No, Fallout 4 Doesn’t Look the Same as Fallout 3

CraveOnline: "I feel that it's high time we cleared a few things up about the upcoming Fallout 4 and this frequently repeated myth that the game somehow "looks the same" as Fallout 3."

People really need to wear glasses if they think Fallout 3 looks like Fallout 4. The difference between them is really big.

Timesplitter143113d ago (Edited 3113d ago )

I wouldn't say that's a "big" difference for an 8 year gap. I'd just say the difference doesn't matter.

Or maybe there is a big difference but something about it still doesn't really look good.

Either way, my point is Fallout 4's graphics don't look good and that's fine. Why can't people be comfortable with that?

BallsEye3113d ago

I think the problem is that both fallout 3 and fallout 4 seem to be behind other games in their generation. Fallout 3, when it came out it was an amazing game, but an awful looking one in the same time. Huge difference between 3 and 4, but doesn't mean 4 looks on par with other games from this generation. I personally don't care. Enjoyed the hell out of fallout 3, will have a blast in fallout 4 as long as they didn't dumb it down (bethesda likes to do that with every next game).

zidane13413113d ago

@timesplitter: I highly disagree
The screen shots look good. Full of color and the lighting is great. It might not be the best looking game, no.but plenty of people who's played it said it looks good.

ShinMaster3113d ago (Edited 3113d ago )

Who said it looked like Fallout 3?

There are other large open world last-gen games that look better than this current-gen game.

Honestly though, the issue has more to do with its aesthetics. The graphics, technically, are alright.

ravinash3112d ago (Edited 3112d ago )

The problem is, if you turn up the graphics, you have to make cuts in other areas.
That can be time debugging or system resources.

A lot of games you may start playing and see the wow factor, but then after a few hours you don't even notice any more.
I'd rather they spend their time making a fuller richer experience.

What's with the hostility. Misguided is surely a better word no?

DarkOcelet3113d ago

How are they misguided lol? The difference between both is night and day.

Take a look at this.

Lev19033113d ago

I read this one online:

"Fallout offers 1000 hours of content, but ughh the hair on the dog is not well renderred. So F$#@ Fallout."

People are just stupid i geuss.

Timesplitter143113d ago (Edited 3113d ago )

@Lev1903
The thing is; by saying F4's graphics don't look good, people aren't saying F4 won't be good or won't be worth it. This misunderstanding is the biggest problem here. Your example doesn't apply here because we are only talking about the dog's hair, not the amount of content. If you say the dog's hair isn't well-rendered, then we all agree.

This is typical of gaming culture. If someone says something isn't perfect, people are gonna think that person has a secret hateful agenda against that thing.

Hear this: I think F4 looks like crap and will be the best game this year. Why does this confuse people?

Lev19033113d ago

@Timesplitter14

Because you are critizing a game where you are gonna put hours gameplay in. Its kinde the same as saying: well the toyota prius is well engineered car and i will use it for the coming years, but it looks like crap and i hate toyota for it.

Why buy something you dont like a part of it?

Timesplitter143113d ago (Edited 3113d ago )

@Lev1903
It's nothing like that. I never said I hated Bethesda. And acknowledging the pros and cons of something isn't "wrong"; it's only healthy. What's "wrong" is being a loyal fanatic of something to the point where there's never any room for nuance and you take any criticism as a personal attack.

"Why buy something you dont like a part of it?"
Please take a few microseconds to think about it and I'm sure you'll figure it out.

It doesn't look like Fallout 3 but it does look comparable to 360 graphical capabilities. This wouldn't even push the Wii U to its limits, let alone PS4. It could have cooked another year but I don't really care about graphics that much so I'm happy with it as it is.

zidane13413113d ago (Edited 3113d ago )

This is nowhere near 360 level capability. You need to go back and see what the 360 can do. Because there's no way in hell it could do this. Sorry just no. Your full of nostalgia if you honestly believe that stupid comment.

gobluesamg3113d ago

My god the 360? Really dude?

The difference between Fallout 3 and Fallout 4 is more apparent than Oblivion and Skyrim.

Fallout has never been a looker but 4 is way better graphically than 3.

uncharted563113d ago

I think the problem here rather is that compared to other open world games from this gen Fallout 4 does not hold up and thats why people are disappointed and complaining. I think the game looks good minus the contrasting art direction and color scheme since they obviously used assets from the last game. Also some tings like character models and more have high res but then things like shadows and garbage and rubble are kinda low textures destroying the unity of the graphics style giving you a unpleasant feeling as viewer and a player. Nonethless gameplay and story looks good.

Crazay3113d ago

HAHAHAH! I've seen so many comments like that I just move along shaking my head. This is a fantastic post by Crave.

rocketleague3113d ago

Honestly I think Fallout 4 looks beautiful, it's just not quite as stylized as a lot of other games today. Textures look crisp, lighting is gorgeous, and models are insanely detailed. I mean to the best looking game of today, but definitely one of the best that isn't built upon a graphics over gameplay

zidane13413113d ago (Edited 3113d ago )

The people that are saying its "crap" or that a 360 can do the graphics really sound like brats.

rocketleague3113d ago

a lot of entitled gamers. They forget that many games today are built to simply look good. Here is a game valuing gameplay over graphics and yet people still complain? Hell it looks beautiful. Maybe a few games look better, but they never have the depth or scale

Sir_Simba3113d ago (Edited 3113d ago )

Watch the lauch trailer it came out today, game looks really good.

How nice of them to give us more control over graphical settings as a way to *completely* avoid taking accountability for the broken Xbox settings.

Well, I still crashed like 5 times last night within two hours. So there’s that.

I Think It's About Time We Realize Fallout 4 Wasn't That Bad

Ahmed from eXputer: "2015's Fallout 4 received harsh criticism upon launching, but I think it was unwarranted and the game deserves more praise than it got."

helicoptergirl5d ago

It was totally that bad. I couldn't finish the campaign it was so bland and boring as I recall. Got so sick of it. 1000 stimpaks on hard. It is very rare that I play half a game and then just quit. I usually always finish it. But i was so bored with this game I just stopped and never went back and never regretted it. Just thinking about that game makes me shudder

Furesis5d ago

That's exactly what happened to me too lmao
Fallout 4 is not a fallout game period it's a bethesda game

Vits5d ago

The comparison with Skyrim is mind-boggling. Yes, Skyrim has streamlined many of the systems that Morrowind introduced. However, it did not tamper with the core of the Elder Scrolls franchise; it did not diminish the freedom and sense of exploration that made Bethesda RPGs famous. Fallout 4, on the other hand, did exactly that to the Fallout series. It eliminated what made Fallout such a beloved series to play. There are no consequences for your choices, no reason to explore, and barely any interesting set pieces in the game.

It's not terrible, but it's a painfully mediocre game in a franchise that typically doesn't produce such mediocrity. So that is why people see it as bad, the bar is just much higher.

anast5d ago

They both feel the same because they are, it's just that one has swords and magic and the other has swords and guns.

anast5d ago

I'm replaying it now. It sucks. I'm about 30 hours in and thinking about quitting again. I am so tired of the dialogue I just spam a random button because it doesn't matter. The upgrade just feels like a graphical mod, everything else is not good.

Good-Smurf5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

I couldn't play the game as-is it was insanely boring and grindy and the grind itself are not fun at all.
Mods helped me stomach the game a bit better but after a while I just stopped playing and uninstalled it because the game did nothing after the first few hours to give me any motivation to keep playing it, it just became a mindless looter shooter with obsession in settlement building and defending.
Compared to F3 and FNV, F4 was barely a mediocre game it wasn't bad but it's also very forgettable entry.

MrDead5d ago

It's not that bad after 300+ mods that fix it's issues and make the game fun... but lets not talk about mods right now as they are f****d.
