People Do Care About Dead Or Alive Extreme 3

Pixelgate.co.uk writes:

''Dead Or Alive Extreme 3 has became something of a hot property. It’s an odd concept, a series of games known for one thing, and it’s not the gameplay. Even though this is the third entry, people have suddenly decided it’s a release worth fighting for. Dead Or Alive Extreme 3 is no longer just a video game, it’s a sign of the times''

It's garbage shovelware disguised with boobs.

Should it be banned? No.

But that does not negate the fact that it's is a crappy franchise.

PixelGateUk3101d ago

It's not been banned, I think that's a key point to remember

Articuno763101d ago

Why exactly?

The end result is the same: social influence putting business choices outside of the control of the consumers numbers/wallets.

The only difference is where that social influence is instituted.

rainslacker3101d ago

@Art

At the same time, if this game were going to be wildly successful in the west, it would be coming west regardless of the current "debate" going on in the western markets.

But it's come to a point where the numbers don't justify having to deal with the fallout, and I guess Tecmo believes that their long term gains in avoiding the subject will be better served in future sales from these people they are trying to avoid. it's a strange tact for them, particularly with the DOA series, but it is what it is.

As of now, given how the "debate" is going, it is kind of institutionalized. A Cabal of games media publishers have rendered this narrative of SJW is the right path to follow, shaming anything that goes against it, all while changing those who were calling out this institutionalization as somehow hateful and against SJW so it should be chastised so the heat would be off them.

Other media outlets outside this influence ignore the issue as the extremists on the SJW tend to make anyone who tries to bring order or show some sort of moderate opinion, or worse yet a dissenting one, trouble in every way possible. This of course tends to mostly be contained within social media, but there are many instances where people, even moderate, have lost their jobs or had other bad things happen in their lives.

So what I'm trying to say is that something doesn't have to have an official organization to become institutionalized, and if Tecmo is unwilling to face the wrath of SJW, imagine how other publishers may feel as well. Eventually more and more bow to the social pressure of the vocal minority in an effort to avoid controversy and try to appear PC, and more and more games will be shaped to cater to this crowd, or avoided altogether so as not to upset the status quo of the current media.

This kind of stuff isn't contained to the gaming market, as there are forces out there which influence all sorts of products, sometimes for the better, sometimes not. But in this situation, the influence is having an effect on the consumer, and it's having an effect on creative expression.

It's bad enough when publishers allow these things to happen for the reason of money, and it's just as bad when they allow it to be influenced by factors that come from those that aren't their audience to begin with. We decry daily the number of things that happen in the industry due to monetary reasons on the publishers part...with the media often voicing our opinion on that, yet our media can't bother to express the same concern, which has a similar effect on the end game, when it comes from a vocal minority.

In the end, the absolute only thing that will put this whole debate to rest is if enough publishers bow to this social pressure and make their games in such a way that alienates the current customer base, and do not manage to pick up equal or greater sales from the side that's getting their voices heard now. If and when these people are catered to, and the games flop hard, is when publishers will stop caring, and if they have any balls, they will put the debate to rest by giving the real reason...because there aren't enough on the SJW to be worth catering to. As of now, publishers are skating a fine line in their designs, but games are becoming more homogenized every year, and eventually, people will grow bored and stop caring.

A lot of people say that without "sex appeal" this game wouldn't sell, but I disagree. To be honest, the series is pretty addicting. You get to a point where it becomes a personal goal to unlock all of the extras, and that fuels the fun.

ChrisW3101d ago

Well... Yes... But for many of us here, we would not have put in as much time unlocking things if it weren't for the "sex appeal."

Anthotis3101d ago

I don't play games like that, but i'm opposed to SJW censorship.

Anyone who hates vile SJWs and what they stand for should support the release of this game.

Scatpants3101d ago

Don't worry most SJWs will probably get tired of doing it soon. Being offended about stuff is this year's "going green". They'll move on to another asinine cause soon.

TheCommentator3101d ago

Actually, if you want a visual representation of what SJW's are doing to the world, take a look at Beijing right now. If that city represents our freedoms, then the smog represents all the adverse effects of the stupid SJW rhetoric.

rainslacker3101d ago (Edited 3101d ago )

Not all SJW are bad, and within their ranks, there are those who are moderate in what they want, and what they are asking for. These moderates are not asking for censorship, nor are they even saying others are bad for enjoying these types of games. It's the extremist like Sarkeesian or Alexander and their die hard followers which make up the pains we are going through now, and prevent either side from really having a voice.

Unfortunately, the debate isn't all that interesting in the middle, so it wasn't covered as much when it was going on years before Sarkeesian or Alexander decided to fan the flames. All they've done is bring a level of toxicity to the "debate" which was mostly contained to trolls before them.

Nowadays, it's really hard to express what one may want from the middle of the road SJW(those seeking better representation in games) because if you don't follow the extremist you are shamed just as readily as if you oppose the extremist outright. You simply aren't allowed to be moderate or oppositional without being a bad person.

When the moderate SJW fights just as hard to get rid of their extremist as the gamers have been doing to get rid of them, then maybe the debate can actually become meaningful instead of preachy. Until then, it's either going to come down to money for the publishers, or a huge revolt of gamers...which was kind of shot down last time, although it wasn't really about SJW in general.

Truth be told, I was never against the idea of better representation of different groups in games. I got behind them on that. But I do take issue with the current trends of how that side is going. I also don't believe that GG itself was against SJW ideals at all, and I believe if more SJW actually thought about what GG started out as, they should have no problem with being supportive of it as well. But since some media outlets decided to link the two as opposing forces, people on those groups never really got to the point where they could understand what the core values of each viewpoint were. Maybe it's time for some major publication to actually lay out what the core value of each is, and take the extremist views out of it so people can be informed. They'll get a lot of hate, but at least they'll gain some respect from those who have been trying to say this stuff for over a year now.

Both the GG agenda, and the original SJW agenda were brewing for years before it exploded last year, and unfortunately, I feel the core agenda of both got lost in the sensationalism that followed the "Gamers are dead" article, and GG becoming a thing. Both the core reasons for them existing were both great ideals to strive for IMO, but nowadays, it seems only the extremist on both sides are heard...moreso on the SJW side.

Soz to reply here but I can't reply to the other comment:

"At the same time, if this game were going to be wildly successful in the west, it would be coming west regardless of the current "debate" going on in the western markets

Absolutely. Whilst there's still a wide gulf of profitability between a niche success and a runaway one. Traditionally only the success of the game in question (i.e. is it likely to turn a profit making it worth putting out there) would have mattered.

Now it seems we are seeing devs looking a niche prospect and decided that, on balance, the PR headache isn't worth it.

I'd imagine the same thing won't happen to the core DOA series simply because it sells better overall. But with no western release this does essentially shoot the chances of a PC release in the foot :(

You know how modern art is often made fun of for being so stupid? Like theyll have an old shoe on display and call it daring, deep, and thought provoking? Thats Gone Home in a nutshell, garbage put together by these pretentious and self absorbed hipsters for pretentious self absorbed hipsters.
