Why PlayStation Experience was technical mess for Sony both on stage in terms of presentation and off stage in how PS4 and PSN function.

This show left a bad impression on many. Hopefully Sony's E3 is good

LordMaim3095d ago

A lot of people also thought this show was really good, but they tend not to make opinion articles. Slamming something is always better for clicks.

dirkdady3095d ago (Edited 3095d ago )

Technical mess? Lol ... That's a new one. What next?

I love the posts that leads with troll comment.
Hey sammarshall, I heard Microsoft shot their full load going as far as showing concept CGI videos of games like Recore at E3 that were no near ready and have nothing in the pipes until 2017. Kinda like what they did with phantom dust before quietly scrapping the game. This really seemed to have left a bad impression on many.

See what I did there?

sammarshall1023094d ago

Recore is a 2016 release along with Quantum Break, Crackdown 3, Gears of War 4, and Sea of Thieves

Phantom Dust wasn't confirmed to be a 2016 game and Phantom Dust isn't even scrapped, Phil Spencer confirmed on Twitter yesterday that it is still in development

dirkdady3094d ago

Lol clearly you missed my point.

Wallstreet373095d ago

Bad impression on what many? The click bait writers trying desperately to find news worthy stories or the fanboys on the opposition trying to fuel their sick weird crusade because their system of choice just isnt cutting it?

Seriously there are threads of ppl that actually attended that loved it. People that tried VR are overly positive about games like Rigs and other VR games even saying they've had better experiences then when they tried Oculus. We got Ni Nu Kuni 2 which was a godsend for many and although it probably wont be exclusive it doesn't matter we still got info on a great game. Street Fighter 5 info, House Marque game was on the floor and was well received, MLB 16 and other games.

Imo It was better than the competitions showcase offerings and i cant wait for 2016......

People before this show was planned already stated that VR was tough to show to the masses without experiencing it and sadly Sony didnt seem to pull it off in the presentation but they definitely pulled it off when ppl got hands on with all the VR games that ppl have been positively previewing and gushing about.

VsAssassin3095d ago

Ni No Kuni 2 is exclusive. It was stated before the trailer rolled.

Wallstreet373094d ago (Edited 3094d ago )

Vassassin...

I hear what your saying but i remember them stating it as a "console debut" and that does not mean exclusive.

I may be wrong, if so thank you for shedding light on that situation.

Just looked it up and they wording the used, i was right. That wording can mean alot of things including that it is only a timed exclusive....

SRN_Games3094d ago

I think you miss the point of the article a bit. The idea is that if Sony wants to be a leading platform, they need to step up their game and how they present material. None of this 'bashing' Sony and instead designed to start a conversation on how they can better PS4 and the experience around it.

Wallstreet373094d ago

SRN....

I understand exactly what the article is referencing and as other showcases have shown the big three all have room for improvement in terms of presentation. They all have had good presentations and straight awful.

The focus on much of ppls criticism with Sony's presentation was on the VR aspect which fits into my narrative and what i was conveying. I think last psx was great, Sonys E3 was awesome and this presentation was good imo. What they floundered on was the VR presentation but that was "expected" because prior to this presentation almost everyone spoke about how it is very hard to nearly impossible to really convey VR awesomeness to masses as they have to really try it. Sony didn't convey their VR message the way they wanted to, not due to lack of preparation but just because it is a hard thing to convey and anyone would have had problems.

SRN_Games3094d ago

VR is most certainly hard to show off. But in this case, it wasn't that they had difficulty showing off the tech, but that something clearly failed in the demo. Be it the Move controller, the game etc. Which is ok. Tech fails, it's a simple fact. But that they didn't have a backup to go to is my problem with it. For me, none of my issues were with the content of PSX. That's a completely different article and very subjective depending on a persons taste. However, how something is conveyed to an audience is something Sony can/should do a much better job at.

rainslacker3094d ago (Edited 3094d ago )

I liked the games shown because the games shown were more the kind of things I like. I like the AAA, but they get enough attention. while games I mostly like may just get one game at the show if we're lucky.

That being said, the show itself was rather dull just in how it was paced. What was shown was fine for the most part, with the typical one or two games I really wish they'd move on from(happens every conference usually involving COD or MW), and a VR demo which I feel failed to actually show what they wanted to show from an perspective of experience.

The technical glitches are too common nowadays to even write about though, as they happen at every conference, but I'd prefer a technical glitch to a recording of a game.

I guess I'm just not the kind of person who goes around complaining if a show doesn't show much that interests me, so long as what they show is games, or mostly game related.

Yeah i seen that on Gaf they seemed to have a blast plus all the other positive VR previews weve had the last year. Rigs seems to be the system seller by the way and seems like GG did an awesome job with it.

Realms3094d ago

How dare Sony announce more games and updates on exciting upcoming releases. Terrible news all-around more games that appeal to different demographics it's a travesty. Sony must be stopped from their world wide plans of domination.LOL

2pacalypsenow3096d ago

My only complaint was the VR demo lines were really long

SRN_Games3096d ago

Yea, the piece is really more about PlayStation infrastructure and presentation skills and less about what they really showed off at PSX.

Jalva3095d ago

All that conference did was convince me that VR is just another gimmick like motion controls.

himdeel3095d ago

I disagree. It truly illustrated the impossible task of demonstrating VR (an individual experience) to the masses on a conference stage. Watching people in VR is awkward.

Rimeskeem3095d ago

The crowd was actually really enjoying the VR demo on stage like the one where the guys controllers wouldnt work. At least from my point of view people were laughing and enjoying it.

Jalva3095d ago

Just because they were laughing doesn't mean they were enjoying it.

DigitalRaptor3095d ago (Edited 3095d ago )

Yep. Agreed here.

Nothing wrong with the content... AT ALL. It was no different to PSX last year in terms of games focus, and people had nowhere near the complaints last year.

The flow definitely needed work. The on-stage VR demo was awkward as heck. The show ended abruptly with a third-party MOBA (which does look fantastic), but I was expecting more of a showstopper demo/trailer. The flow could have been better and if FF7 Remake or Ni No Kuni II at the end would have been better.

Rimeskeem3095d ago

yah, Sony has never been the best at fluidity in their conferences. This one was particularly bad, nothing was wrong with the content, just the way it was presented.

DerekFlint0073095d ago (Edited 3095d ago )

I wholeheartedly agree, the content was fine as you say, and the way the conference was presented was unfortunately botched in my opinion.

Sony, if recall had another dreadfully presented show not that long ago, it may have been in Japan approximately a year or so back and rather than show the games onscreen, the director kept constantly cutting away to non-descript audience reaction shots.

This conference was Sony's chance to showcase their wares to a huge Christmas buying public worldwide and i don't buy into the excuses made after the show that we should have tempered our expectations and that it was primarily an indie focused affair, they tell us this after the fact.

I don't necessarily feel that they needed to show us new content, but rather as they have a year to prepare for this show, concentrate and focus on better editing, presentation, running order/time and be more selective in showing off the games in a more positive light, in order to garner excitement. If there is any possibility for technical glitches and errors then ditch it and cut it from the run time and perhaps replace it with a vt clip.

It's genuinely surprising that given Sony's background in Film and TV that they can't bring in a better production crew to enhance the production and presentation values.

Elda3095d ago (Edited 3095d ago )

Technical mess or not,Sony still showed some great exclusives/games for anyone that owns Playstaion.

Jalva3095d ago (Edited 3095d ago )

None of which were new.

@MasterCornholio

Ni No Kuni isn't an exclusive, and I never said there was anything wrong with showing already announced games, just as long as they balance it out with some new announcements, also nobody cares about indies, just gonna be blunt this time.

MasterCornholio3095d ago (Edited 3095d ago )

Right so Ni No Kuni 2 wasnt new.

http://static.trustedreview...

https://encrypted-tbn3.gsta...

And whats wrong with showing already announced stuff at a conference?

If Microsoft and Nintendo are allowed to do it then Sony should as well.

Also now that i think about it plenty of new games were announced at that conference. Now they might not have been giant AAA games based off established franchises but they were still new games.

Like 100Ft Robot Golf for example. Now thats something that i really want to play.

https://farm1.staticflickr....

@Jalva

"and I never said there was anything wrong with showing already announced games"

But then you said this "None of which were new." which is basically you criticizing Sonys conference for not announcing new games at it when they actually did.

"Ni No Kuni isn't an exclusive"

And when were the other platforms confirmned?

Who cares if its exclusive or not thats one more game that PS4 owners get to play.

"also nobody cares about indies, just gonna be blunt this time."

And im going to be blunt this time with you. People do care about Indies. Because if they didn't The Witcher 3 wouldn't have won GOTY. Also ORI won some prizes as well. Not to mention tons of people had fun with Rocket League.

UserNameIsNotTaken3095d ago

Yeah cause indies and psvr games dont count, right?

Jalva3095d ago (Edited 3095d ago )

@UserNameIsNotTaken

As far as 99% of gamers are concerned, no... they don't.

People paid $400 for a PS4 to play big budget AAA games and exclusives, not these pseudo-artistic hipster college projects.

IIFloodyII3094d ago

Ni No Kuni 2 might go to NX at some point, but until then it's a PS4 exclusive. It probably won't go to PC or Xbox, none of Level 5's 50+ games have.

guyman3094d ago (Edited 3094d ago )

No one cares about indies? so no one cares about no man's sky? Journey? rocket league? ori and the blind forest? Rime? WIld? the 100's of popular indie games available through steam? etc, etc.

Just because Ni no Kuni is making a console debut, doesnt mean it's going to platforms outside of the ps3/vita/ps4 and why should it? no other platform received the first game. But hey, you trolls will stubbornly keep trolling away, it's like talking to a brick wall.

rainslacker3094d ago (Edited 3094d ago )

New for you must mean the first day of pre-production. That would be a concept document in the following format

Title (working title)

-insert game concept template here-

Hardly compelling trailer material.

Also, 99% of statistics are made up, and the other 1% is just bullsh*t.

@Guyman

Gears of War(except the new one), Sunset Overdrive, Ratchet & Clank(except some developed by Sony), Titanfall, and many more are also all indie games.:)

For the first time in a long time I have a hard time feeling excited for these events. Maybe it's because of all these massive lay offs and closures there hasn't exactly been good news since the start of the year.

Maybe come next week I'll get a little more excited but I dunno I just can't get too excited right now

thorstein1d 17h ago

Maybe it will be an indie showcase.

Cacabunga1d 11h ago

Cancelling e3 and introducing some ridiculous events..
Times have changed.. to the worse

Lightning771d 10h ago (Edited 1d 10h ago )

Back then it was very exciting, great looking trailers, on stage live gameplay where yes things can and have went wrong but that's how we knew it was a real games being played instead of curated footage extra doctored up that didn't even represent the actual game half the time. Games would release 6 months to a year max not 3 years later.

I miss past E3's even the goofiness like Giant enemy crab or Riiiidge Raceeer. Xbox and Kinect glitching Nintendo's craziness. Again it was real, these days there so protective, clean, doctored sets, where nothing can absolutely go wrong. Too strict and professional with heavy PR babble with buzzwords that mean nothing. Being professional is not bad but when it's fake and corporate heavy where you're made to buy into the words rather than the game, that's how you know it's not real.

Now SFG is just sizzle reeling all the games at once. Plus past SGF events haven't been that great either. Maybe that's not Geoffs fault but the pubs and devs are simply never ready to show anything and have to wait. This gen we've been waiting and waiting for these games.

Plus lay offs as I Mentioned. I dunno Geoff needs to do what made E3 great back then, get funding support and do live stage gameplay he has the support and so why not? Pubs and devs need to do their own thing at the event again. No more doctored bull crap with PR diarrhea trying to sell the game show us with a controller in your hand instead of making empty promises.

Rant over.

Cacabunga1d 10h ago (Edited 1d 10h ago )

Lightning

I will never forget the pre-e3 one year where Kojima was teasing MGS Rising.. and Peace Walker.

Such an incredible period where studios enjoyed what they were doing and teasing their work weeks before the event.

Nowadays is half baked games, cross gen titles, useless mid gen upgrades. There is no hype anymore.
Last great show I remember is the PS EXPERIENCE maybe 3 or 4 years ago in December

gleepot1d 9h ago

Maybe it's because Keighley sucks and never puts on good showcases.

Lightning771d 8h ago

They aren't geoffs games he's not makin it. Though you're half right, he has the stage and events and controls the pace, how the games are shown and presented. If I was him I would have devs have real gameplay with a stage like how E3 used to be.

No more of this curated pre done footage that we've had in the past 4 years.

Actually before that they've been doing that format for awhile. Cyber Punk being the biggest culprit of that format because you can easily deceive and lie to ppl.

Yeah Geoff is half to blame

isarai1d 13h ago

Is it just me or is there little to no buzz or marketing leading up to this compared to previous SGF?

monkey6021d 9h ago

Because they've been consistently boring for the last couple of years. Hard to get worked up for it now

bRuud831d 11h ago

Where is Sony? Still no news about the next Playstation showcase.

1d 11h ago
Lightning771d 8h ago

Hopefully early next week at this point they are signed to SGF so they'll be there.

I also said in another post it's rumored to be a State Of Play now. The only AAA's I can see being announced now is Ghost 2 and Bends New game.

I can't see Santa Monica's New IP or ND New IP being announced. I can see GG being there announcing leggo Horizon, Zero Dawn remake or remaster, maybe the LS horizon game.

Skuletor1d 8h ago

After the way they rudely hurried people off the stage at The Game Awards, I won't bother watching any of the streams for this. I'll just checkout out a few game trailers on Youtube after they're uploaded there.
