Fallout 4 PC Review: Please Stand By - Victory Point

VP Writes: It is a calm morning on October 23rd, 2077 when, coincidentally, minutes after you reserved a place for yourself and your family at the local vault, the first bombs begin to hit the village of Sanctuary, a few kilometers away from Boston, forcing you to flee the city and seek refuge. It’s a few minutes prior to this event that Fallout 4 story begins as you and your better half are staring into a mirror, trying to get ready for a gala night.

Here's hoping Obsidian makes a New Vegas style DLC sequel.

Jerredh3098d ago

I guess i disagree. Minimum 8.5 for me. Im having alot of fun.

sullynathan3098d ago

So either Fallout 4 is a masterpiece to you or a near masterpiece?

Eidolon3098d ago

More deserving than COD's score.

Vaneriuz3097d ago

@Eidolon

Except Blops3 works like a sharm on console (and after a day or two, on PC), while Fallout 4 is a disaster on PC (and ofc buggy on console). And all this from a legendary PC developer... It's time to stop giving Bethesda slack.

The amount of work you have to out in to get it to run even close to well when you have a screen with more than 60hz is silly.Even with a 60hz screen there's editing to be done. There a bugs that i could have found in an hour if i was a playtester at Bethesda. They willingly released the game in this state.

And don't give me the "it's a big world, ofc it'll be buggy" talk. Several open world games are better polished than this one (and all their other games), including GTAV... Which is more advanced in every way, basically packing several full games in one.

It's time Bethesda get slammed for this tbh. Ubisoft got murdered online after Unity (which worked fine for me..), bjt Bethesda gets away with a way more buggy game (and way worse PC version)..

He is certainly right about the settlement building. Can't tell which settlers are assigned to what. I have to remember their faces and what clothing they're wear.

JsonHenry3098d ago

It isn't very user friendly either. It definitely feels tacked on.

isa_scout3098d ago

I was reading an article in gameinformer about how settlement building was developed. It seems that it was made for the modding community then near the end of development they decided to let everybody use it... You can really tell it wasn't developed with the average user in mind. I have over 30 hours in the game and I play RPGs extensively and it confuses the hell outta me. I can't imagine someone with no experience with Bethesda RPGs figuring these things out easily.

Pintheshadows3098d ago

Building electrical infrastructure is an interesting learning experience.

Eidolon3098d ago

Here's hoping for patches for a lot of stuff, but overall, I love the game.

shauzy3098d ago

Big fallout fan, but i hated that it didnt have the karma system, and i'd like some casinos to gamble in, too.

eklektic3097d ago

How nice of them to give us more control over graphical settings as a way to *completely* avoid taking accountability for the broken Xbox settings.

bondsmx1d 13h ago

Well, I still crashed like 5 times last night within two hours. So there’s that.

anast19h ago

I had to stop. The game is not good. I'd rather play Skyrim and that game isn't that good either.

I Think It's About Time We Realize Fallout 4 Wasn't That Bad

Ahmed from eXputer: "2015's Fallout 4 received harsh criticism upon launching, but I think it was unwarranted and the game deserves more praise than it got."

helicoptergirl6d ago

It was totally that bad. I couldn't finish the campaign it was so bland and boring as I recall. Got so sick of it. 1000 stimpaks on hard. It is very rare that I play half a game and then just quit. I usually always finish it. But i was so bored with this game I just stopped and never went back and never regretted it. Just thinking about that game makes me shudder

Furesis6d ago

That's exactly what happened to me too lmao
Fallout 4 is not a fallout game period it's a bethesda game

Vits6d ago

The comparison with Skyrim is mind-boggling. Yes, Skyrim has streamlined many of the systems that Morrowind introduced. However, it did not tamper with the core of the Elder Scrolls franchise; it did not diminish the freedom and sense of exploration that made Bethesda RPGs famous. Fallout 4, on the other hand, did exactly that to the Fallout series. It eliminated what made Fallout such a beloved series to play. There are no consequences for your choices, no reason to explore, and barely any interesting set pieces in the game.

It's not terrible, but it's a painfully mediocre game in a franchise that typically doesn't produce such mediocrity. So that is why people see it as bad, the bar is just much higher.

anast6d ago

They both feel the same because they are, it's just that one has swords and magic and the other has swords and guns.

anast6d ago

I'm replaying it now. It sucks. I'm about 30 hours in and thinking about quitting again. I am so tired of the dialogue I just spam a random button because it doesn't matter. The upgrade just feels like a graphical mod, everything else is not good.

Good-Smurf6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

I couldn't play the game as-is it was insanely boring and grindy and the grind itself are not fun at all.
Mods helped me stomach the game a bit better but after a while I just stopped playing and uninstalled it because the game did nothing after the first few hours to give me any motivation to keep playing it, it just became a mindless looter shooter with obsession in settlement building and defending.
Compared to F3 and FNV, F4 was barely a mediocre game it wasn't bad but it's also very forgettable entry.

MrDead6d ago

It's not that bad after 300+ mods that fix it's issues and make the game fun... but lets not talk about mods right now as they are f****d.
