"The way we harnessed the power of the PlayStation 4 was to maintain the graphic quality of characters like Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith in the movie called Advent Children in our game, and this was the starting point."

The day has finally come where we actually get visuals that is on par with CGI movies. I cant wait for this beauty!

Aloy-Boyfriend3092d ago

Ratchet Clank too. Now that looks like a pixar movie. PS4 is indeed capable to delivering

DarkOcelet3092d ago

Its kind of crazy how fast the gaming industry evolved through out the years.

I remember having my jaw dropped when i first played games like MGS1 or Gran Turismo and thought they look so damn real. Oh how the time flies so fast.

Ezz_Snake3092d ago

me too cant wait, but i hope for 2016 release pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase

miyamoto3091d ago (Edited 3091d ago )

Yet still, many gamers here on N4G hate on improved graphics and the progress over gameplay just to defend their less powerful consoles like the Wii U and Xbox One.

Why can't they just give credit to where it is due?

I am sure every decent developers nail the gameplay first as priority over great graphics. But when they do great graphics on top of solid gameplay that is a very commendable thing.

OT

I can easily make a pass on FFXV after seeing how good FFVIIR is.
I play FF for epic fantastic storytelling not jpop emo boy bands.

SegaSaturn6693091d ago

So one thing I gleaned from this: definitely not on Xbone.

So it's exclusive?

DarkOcelet3092d ago

Square aint playing around anymore.

The kings of JRPG are coming back and they are bringing their new toys with them.

TheOneWhoIsTornApart3092d ago

What do you mean in one year?. Where did you hear they are coming out the same year?.

d_g3092d ago (Edited 3092d ago )

@TheOneWhoIs oh sorry about that

i thought VII Remake release date was in 2016

but Final Fantasy XV is coming in 2016 though http://www.polygon.com/2015...

TheOneWhoIsTornApart3092d ago

I know that XV comes out in 2016 but I'm asking where you got the info that FFVII Remake is coming out that year as well?.

Bahamut3092d ago

Yeah, and they're essentially the exact same game. You're going to be so happy.

Eamon3092d ago

There's no release window for FF7R announced yet.

But it seems likely to come out in 2017. After all, that will be the 20th anniversary of the original PS1 game.

Seeing the gameplay footage (and likely that it's being developed on Unreal Engine 4), it seems development of FF7 Remake is going a lot more smoothly and quickly than FF15. Since actual production began in December 2014, if it comes out in 2017, it will have been in production for 3 years.

The pre-production for this must have taken ages. The sheer scale of FF7 probably had at least 1 year of pre-production. I'm still amazed at how none of this got leaked before last summer's E3.

Vhampir3092d ago

As long as they don't pull an Ubisoft.

I just can't generate any hype for FFXV, it looks so...boring. The Demo didn't help either.

Eiyuuou3092d ago

@Bahamut

Would you kindly take that nonsense somewhere else please?

Adrian_v013092d ago

@Bahamut

Final Fantasy XV action rpg + FF7RE possibly action rpg = essentially the same game

Every other FF that's turn based=omfg it's awesome
????

Where's the logic?

In Tte video he says it's only achievable on PS4, which is false, but dang am I excited for this game, I would love if they remade FF8 as well. FFu and FF8 are 2 of my favorites, top 10 all timers.

MRMagoo1233091d ago

After what they seem to have done to the combat in ff7 they can keep the hell away from ff8 and not ruin that too.

Lightning Mr Bubbles3092d ago

My Jaw just dropped when I saw the trailer. I know all the talk is on the gameplay and fans will have mixed feelings, I myself don't have a problem with it, I think they can make it work, it looks like they're going all out with it, graphics look amazing, character models and locations all look perfect, it does look like it captures the atmosphere of Final Fantasy VII which isn't easy to do since the original was just like blocky pixels on the screen compared to this. We'll see how the gameplay turns out but it looks too damn good to not be impressed.

DarkOcelet3092d ago

Yeah, it does look so damn good.

Off topic here but i hope that Resident Evil 2 Remake make an awesome transition like this one. I want them to capture the atmosphere like this one did here.

MehmetAlperTR3091d ago

Graphics are not everything.. there are music, gameplay, storyline which FF7 was perfect in all of them.. and they changed the gameplay and i really didnt like it..

DarkOcelet3091d ago

Give it a chance, maybe you will like it. This looks amazing and i have great faith that Nomura can do wonders here.

BlackWolf123091d ago

He makes a good point at the start of the video.

FF7 was actually a huge departure from the previous 6 games when it was released.

I bet everyone was really concerned about that at the time, but it won them all over with the fact that it turned out to be an amazing game anyway.

So in other words people, don't judge a book by it's cover, wait till the game comes out before you condemn it.

FallenAngel19843092d ago

This is a game that really showcases the power of the PS4, and the battle system looks great

Bahamut3092d ago

The graphics do look great, the combat looks like dogshit though.

eyeDEVOUR3092d ago

yup.. cant believe its not turn-based. when square listens to its fans it does it halfassed

Summons753092d ago

Because you've played it and know how well it blends with the game...oh wait you saw maybe 30 seconds.

FF7 remake proves how big entitled brats gamers can be. Whine and beg for years after being told no over and over again and when they finally cave you b***h and cry like an ungrateful brat.

Bahamut3092d ago (Edited 3092d ago )

@Summons75

Nobody's crying, the combat just looks bad and lazy is all. No big deal, hey maybe I'll rent it when it releases. I'm sure the cutscenes will be pretty good.

Renting would be ideal because the game probably won't be over 20 hours or so. I mean look at it, you think they're going to maintain that look through the entire story of Final Fantasy VII? The majority is going to be edited out.

MeteorPanda3092d ago (Edited 3092d ago )

it's essentially kingdom hearts, thats not a bad combat system at all, and placeholders were everywhere with the ui and moves from dissida...calm down

and really? 20 hours? There are already games you can put more then 20 hours in and not be done on the ps4/xbone.. so your just talking about what you don't understand like it's fact. well done

nix3092d ago

Bahamut, oh please.. You've been crying in every article since you saw the footage. You've been doing nothing but bitching.

I don't like turn based battles, so when i saw the gameplay, i was little worried that it's turn based. It had menu next to it. If the game has turn base battles, I'll skip it. I've tried getting into turn base system but just can't.

I really hope they offer two types of battling options. Classic and New. Both camps will be happy then.

rezzah3092d ago

The combat looks great.

While turn base is more tactical, freedom to move and attack is more immersible. My preference aligns with immersion.

Bahamut3092d ago

@Nix

Crying? Really? Me saying things that you disagree with is crying all of a sudden? I'm expressing my opinion, if you don't like it, scroll on down.

Sunny_D3092d ago

If you look closely at the video, you can see there's still an ATB meter in the game. I get the feeling, that it will still have the same system, but it will be more organic. Maybe, they will give different options to battle.

Gamer4life133091d ago

Honesty it looks amazing. It's like FF crisis core and lighting returns had a baby together with the combat. The graphics world and combat are simply stunning and look great for an early build of the game.

BlackWolf123091d ago

You seen literally about 15 seconds of the combat.

From what I can see, most of the original combat looks intact.

HP, MP, Limit breaks are all there.

Then there is that fourth bar, the main one. It seemed to be steadily increasing over time, and portions of it were depleted when the character performed an action. So there is an element of timing and strategy to it.

FallenAngel19843092d ago

The combat looks incredible, it's like a great evolution of FFVII: Crisis Core's battle system.

Bahamut3092d ago

You just made me puke a little.

Ricegum3092d ago (Edited 3092d ago )

My god Bahamut. We get it, for the millionth time, you don't like the combat in the game.

Please go away now, it's getting boring.

Bahamut3092d ago

@Unreal01

I'm allowed to express my opinion as much as everyone else. Soooo, no, I'm not going anywhere.

BlackWolf123091d ago

Sure Bahamut, you can keep expressing that opinion.

But the majority of people are excited for FF7:R, including it's new battle system.

So you're the minority, and one thing i know about N4G, is that those in the minority who become a nuisance, tend to get de-bubbled into silence eventually.

So risk your bubbles at your own leisure.

Good luck with that SE

Hope it turns out good. Looking good so far at least.

@ Kalkano and those, it was oviously gonna be a action based. But eh, its unfortunate we can't both get what we want.

Number-Nine3092d ago

At least the original will always be a classic

N83092d ago

That's a good way of thinking about it. I don't like turn based so this is a big plus for me

warriors_133092d ago

they should've definitely left the battle system as turn based considering that was how the original was and this remake is supposed to be made for those fans.

on top of that, it would've been better to have some variation in gameplay as this looks identical to the ff15 system.

Bahamut3092d ago

Well, look at it from Square's perspective. If they kept the combat the same, they would bring in the same fans as before. But if they strip it of anything special, and make it "action", they will draw in allll of that "CASUALS" money. Mmmmm, much more appealing.

Lennoxb633092d ago

You're still going to buy it.

Lennoxb633092d ago

This way they can get get both new FF fans and old. New fans will be intrigued by the real time combat, and the old fans are going to buy it anyway. Regardless of all the talks of boycotting the game.

Bahamut3092d ago (Edited 3092d ago )

They've alienated most of the FFVII fanbase with this footage. Just check any website that isn't N4G. So yes, the casuals will flock to it.

BlackWolf123091d ago

There is no remake in the history of gaming that is tailored specifically to the original fans.

This FF7 remake is for old fans, but is also to gain new ones.

There are other things to consider as well. Such as the new technology, new graphics etc

The way it was handled was so dumb. One shots in melee...your teammates are to ostupid to get away from its attack. So you most often end up alone in a certain fight.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 Expected to Release Around 2027, Says Square Enix

It's fairly common knowledge that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth enjoyed a relatively smooth development cycle, owing to the fact that Final Fantasy 7 Remake's team was largely kept intact, and the first game had obviously laid the foundations in terms of visuals and gameplay systems. It took Square Enix around three years to craft Rebirth, and it expects the same kind of timeline when it comes to the third (and final) title in the trilogy.

lucian22941d ago

Soooo long. Sigh lmao gonna be a long long wait.

Cacabunga41d ago

Yes but better they take their time with such game. A good argument to get PS5 Pro

Sonic188141d ago

The PS6 might be out by then

Cacabunga41d ago (Edited 41d ago )

In 2,5 years? No way .. Pro will be around for at least 2 years..

RaidenBlack41d ago

Might be an unpopular opinion here, but I wish the remake was a 2-parter not a 3-parter.
Die-hard fans will disagree and I get it but ... I think they're stretching the project abit too much imho.

lucian22941d ago

considering how much story is in the original, i think it's fine. Everything is very well elaborated and the connection to those characters are much greater thanks to it. Like, i like seeing tifa and aerith as best friends for example. the fact the first 2 games in this trilogy basically only covered the first disc of the original is kinda crazy tho lol

Becuzisaid41d ago

@lucian That first disc was a whopper though. I don't remember the second being as long, and the third is basically just the final dungeon.

I'm glad they did 3 games. The first 2 have been absolutely phenomenal. Looking forward to the Weapons (the real ones) waking up and attacking, the underwater exploration (they set that up pretty good with the lore of Under Junon), and finally Cloud's big reveal. It'll be real interesting to see how they handle the repercussions of Cloud's behavior from Rebirth and what he's going to do in Part 3. Like the party should realistically just abandon him for being such an a-hole, and after what he did to a Tifa. They really played up the whole Sephiroth mind control thing in Rebirth. They really need to nail the emotional payoff to that. Hope it's not just swept under the rug by the party and just move on post Lifestream.

-Foxtrot41d ago

Also 3 games and then a Crisis core remaster

Then god knows what else

It’s overkill

I’d under the trilogy if they lived up to their excuse about it being about expanding the lore. Like they said the first game would heavily expand the lore of Midgar through side missions but the side missions didn’t do that at all, they were all pretty generic. Felt like a bad excuse to justify 3 games.

-Foxtrot41d ago

Least we have a potential date

Although now I’m just thinking

“Damn 3-4 years to see if we’ll ever get a FFVIII remake next”

VersusDMC41d ago

Apparently there is a IX remake getting made. You need that to come out and be successful before a VIII remake is even possibly green lit.

But if you're thinking the FF7REMAKE team is making a FFVIII remake after part 3...that is not happening. They are definitely making a new FF after.

-Foxtrot40d ago

Well apparently IX is coming first because the VIII team are working on the VII remakes

So if they get finished then hopefully they will work on VIII next

You say it won’t but I’m hoping they will…just something less ambitious

TheEroica40d ago

Yikes.... Sales are already lower than expected for the sequel. Third game is gonna be lower....

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 40d ago
GoodGuy0941d ago (Edited 41d ago )

I really think it should've been just one game or two at most, kept to the simple turn based combat, and no crazy changes to the story. But it's whatever. I liked rebirth but man was it bloated with so much unnecessary and repetitive stuff. Square is really betting their money on the remakes. I do admit the remakes have been the only mainline ff games Ive actually quite liked since probably 10 lol.

Lexreborn241d ago

I don’t feel like it’s bloated, it’s more or less all the same content that was in the original for mini games but they expanded everyone’s narrative better.

I am glad they expanded even on the characters that came in later games that wasn’t in the original. It’s a weird position we keep putting devs in when one moment we say give us a complete game with tons of content. They deliver said content and then we treat it like it’s overwhelming or to much.

Crazy part is you could just focus on the story and do none of the “bloat”. Gamers really seem to never be happy when you look online forums

rambot8940d ago

Wouldn’t make sense financially. 1 game would involve a mammoth amount of development time and a gamble to say the least. Making one part of the game and seeing if it makes $$$ gives reason to justify making a part 2 and 3 and make more money too.

OtterX41d ago

That's pretty crazy if you think about the 2005 PS3 tech demo that started this all! I'm not sure if they ever intended to remake the game at that time, but the fan outcry for it was so incredible that it eventually became a reality! Now imagine all of the fans who have died waiting for this. :\

GamerRN40d ago

That's how you turn an 80$ game into a $240 game

jambola40d ago (Edited 40d ago )

Which game is 240?
You must've bought from a bad scalper because I got both games for normal price each

GamerRN40d ago

How much did each part cost?

Lionsguard41d ago

I mean not too surprised, they already have most of all the assets already made. I just hope it's UE5 and they crank it to 11 and finish strong. I also hope they go back and upgrade Remake and Rebirth to UE5 too. BUY THE DAMN GAME PEOPLE!!

franwex41d ago (Edited 41d ago )

For all the complaints about GAAS and same thing getting released every year. It’s almost dumb that gamers here don’t support a game like Rebirth.

MrNinosan41d ago

Rebirth is selling great and is supported. Don't worry.

MrNinosan41d ago

It won't be UE5.
If that wad the case, we wouldn't play it in 3 years.

Becuzisaid41d ago

And it would likely play like trash compared to the first 2, at least on PS5.

Original Final Fantasy 7 - Is it Worth Playing in 2024?

Final Fantasy 7 has come back under the spotlight thanks to the release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, but is it worth replaying the original?

ravens5245d ago

Got to Zacks part in 7 Rebirth. Said f it. Finishing my game in 7 og. Just got to part 2 yesterday. I also got Crisis Core... So it'll be a while before I'm back to Rebirth. I just keep thinking about it too smh, want to get back to playing it. Not till I know Zacks story though. I beat 7 og sooooooo long ago, it's crazy going through it again and remembering things.

MrNinosan45d ago (Edited 45d ago )

Got to Zacks part in Rebirth?
You mean you started the game and turned it off?
The game starts with Zack...

ravens5245d ago

... Really 🤓 lol. His second part, I've played for 80hrs lmao. <---- PS5 Run time, probably not all game time. You guys know how it goes.

VIK212144d ago (Edited 44d ago )

Did you not ever play the OG FF7? After you recruit Vincent, later in the game, disc 3, return to that basement and look at the pod, there's a whole Zack story that'll trigger as a memory.... it's well hidden in the game and a lot of things regarding Zack are cleared up. FF7 Crisis Core is basically an extend feature of that hidden flashback... It took me years to discover it back then lol

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

MrNinosan44d ago

@ravens52
80 hours in Rebirth by doing everything, and you should've reached Zacks story about 5 times 🤣

ravens5244d ago

Ye I kno that's y I said not all gameplay time. But also I am very anal when it comes to exploring.

Not to mention fighting Titan at his full strength. Hours spent trying still haven't succeeded. Found all 3 ruins but I'ma masochist when it comes to games.

Barlos45d ago

Very much so. Graphically it's dated but the story and the gameplay haven't aged a day. It's still one of my all time favourite RPGs and for me is better than Remake in some ways.

Barlos45d ago (Edited 45d ago )

It always takes me back to Christmas 1997, I got it as a gift and I was blown away when I played it. I couldn't believe games could look that good. The combination of pre rendered backgrounds and FMV really made it stand out. It definitely still has a certain charm that modern games can't replicate.

I can't imagine people will still be talking about Remake and Rebirth in 27 years.

Tapani44d ago

Fully agreed. To me the atmosphere, pacing, gameplay and music are all better than in the remake.

Rebel_Scum45d ago

Yes, play this, skip remake, start rebirth for new players.

I_am_Batman45d ago

Skip Remake? That's terrible advice.

leahcim45d ago
