PlayStation VR Release Date Will Be Known in 2016, Says Shuhei Yoshida

Written by Jason Dunning: "With the recent PlayStation VR features trailer highlighting a first half of 2016 release window, and Sony Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida saying it was “too early” to narrow down the exact price and release date, many people were looking ahead to PlayStation Experience in December for more virtual reality details."

I got a lot of disagrees for believing the headset to be priced around the $200 range as a standalone device. Looking at Yoshida's quote, I may not be far off.

Yoshida's quote

"We are bringing a console mentality and also making developers test it fully before using their content. We tend to price hardware not to make money from it but to get as many install base so that content can be sold. This is the same kind of thinking in the way we are approaching PlayStation VR."

This pleases me greatly. Day 1 purchase from me. Damnnn, they know what they're doing. For me personally, I don't purchase that many games for my PS4, but I'm definitely buying every damn thing I can get for PS VR just to experience it. People that don't have to worry about money are going to buy a boat load of software. VR is new and exciting and as it gets full development support, the future is very exciting also.

So damn ready!! Now, does anyone think if a date is announced in 2016 that it will get a same year release? Or are we looking at 2017?

TheLEGENDofTydo3114d ago

Its going to be released first quarter 2016 just no date yet.

My body is ready

freshslicepizza3114d ago

i would hope so that it will be known in 2016 since that is when it's coming, lol. sony does not want to reveal their hand too early because nobody else is giving concrete conformation either. besides, they would rather feel out the market and hype it up in case it is rather expensive.

S2Killinit3114d ago

I think it has to do with the fact that all VR devices are waiting to release concurrently. That way they can have a larger impact than anyone of them separately.

Bathyj3114d ago

I guess Sony want a chance to relieve that day when they were "dancing in the aisles". Makes sense.

I personally think technology like this is not going to be cheap or for everyone so theres no point upsetting everyone before christmas if they have abomb to drop.

S2Killinit3114d ago (Edited 3114d ago )

they have already mentioned that the headset will cost "similar to the console". Its safe to say it will be around 349-399. (possibly slightly higher). This may or may not be with the camera included. I think its a reasonable price and its on par with how much the other devices are allegedly going to cost. So I think there is not really a reason to get upset. VR isn't cheap, and we already know what to expect.

Bathyj3114d ago

Well I realise it wont be cheap. But everyone wants something for nothing now days. Look at the all the complaining about game prices while they are cheaper than they were in the 90's (at least in Australia)

All I'm saying is why put a damper on holiday sales. When the price is announced, it doesnt matter what it is, there will be complaining. Sony wants everyone smiling in the holidays and looking forward to VR, not writing it off as too expensive and maybe souring the chance at buying a PS4.

Eonjay3114d ago

I would like to think so.

BlackPanther3114d ago

I'd sure hope we would know the price of PS VR in 2016 considering that is when it comes out but I'm assuming we may know in December.

I can finally watch pron, I mean watch pronouns be pronounced in PC VR games that were previously not available on Playstation.

crazyCoconuts54d ago

be careful not to sprain your... tongue pronouncing those pronouns

Profchaos54d ago

I'm excited for that to plus I can try fallout 4 VR always wanted to play that

crazyCoconuts54d ago

I was lucky and held off on 4 until I played it in VR. It really is pretty awesome - you'll love it.

DaReapa54d ago

The icing on the cake would be if Sony / Valve allow for a Steam Link app much like it is for the Quest 3. Likely wishful thinking, though.
