Xbox's Major Nelson: "Been Playing Fallout 4 All Day, I can't stop!"

Alhough the game it still 2 days away from public release, Microsoft's Xbox spokesman Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb, has been playing Fallout 4 all day. According Nelson he just "can't stop playing" the game.

I'm looking forward to it too but not MASSIVELY like most others are. The hype for this has surprised me. Like actual mad hype on social media, gaming forums and amongst my mates.

I guess Tomb Raider will be doomed if the hype is anything to go by for this. It'll get overshadowed simply because the hype and demand for this is astronomical

lelo2play3111d ago (Edited 3111d ago )

Yep, Microsoft/Square really dropped the ball on Rise of Tomb Raider. Pity because the game looks great.
Launching it on the same day as Fallout 4?... what the hell were Microsoft/Square thinking.

Even a guy that works for Microsoft, Major Nelson, is playing Fallout 4 instead of Rise of Tomb Raider (a game that's been promoted by Microsoft). That says a lot...

freshslicepizza3111d ago

so it's impossible to buy 2 games? it's not like they are both racing games or both rpg's. better tell sony, nintendo and microsoft to never launch a system with more than 1 game then.

VER1ON3111d ago

Well thats some solid reasoning... Nelson has been playing Tomb Raider for weeks, before he even played Fallout.Same for Phil Spencer.

freshslicepizza3111d ago

@VER1ON
"Well thats some solid reasoning... Nelson has been playing Tomb Raider for weeks, before he even played Fallout.Same for Phil Spencer."

you mean he was able to play both games! how is that possible? lucky him, if only we could.

VER1ON3111d ago

@moldybread

I was ofc replying to lelo. His reasoning is just off.

vikingland13111d ago

@moldybread

You make a valid point. It just so happens that I'm buying both.

Major Nelson has already been playing ROTTR and so has Phil Spencer. So to all the uninformed people wake the hell up : )

divinealpha3111d ago

Yah but they have been playing tomb raider for weeks major and phil my proof is I follow them on xbox 1. You can check that is if you have an xb1

DeadManMMX3111d ago

I'm playing Tomb Raider first because that's pretty straight forward like 30 hours. Fallout 4 is the next couple of months or so.

nowitzki20043111d ago

@deadman

I doubt there will be 30 hours. 15 hours would be my guess.

Benchm4rk3111d ago

@DeadmanMMX

That was my reasoning too. Finish ROTTR first then move onto Fallout

Dinkis3111d ago

Lol true. That is so stupid on there part

user99502793111d ago

both games are being promoted by MS

OH_u_DEAD3111d ago

They probably picked the right time to release the game. You're the one not thinking. All the big games are released during the fall. Last week call of duty came out, next week battlefront comes out. They had a choice of which game they wanted to go up against. COD, fallout, or battlefront. They chose fallout.

WafflesID3111d ago

Part of the reason is that its a timed exclusive. I'm not hyped about RoTR at all...because I have a PS4. That's a massive share of the market who doesn't care at all about it and all of it's focus is on Fallout 4.

ABizzel13111d ago

@moldybread

The problem is that it's not simply 2 games.

It's $120 (if you're not a GCU member...Yay BestBuy).

And it's not just $120, it's a choice between Black Ops 3, Fallout 3, Tomb Raider, Battlefront in November alone, right off the back of Halo 5, and possibly Assassin's Creed at the end of October.

That's $300 in games, and frankly most gamers aren't dropping $300 on games in a month, when they can't drop $300 on the console. So they have to pick and choose.

Of course there will be people who prefer Tomb Raider, but based on sells, every one of those other games are generally much bigger sellers than Tomb Raider.

If you don't like FPS, then more than likely you picked up Tomb Raider over Halo 5, COD, and Battlefront. But when it comes to the majority that's EXTREMELY unlikely.

They may no be in the same genre, but they're still competing for the same $60.

And what's worst you have people trying to save money for the holidays (Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Christmas are just under and over a month away).

Most younger gamers won't have the choice, because parents have to prepare for those holidays as well, that celebrate them.

It was just a bad time to release Tomb Raider, but unfortunately for MS & Square they made the deal for holiday 2015 exclusivity, and at this point MS wants it out this year to get the jump on the PC and PS4 launch next year. I'm sure CD and Square got a big check on the deal, but now they're pretty much thrown sells into the wind, and have to hope they get decent sells for the holiday on XBO (modest sells at best IMO), then drop to a discounted price early next year to get sells up (It'll be down to $40 or less by Jan), and then hope PC and PS4 players even entertain the Tomb Raider after launching months - a year later (PC will be fine, PS4 sells might be doomed if they don't really do something for the game, because I don't think a GOTY edition is enough).

It's nothing bad against Tomb Raider, it's just in an all around difficult spot.

Trekster_Gamer3111d ago

Stupid comment lelo...
I'm picking both up Monday night at midnight. It's not hard at all to buy both, I paid them off via layaway. Didn't have to drop 130 in one night!

freshslicepizza3111d ago

@ABizzel1

it's always busy this time of year and if money is tight a lot of people will simply pick one over the other and get the other later. no big deal.

PudgeyBurrito3111d ago

in an interview I watched with Aaron Green-burg on @kindafunny he said

"We are kinda hoping gamers will pickup both"

So.. get out your wallets.

Kiwi663111d ago

No it doesn't say a lot given how he's played Tomb Raider weeks ago

TeamLeaptrade3111d ago

I think Tomb Raider will do just fine. It may not beat out Fallout 4, but it will do fine. Even so, people will end up picking it up this holiday season.

jetlian3111d ago

I"M getting both and with bestbuy pts its only costing me 86 dollars total.

this time of the year this always happens should have been prepared. I got retail 300 dollars worth abizzel.

ac,h5,codbo3,fo4, and tomb raider all in 3 weeks time. got 3 games in sept and getting jc3 in dec

rainslacker3111d ago

TR would appeal to me more personally. Nothing wrong with FO, but it's still not really the genre I gravitate to. I do agree though, FO4 sales may cannibalize ROTTR sales.

Only reason I'm getting FO4 day one is for the pip boy edition, but that will go unplayed. I can wait until the price drops on the game to get a regular copy of it.

conanlifts3110d ago (Edited 3110d ago )

I think it was a mistake. Uncharted/ tomb raider are my favourite game types. With this in mind i have bought tomb raider, but i have also bought fallout 4, yet i have never played fallout. Not only that but with the hype im not sure whether to play fallout or tomb raider first( despite how much i love the franchise).

Im hardly hearing anything about tomb raider , yet fallout is everywhere.

The mass consumer does not follow N4g forums or conspiracy theories regarding one game doing better then another I play almost all games and I can't state my opinion as if I speak for all. Personally, I will pick up all games but I know a few who do not like the Fallout series and are picking TombRaider. TombRaider has a long shelf life dont judge based off initial hype for fallout lets see what the future holds for all of these games. Especially, since fallout and TombRaider are not the only titles competing within 3 weeks 6 tiltles are competing and in the entire holiday over 40 are wanting consumers to buy.

rainslacker3111d ago

The mass consumer buys 1 game a month at most. Which is likely to be more appealing to the mass consumer? The traditionally high selling FO game, or a TR game?

As a more hardcore gamer, if I were that into both games, I'd get both. Since I'm not, I'd choose TR, but since I'm getting caught up in my recent backlog I will hold off on it. FO4 will get a sale because I'm getting a pip boy edition, but that's sort of a special case, and the TR Limited edition didn't appeal to me with how lackluster the previous one was, not to mention how Xbox LE's tend to devalue super fast.

conanlifts3110d ago

One thing is that i believe, regardless of week 1 sales, that Tomb Raider will sell more consoles for the xmas period.

kaizokuspy3111d ago

It's almost been 6-7 years since new fallout man. We've played tomb raider recently. That's why I'm more excited for fallout. I have to scratch that itch

WowSoChill3111d ago

How did this go from an article about Fallout to a discussion about Tomb Raider? are you all still that salty about TR? hell it is confirmed for PS4 and you guys were all ok with it i thought, stop whining like babies its pathetic

Ravenor3111d ago

...That's some firm logic you have there.

It's people discussing whether the same release day will have a serious impact on RoTR's sales. My guess is probably not a huge one, but at the end of the day it doesn't really matter. What on earth does the timed exclusivity have to do with it?

The pettiness really has to stop, it neuters any chance of talking honestly and candidly about the business of games on the internet.

PreAtaric3110d ago

Maybe because the very first comment, from a guy who is definitely not a PS4 fanboy, brought up TR and the fact that both release on the same day…?

Just a wild guess, NotSoChill...

CartBlanche3111d ago

The reason Major Nelson is talking up Fallout is because Tomb Raider is reviewing badly, so they want to divert attention away from the bad reviews and get gamers focusing on a really good game on Xbox One.

I'll be proven right in a couple of days :)

Lennoxb633111d ago

"The reason Major Nelson is talking up Fallout is because Tomb Raider is reviewing badly."

Umm... When was this? Can you point me to the article?

jb2273111d ago

Do you have any potential evidence for that theory? My main concerns for the game were the length, the quality of the story, environmental variety & the prevalence of tombs in the actual narrative. It had seemed to me from the previews that people were digging it, but there were some nitpicks I had...the character animations have obviously just been pulled over wholesale from the last game, just stiff & kinda janky...then the bow on Lara's back magically disappeared when going through a space then reappeared when dropping down to a ledge. Little things like that are kinda immersion breaking. Also the idea of microtransations & season pass featuring a single tomb that was most likely pulled out of the game to make up some lost money for the timed exclusive is kind of a bummer. Hope the game turns out great for the fans though I'd kinda be glad if the sales were low because it might make CD think twice the next time they have a timed exclusive deal in front of them.

CartBlanche3111d ago

Watch the last gameplay footage release and take note how repetitive the kill animations are or how the AI reacts (hint they DON'T) to enemies killed nearby. Now compare those reactions to how enemies react and co-ordinate with each other in Metal Gear Solid:Phantom Pain.
The graphics are pretty good, but are far from excellent for an exclusive, presumably timed and presumably their 1St target platform.
As I said, in a couple of days we'll find out if the above is accurate or not, when official reviews come out.

I still can't understand why MS/Square didn't push that date either slightly forward or slightly backward the moment Fallout 4 got a date.

People are saying they're different games and all that, which is true of course, but like you say, the hype for FO4 is crazy, you wouldn't think any other game was coming out this month judging by it.

daBUSHwhaka3111d ago

Tomb Raider will do just fine.People do buy most blockbusters and with Christmas a stone throw away this will sell.

UKmilitia3111d ago

i read its loads of bugs which can be expected from them i suppose.
bad framerate issues too

Malacath3111d ago

Na. Tomb Raider and Fallout are two different types of games.

Even if it doesn't sell as well to begin with due to Fallout they can make up sales at Christmas.

Although that will depend on it getting good reviews.

Personally I've pre-ordered both although I don't think tomb raider is released until Friday in the UK so get 3 days to play Fallout before Tomb Raider is released.

too many great games ms has a real problem on its hands

RiseofScorpio3111d ago

Such a bad idea on MSs part. Would it really be that hard for TR to move to December or something? Too late now obviously.

bleedsoe9mm3111d ago

@Waluigi_isunderrated i don't get that thinking , so its better if it has less time on the market for the massive spending spree that is the run-up to christmas . ms knows what they are doing its much more important that its available for the black friday sales .

cfc783111d ago

Just watched about 15 mins on Twitch and the game looks great.(I don't speak German so nothing was spoiled)

Not long to go now can't wait.

nowitzki20043111d ago

Except 15 minutes of gameplay.

Ultraplayerxp3111d ago

Of a 100 hr+ game...which is not even like 1%.

kaizokuspy3111d ago

400+ hrs* super excited. I'm going to be wearing fallout 4 socks, fallout 4 pip boy, drinking nuka cola quantum soda, and I'll be playing until my eyes bleed. With all of the leaks. Nothing can ruin this game or stop me from enjoying it.

Featuring_Dante3110d ago

wow, someone managed to stream FO4 on twitch for 15mins without getting banned. im surprised. i managed to do 5 mins and the twitch snitch reported me and bam, i was banned.

ScaReCrow903111d ago

Well I'll be enjoying both tomb raider and fallout this holiday.

Thomaticus3111d ago

Damn, Tomb Raider is being released now? I thought that game didn't come out until 2016. lol

scark923111d ago

Only being released for Xbox One this year.

divinealpha3111d ago

Yah your right it is 2016 for your ps4 or pc

nix3111d ago (Edited 3111d ago )

Please spare us your fanboyish tongue.

What he's saying is the game is so close to release that he didn't realise it at all. Even i thought it's going to come around December. I was quite surprised that it's coming out this early.

OT: Where's that article that said if the game has broken the street date, it's like back stabbing the devs. Hahaha.
Look who's backstabbing them? ☺

nowitzki20043111d ago

Will be too busy with other games either way. TR is a game that I wait for a price drop for.. PC version should be on sale for $30 though before it comes out.

3111d ago
UKmilitia3111d ago

nah thats the definative version on pc and ps4 ahaha.

only joking.

im getting it for the xbox i bought my kid for xmas(thats secretly for me )

How nice of them to give us more control over graphical settings as a way to *completely* avoid taking accountability for the broken Xbox settings.

I had to stop. The game is not good. I'd rather play Skyrim and that game isn't that good either.

I Think It's About Time We Realize Fallout 4 Wasn't That Bad

Ahmed from eXputer: "2015's Fallout 4 received harsh criticism upon launching, but I think it was unwarranted and the game deserves more praise than it got."

helicoptergirl6d ago

It was totally that bad. I couldn't finish the campaign it was so bland and boring as I recall. Got so sick of it. 1000 stimpaks on hard. It is very rare that I play half a game and then just quit. I usually always finish it. But i was so bored with this game I just stopped and never went back and never regretted it. Just thinking about that game makes me shudder

Furesis6d ago

That's exactly what happened to me too lmao
Fallout 4 is not a fallout game period it's a bethesda game

Vits6d ago

The comparison with Skyrim is mind-boggling. Yes, Skyrim has streamlined many of the systems that Morrowind introduced. However, it did not tamper with the core of the Elder Scrolls franchise; it did not diminish the freedom and sense of exploration that made Bethesda RPGs famous. Fallout 4, on the other hand, did exactly that to the Fallout series. It eliminated what made Fallout such a beloved series to play. There are no consequences for your choices, no reason to explore, and barely any interesting set pieces in the game.

It's not terrible, but it's a painfully mediocre game in a franchise that typically doesn't produce such mediocrity. So that is why people see it as bad, the bar is just much higher.

anast6d ago

They both feel the same because they are, it's just that one has swords and magic and the other has swords and guns.

anast6d ago

I'm replaying it now. It sucks. I'm about 30 hours in and thinking about quitting again. I am so tired of the dialogue I just spam a random button because it doesn't matter. The upgrade just feels like a graphical mod, everything else is not good.

Good-Smurf6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

I couldn't play the game as-is it was insanely boring and grindy and the grind itself are not fun at all.
Mods helped me stomach the game a bit better but after a while I just stopped playing and uninstalled it because the game did nothing after the first few hours to give me any motivation to keep playing it, it just became a mindless looter shooter with obsession in settlement building and defending.
Compared to F3 and FNV, F4 was barely a mediocre game it wasn't bad but it's also very forgettable entry.

MrDead6d ago

It's not that bad after 300+ mods that fix it's issues and make the game fun... but lets not talk about mods right now as they are f****d.
