Fallout 4 Loading Times On PS4 Are Pretty Long

If a new video is to be believed, the loading times for Fallout 4 on the PS4 are pretty long. This might well apply to the Xbox One version as well. The loading times on PC are unknown.

-_-
Hope this isn't true.
But I survived bloodborne and that was worse than this so I can handle it

VER1ON3110d ago

You're correct on Bloodborne, that was insane. Bethesda isn't known for optimizing their titles. I wonder how performance on PC will be.

extermin8or3110d ago

Tbf bloodborne was fixed pretty soon after release its fast now :)

seanpitt233110d ago

I think we have all been spoiled by the witcher 3.

wheresmymonkey3110d ago

To be fair though, when that first came out it had pretty long load times too.

Bansai3110d ago

Yup, I can drink vodka with a peasant on the far south of the map, then ride on a horse 30 minutes to the north, straight into Novigrad's whorehouse, all without ever seeing a loading screen.

cartoonx13110d ago

not really, skyrim on console had long loading times too, so its bethesda, seems like they havnt improved much :(

seanpitt233110d ago (Edited 3110d ago )

@cartoonx1 yes you would expect that from the ps360 with the hardware they had but it should of improved with the 8gb of memory in this generation.

Typing this my fallout 4 copy has just arrived :) have fun exploring guys.

nitus103110d ago

@cartoonx1

One of the main reasons for long loading times on Skyrim on the PS3 occurs when the autosave feature is turned on (this is the default). The fix is to turn off all autosaves except possibly the timed one.

The problem with doing as I have suggested means manually saving (think old school) so when Lidia says "I have a bad feeling about this" - save.

You can actually travel overland from one end of Skyrim to the other without seeing a loading screen (unless you save). Dragon armor all with dual enchantments is great for this although ancient and revered dragons are still deadly.

Loading all 3 DLC's is a risk as well since the game can become very buggy and usually many hours in. I suggest doing only one DLC at a time.

I got the game 2 days ago and the loading isnt as bad as bloodborne. Besides if u have the official fallout pip-boy app u can fiddle around with it while loading.

UserNameIsNotTaken3110d ago

Yeah..
Takamura kun given advices ;)

Dynasty20213110d ago

It's true.

Every leaked stream on PS4 and Xbox One have shown loading times in excess of 30 seconds.

PC will be faster like in every Bethesda game especially if you're running on an SSD. With an SSD, Skyrim loaded you in-game before the load menu lore or images loaded.

nitus103110d ago

Even on a PC you can get fairly long loading times if you have a poor performing disk. This is were SSD's really shine if you have the money. Also having separate disks for your OS (64GB SSD recommended), reasonable performance disk(s) for you main data and high performance disk(s) for your active game installs.

For the PS4 replacing the 5400rpm disk with a faster 7200rpm disk is a much cheaper upgrade although as with the PC an SSD is best but it is more expensive.

Aceman183110d ago

I'm not surprised it is Bethesda here, they wouldn't know how to optimize a game on a PS console if their lives depended on it lol.

madmonkey013110d ago

anyone notice this is the same website reporting the frame rate issue too.

showtimefolks3110d ago

Digital foundary already did their video explaining that both versions have about the same loafing times so the title only stating about ps4 is misleading

Also on Xbox one frame rates dip down to ZERO. But we won't see any reviews taking points away and that's why most of the reviews areally just crap

UserNameIsNotTaken3110d ago

WOW The XB1 version drops to 0fps... I ain't buying dat copy.

WilliamSheridan3110d ago

Wow, fps to zero huh? That sounds like a blatant lie. You sure it wasn't paused...

WilliamSheridan3110d ago

You almost forgot to mention the effects that bring the PS4 down to 20fps when shooting while the Xbox stays solid 30fps. I think that's the significant number considering you should be shooting often

showtimefolks3110d ago

The game is on its way but I think I will play something else till Bethesda releases at least few patches

I was just hoping for a great experience but than again Bethesda games never truly work the way they suppose to at launch

BallsEye3110d ago

Weird. At e3 they said NO LOADING TIMES.

kaizokuspy3110d ago

People are already livestreaming ps4 version via youtube. Watch it and judge for yourself or buy it.

shammgod3109d ago

yeah, the bloodborne loading was rough for early adopters. They patched it pretty fast, but the first few days were slow and only had the title screen during loading...not even tips/lore to look at!

yuukiliu3110d ago

Witcher 3 has some pretty long load times as well. Luckily I just whip out the tablet and use the net when games are loading.

Bansai3110d ago

Yeah... but you can enter every building without loading, unlike fallout.

Batnut003110d ago

So around 28-30 seconds? I can handle this, still better than when bloodborne first started and Destiny's obnoxiously long loading screens.

Eterna1Ice3110d ago (Edited 3110d ago )

IMO, DA: Inquisition has the longest loading times out of all the console games I've played. Good thing most of the locations are big enough to not let you get annoyed with it. Destiny is worse, since it happens a lot more.

showtimefolks3110d ago

Oh yeah dragon age had some very long loading screens

moegooner883110d ago

Loading times arw bit long but nothing major. The initial install however took ages, more than 30 minutes.

wotta3110d ago (Edited 3110d ago )

They are the same on XB1, it's a big game. Not a big deal really.

Bansai3110d ago

"big game" doesn't really work as a valid excuse since The Witcher 3.

Nitrowolf23110d ago

And the load times are just as bad if not worse

Bansai3110d ago

Only when you move between regions (Velen alone is bigger than whole F4), not buildings xD

How nice of them to give us more control over graphical settings as a way to *completely* avoid taking accountability for the broken Xbox settings.

bondsmx1d 14h ago

Well, I still crashed like 5 times last night within two hours. So there’s that.

anast19h ago

I had to stop. The game is not good. I'd rather play Skyrim and that game isn't that good either.

I Think It's About Time We Realize Fallout 4 Wasn't That Bad

Ahmed from eXputer: "2015's Fallout 4 received harsh criticism upon launching, but I think it was unwarranted and the game deserves more praise than it got."

helicoptergirl6d ago

It was totally that bad. I couldn't finish the campaign it was so bland and boring as I recall. Got so sick of it. 1000 stimpaks on hard. It is very rare that I play half a game and then just quit. I usually always finish it. But i was so bored with this game I just stopped and never went back and never regretted it. Just thinking about that game makes me shudder

Furesis6d ago

That's exactly what happened to me too lmao
Fallout 4 is not a fallout game period it's a bethesda game

Vits6d ago

The comparison with Skyrim is mind-boggling. Yes, Skyrim has streamlined many of the systems that Morrowind introduced. However, it did not tamper with the core of the Elder Scrolls franchise; it did not diminish the freedom and sense of exploration that made Bethesda RPGs famous. Fallout 4, on the other hand, did exactly that to the Fallout series. It eliminated what made Fallout such a beloved series to play. There are no consequences for your choices, no reason to explore, and barely any interesting set pieces in the game.

It's not terrible, but it's a painfully mediocre game in a franchise that typically doesn't produce such mediocrity. So that is why people see it as bad, the bar is just much higher.

anast6d ago

They both feel the same because they are, it's just that one has swords and magic and the other has swords and guns.

anast6d ago

I'm replaying it now. It sucks. I'm about 30 hours in and thinking about quitting again. I am so tired of the dialogue I just spam a random button because it doesn't matter. The upgrade just feels like a graphical mod, everything else is not good.

Good-Smurf6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

I couldn't play the game as-is it was insanely boring and grindy and the grind itself are not fun at all.
Mods helped me stomach the game a bit better but after a while I just stopped playing and uninstalled it because the game did nothing after the first few hours to give me any motivation to keep playing it, it just became a mindless looter shooter with obsession in settlement building and defending.
Compared to F3 and FNV, F4 was barely a mediocre game it wasn't bad but it's also very forgettable entry.

MrDead6d ago

It's not that bad after 300+ mods that fix it's issues and make the game fun... but lets not talk about mods right now as they are f****d.
