Ubisoft is facing backlash over the release Rainbow Six Siege without offline access to PvE mode Terrorist Hunt, after appearing to previously state on multiple occasions that it would be available to players without an internet connection.

Realistically, why would anyone think that you'd need to be online to play by yourself? It's absurd.

Muzikguy3087d ago

I don't understand why these companies keep thinking it's ok to do this stuff. They keep saying "it's the future" and whatnot, but whose? It's not my future. Companies keep pushing these ideas to benefit themselves. Online only, especially for single player, is most definitely NOT the future

I really hope people speak with their wallets. I would've thought Ubisoft got the message from things like Watch Dogs and the Crew.

Bansai3087d ago

Well it depends, if you want to play with yourself and watch some good porn while you're at it, then you need to be onli... oh wait, we're talkin' about a video-game, then yeah, I totally agree. It's a mystery why's that even a thing, similarly with latest Need for speed games.

Captain_TomAN943087d ago

Look at Amazon and similar companies - they build a business model around putting their costumers first and they made fistfuls of cash!

That's all you have to do!

rainslacker3087d ago

We all know it's because some lame feature exists which the publisher deems absolutely necessary to the experience. Something like leaader board or time trials integrated seamlessly into the game play.

Companies really do think they are clever with this kind of this stealth connection requirement.

It's always something, and the fact that game design is now created around making that connection in some way is rather sad.

I believe if a game is good, people will be more inclined to go online for some of those features. I did for DriveClub or Mass Effect for instance. Otherwise, they may as well cater to those who don't want online, give those who want MP the option, and provide both with content they can enjoy. Their sales will benefit, and they won't have to bother with PR'ing their way out of it. The need to force people into online for some reason just shows lack of faith in their product IMO, and in today's environment, does nothing to prevent second hand sales, so why bother pissing people off?

rezzah3087d ago

They do it for us to not buy their product.

Their logic.

Dee_913086d ago (Edited 3086d ago )

I downloaded the crew beta, I was only able to play it twice due to my internet outage. I downloaded NFS beta, only played it for a few hours before I got "cannot connect to EA servers".

online only is counter productive and I wont be buying any game with this "feature".

ThanatosDMC3086d ago

Probably because of Uplay. I thought it couldnt get worse on Steam but it did.

IAmTheBest353086d ago

i dont buy these shitty online only games. i dont understand why anybody else would unless theyre a casual gamer and dont know shit about video games.

Palitera3085d ago (Edited 3085d ago )

If you think buying an online-only tactical multiplayer shooter is proof of being casual/not knowing about games (like Driveclub, The Division, Titanfall, Diablo 3 etc), yeah, we know you don't understand a lot of stuff. But sh-sh, don't get so angry. Adults and intelligent people are here to explain it to you.

In this case, it is because they think they will like the game. Mindblowing, huh?

-

PS: eventually companies will realize the sales lost. And they do it to prevent piracy too, hurting the paying consumer as usual.

Muzikguy3085d ago (Edited 3085d ago )

If you haven't noticed all those games you listed had their own problems. Diablo3 they had to completely revamp, Driveclub had plenty of issues (still could play offline though so bad example on your part), the Division is going to have a big struggle to overcome when it gets released, and Titanfall has been criticized for many things and hasn't faired as well as planned either. That's all right you don't want to question these things but I will. Adults and intelligent people are here to explain it to you.

It's not just Ubisoft doing this sort of thing. It doesn't make it right either. These guys want to try and put expirations on games so we have to go out and buy more. Maybe you want to be told how you can play your games and when your "time is up" for a game you purchased. As for me, when that day comes, they can keep their games as I won't be buying anything

Palitera3078d ago

Don't be so mad. My comment was a reply to the post above mine. Interpretation 101, kiddo.

Its about control. You see when, not if, they eventually shut down the server your game even if physical is useless. It is a way to build in an expiration date that they determine.

NeckBeardBSMTDweller3086d ago

Who the hell isn't "online", that can afford a $60 game? I cant tell you the last time I didn't have Internet. Maybe like 1999.

TheCommentator3086d ago

I guess you forgot how people reacted to an always connected XB1?

BuildTheWall3086d ago

We don't all have access to high speed internet.

fattyuk3086d ago

"Who the hell isn't "online", that can afford a $60 game? I cant tell you the last time I didn't have Internet. Maybe like 1999."

Tsar4ever013086d ago

Me personally, I think this "always connected" stuff really has something to do with developer's and publishers keeping control, like DRM, making sure no pirates playing stolen games on their servers and stuff.

Roccetarius3087d ago

Just another good reason to not support them. Ubisoft likes to test the limits of what players accept.

loopygames3087d ago

I had the game pre-ordered because I have been looking forward to a rainbow six game since vegas 2. After looking at all the games that came out that I need to finish. I cancelled the preorder mainly because I'm not paying $60 to essentially rent the game for however long Ubisoft decides to keep the servers up. The response towards this game appears to be pretty negative that the online community will probably be dead in a few months.

NeckBeardBSMTDweller3086d ago

Good thing I got the game free with my 980 TI. I love it so far, its beautiful.I could give a F*** about the online situation. Just go enjoy the game.

Perjoss3087d ago (Edited 3087d ago )

Its all part of the plan, they experiment to see what they can get away with and then try to force feed you garbage.

alfcrippinjr3087d ago

correct on the experiment

if people buy this shit then they say in the next meeting

well we sold over 20million copies

so we never do anymore story modes or campaign
and release a game with online play only
but still charge the same price as a full game.

if people stop buying this shit then the companys will stop doing this type of bullshit

fattyuk3086d ago

fully agree with you, and please dont knock me for this,

this is where the likes of cs:go really stands out for a good busniess model

games $10

skins are endless and dont change any gameplay what so ever

lol and cs as a franchise is going strong for 10+ years

these quick $60 fads are tiring and boring, evolve anyone? is destiny anything special? blops 3 with no main campaing

its a mess!!

and im sorry ill get acused of a pc elitist (who genuinly has only had a steam account for 13months) after 20+ years of console gaming

Muzikguy3087d ago

They sure do. I was so excited when I heard about this game a few years back but there's no way I'm going to get it now. Watch Dogs is the only Ubisoft game I have for the PS4(my mistake). Seems Ubisoft fell off their rocker this generation

Chinkyinc183087d ago (Edited 3087d ago )

Gotta love devs...how they thought they could pull this off after the whole Assassin's Creed II SP online-only debacle. Why include a Lone Wolf mode for it if it wasn't going to be offline capable? Also, every R6 game with terrorist hunt has always had offline capabilities.

Pintheshadows3087d ago

Seriously, is this not out today? Where are all the reviews at?

I have a feeling we may be looking at an absolute dog of a game here.

Ravenor3087d ago

The framerate and responsiveness of the controls on the PS4 Open Beta painted a very negative picture, even if I definitely liked what they were going for with the game.

esemce3086d ago

Yeah on Xbone too, it looked and felt like a 360 launch title, game features poor graphics, low framerate, stiff delayed controls and laggy online.

jmac533087d ago

Mind you I have only played a few matches so far but I have not run into any connectivity issues or lag for that matter. Everything is running smoothly for me but then again the beta ran smoothly for me besides a couple long wait times to get into a match.

Ravenor3087d ago

It was the responsiveness of the controls. It felt like Killzone 2 did, like it was just slow and swimmy.

jmac533087d ago

@Ravenous I agree the default controls are a little to slow even now where it is difficult to react fast to more than one player.

Ubisoft Should Revive The Rainbow Six Siege We're All Longing For

Rainbow Six Siege with night maps, ranked mode shakeup, and a return to pure fun would be exactly what Ubisoft needs to return to this game.

Screw that.

Traditional sequels are a thing of the past, much like Bad Company 3 and another very famous and undelivered third entry that goes without saying

Ubisoft's Recent Antics Have Me Fearful For The Sands of Time Remake

Hanzala from eXputer: "With Ubisoft's practices becoming increasingly anti-consumer lately, the destruction of The Sands of Time Remake looks almost inevitable."

At this point, only dummies have any hope left for Ubi-junk games.
