American McGee stands up for freedom of speech and artistic freedom once again

Back in April this year American McGee stood up for freedom of speech and artistic freedom in the games industry. Well, just recently McGee did that again when he showed support for Play-Asia and Team Ninja´s "dead or alive xtreme 3" (McGee has been boycotted because of this). So this would be my (Robin Ek, The Gaming Ground) take on the matter.

"I have question for you Alexander. Do you still remember your “‘Gamers’ don’t have to be your audience. ‘Gamers’ are over.” article which you wrote for Gamasutra back in August 2014? Well, I´ve got news for you. Gamers aren´t over (we never were), and SJWs doesn´t have to be the publishers, developers or the retailer’s audience. So here´s a reality check for you Alexander, the SJWs will soon be over. As we (the Gaming community) are fed up with the SJWs, political correctness, censorship, corruption and tabloid gaming sites such as Kotaku and Polygon. Don´t you understand? You cannot win this war, because Gamers refuse to lose. We are programmed to win at all times"

Well put, I will never give in to SJW bullshit! That Leigh Alexander person seem to have a lot of hybris and prejudice against gamers, really disturbing to read the comments comming from her. Just wow, talk about ignorant.

PC culture is a joke. I have no idea where it came from but watching some of it in videos at universities etc makes me embarrassed for the human race.

TGG_overlord3099d ago

You mean the Yale incident right? I think so. I mean, one should be able to backtrack where the PC and SJW culture comes from? (subject zero).

Nodoze3099d ago

I am offended by your comments. I have hired an attorney to seek damages, and to have this sire shut down.

/s.

PC culture is designed to shut down your ability to express your thoughts and to shut down free speech.

The sad thing is that in almost all cases it seems to be working. If the founders of this republic walked around worried about offending people we would not be here.

TGG_overlord3099d ago

Thank you mate =) Yes, she´s false to the bone (just Google her name). She´s a liar, a bully and a corrupt so called "games journalist", and just check out what she has tweeted out in the past (insults, hate and so on). I should also mention that she loves to throw shit at people (developers and gamers most of the time), but when she gets called out on her bs.

She just run away and hides...

I likes how play-Asia completely triggered SJW's by simply calling them SJW and it finally seems that the tide is slowly turning. and hopefully these parasite game bloggers that thought insulting the consumers was a good idea end up working at Wal-mart, at least that way they can actually contribute to society.

TGG_overlord3099d ago

Correct, I saw the whole thing explode live on Twitter. Word on that, and I think that your very close to the truth. Because not so long ago Alexander begged people to give her at least one dollar per person.

gamer78043099d ago

i hope the tide turns, tecmo koi could be a huge part in this by saying they were wrong and releasing it in the west. Then hopefully other outlets will follow suit and allow creative freedom once again.

TGG_overlord3099d ago

So do I mate, because enough is enough. Exactly, I could probably not make the game I wanted with today's SJW standards and rules (I want to work on the Blood remake project).

This is one time where I am really hoping this is some sort of marketing ploy. In the course of one day, they shone heavy critical light on the SJW movement by simply calling it out, and saying it was causing problems...which many people on the SJW side thought wouldn't be a problem. Some of them still don't see the slippery slope, and like no time before now, they are kind of forced to address why their brand of censorship is acceptable, but the other kinds are OK...although none have really stepped up to the plate.

Leigh Alexander herself seems to be in meltdown mode over this, going around showing her true colors by showing that her whole personal view on this is more about her distaste for the subject matter, and her utter disdain for gamers in general. It'd be said to see if she wasn't such a vicious b*tch to begin with inciting the whole gamer community from the start.

It's really odd to see a rather established publisher make such a unfiltered statement about the issue, and honestly, I'm waiting for DualShockers to report on how this debate may be picking up in Japan itself(hint hint Abriel) due to this.

Now if EA, Ubi, or any other big publisher would make some similar comment instead of trying to placate this crowd with things like hiring these SJW idiots as consultants, then we might see even more progress in going back to creative freedom(ironic from EA I know). It'll be interesting to see if some of these SJW influenced games do well. If they flop heavy, then that will pretty much end this whole debate, as publishers won't give a darn about staying PC in this area anymore. But somehow they got it in their head that there is a huge market for more PC representation of women in gaming..which there is, but it needs to be more natural. Heck, the new Lara Croft was a good step IMO, as she was more real than most characters, and what got talked about by the SJW?...a sexual assault scene where she managed to take care of herself. Ridiculous stuff from SJW, and they make themselves look like idiots with their reactionary methods...which honestly, I think we all do at times.

TGG_overlord3098d ago

That´s exactly how it is, but they have started to chew on each other now. In the matter of fact, the SJW empire is falling apart. That´s also the main reason why people such as Leigh Alexander, have started to get really desperate. Because they know that their time is up. That has already happened a handful of times, just take the new COD game for example (bad reviews). Anita whined about the new Lara game, as she showed too much skin...

rainslacker3097d ago

It's really gotten beyond rediculous what they complain about now. In other mediums this kind of thing is dismissed because people realize that it's really up to the consumer to decide if they want to consume the content. The fact that some rather influential websites decided to allow these people to have such a strong voice is about the only reason why it's gotten a foothold in the gaming community.

I never would have expected a "gamer's are dead" article coming from Gamasutra given what their focus is, but they lost a lot of credibility, and despite them still having relevant articles, I can tell that a lot of the more level headed people that used to consume their content left soon after that happened. Kotaku's been losing viewers, and their site is too much an echo chamber, and Polygon is about as bad as it always was.

I'd imagine at some point, these sites are going to start pandering to the gamer again because they have to have come to realize that they won't be successful in the long run by pissing everyone off. I think it was your site that said Kotaku's days are numbered, and I have to disagree with that. I think before that happened Gawker would get rid of Totillo and some of the more extreme offenders and try to re-brand themselves as something meaningful. As has been shown by some of these people trying to start their own site, the SJW just don't really number enough for these people to go make their own site and have it be anywhere close to what it was, and at this point I'm unsure if the media outlets involved actually realize that their echo chamber is so small compared to the much larger gaming community.

I have no problem with the principals that the more moderate SJW or whatever you want to call them are asking for to be honest. I believe representing and catering to more audiences are just good for the industry and the consumer all around. But the methods of the extremist are damaging this because the gaming community is just too resistant to accepting these things or being shamed into concession.

Gamers, as a whole are pretty smart, and information moves pretty quick for those who are not as intelligent, so they're pretty on top of things that affect them. People interested in tech in general are like this, and it's always been surprising to me just how much of a foothold these extremist have gotten.

I don't even like Dead or Alive, but I'm gonna buy it now to use to our my next game tournament.

Screw PC.

Team Ninja Doesn't Get Enough Credit For Its Stories

Saad from eXputer: "Team Ninja's stories may not appeal to everyone due to their barebones nature but they deserve credit for being fun."

mastershredder64d ago (Edited 64d ago )

Exputer dude says Team Ninja needs more credit for their stories (what their known for) and credit for being fun (also known for challenging and fun gameplay). Team Ninja gets a LOT of credit. That's why they keep making games. You just can't expect everyone to award them the attention-level and regard that you think they deserve.

"I’m aware that some things are often not for everyone. Not because someone is actively gatekeeping but due to the product or premise failing to appeal to the masses" - Hmmm l dunno, sounds kinda like we are about to go for a cruise down gatekeeper blvd to me.

Takeaway, Exputer as a pimple gaming journal site that should not be concerned about the recognition standards of a studio they have zero involvement in. You perspective is outsider and totally disconnected from reality as far as how the industry sees them.

Takeaway 2, Exputer is only in about a generation deep into Team Ninja. Posers. Take your gate keepy BS and shove it. We know what makes team ninja great and they are doing just fine doing what THEY do.

Every branch under Koei Tecmo is talented I am a big fan of theirs no matter what the game is or who makes it.

GoodGuy0964d ago (Edited 64d ago )

I thought Nioh 1+2's stories were fine, nothing amazing but they kept me interested. William and the Protag in 2 were pretty cool. Wo Long was ok I guess but it just felt like another retelling of the three kingdoms again which we've seen told so much in video games and especially dynasty warriors.

ROCKY2864d ago

Where is a new DEAD OR ALIVE !!!!
That is the only game we care about from Team Ninja 😂

Team Ninja say Rise of the Ronin will have multiple difficulty options

Rise of the Ronin's difficulty options include Narrative, Intermediate and Hard. As the name suggests, Narrative mode is for players who just want to experience the story without any serious combat. Intermediate is your standard medium difficulty that will provide some challenge while Hard is in line with Team Ninja's previous games like Nioh and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty.

Ghost of Tsushima... your move!

goldwyncq166d ago (Edited 166d ago )

The visuals seem somewhat unpolished and looks like from a last gen game. I wouldn’t mind a delay.

Andrew336166d ago

A game doesn't need bleeding edge visuals to be good.

goldwyncq166d ago

Ghost of Tsushima did not have the best graphics quality compared to other PS exclusives but the beautiful art style made it stand out. This game just looks generic in comparison.
