Need for Speed Review | CGM

Yes, there are better, more realistic racing experiences on the market, but few titles can match the pure engagement that this year’s Need for Speed offers.

easy there, killer. its good but not THAT good. lol

I've been playing it non stop bro, the game is THAT good, but some things I was left disappointed with tbh.

don't judge a book by its cover, go out and try it yourself and see if its good or not, only if you're a fan of cars or the old NFSs that is.

Interesting. I will have a better idea of how this game plays once my download finishes.

But so far there have been a lot of bad reviews for this, so I am cautious. Ill be honest, though...the way I love forza horizon and FM6, this game is going to have a hell of a job convincing me that I should buy it. especially when I consider that If I wait a few months, it will be on access for free. Im currently downloading the NFS rivals aswell (may as well blitz through it and unlock some gamer points)

On a side note..xbox to PC streaming ROCKS!

@FlexLuger
NFS is an arcade racer so its unfair to be comparing it with FM6 or even horizon 2. yes FH2 is quite similar to NFS but they're really different. FH2 still has the mechanics of a sim, the way the car handles is pretty much FM6 but on open world environment with open roads and no rules like FM6.

this NFS brings back the old days of customization and personalizing your own ride, still the old installments of NFS are better than this one but that doesn't mean its bad, it has the same feel as undergoround (the night racing, customization) but its still missing that underground/Most Wanted 2005 magic and what made them both special in the franchise.

"NFS is an arcade racer so its unfair to be comparing it with FM6 or even horizon 2."

I wasnt comparing it to FM6 per se...more highlighting the fact that it needs to be damn good to steal playtime from those two games for me, purely as a racing game..only so many I can play at any one time, so it better be a good one.. just speaking in terms of racing games I play at the moment.

FH2 does indeed maintain the physics of a sim racer, but its far more forgiving..its grippier and less liable to bite your head off for making mistakes than forza 6...so the comparison is valid, because at the end of the day FH2 is no sim..its an open world arcade racer and as such the comparison stands...NFS games are pretty open and offers a similar approach to thiongs ..although not as detailed tuning/customization program. But FM2 spanks it by all accounts from what I have seen..but Ill be playing it in a few hourse to confirm this...

in the meantime...ever seen a gundam themed R33 skyline? Ill hook you up, homie ;)

panzeer dragoon themed scooby decked out in a C-west body kit? I got that..

And If I do see a cool looking car in NFS...I can copy the decals to the same car in forza and then some...like I did the nismo skyline from GT6..If there are any GT6 players here, could you please upload a photo of this car to see how close I got the decals.

We old school NFS fans don't like what is dished out
is the "Major disappointment".

ive also been playing non-stop and i find the handling to be weird(bad), sometimes nonsensical and the AI to be cheap. other than that i love it.

the thing NFS excels at and really just nails is the whole night racing car culture scene. its great. its fun. and its great that its always online.

@reallynow, have you played it....if so, is it better than the awesome Criterion PS3/36o efforts, in Most Wanted & Hot Pursuit?????

reallyNow3137d ago

I've been playing since literally the minute it launched. It took me a couple of days of frustration to finally get a handling set-up that almost makes it OK. The rubberbanding AI is really annoying though. The game works best if you dont try for the first 90% of the race then go full throttle before they have a chance to rubberband and cheat you out of a victory.

I've been playing Need for Speed for 5 hours straight, and I must say I'm REALLY happy with it and kinda disappointed with it on some aspects of the game. I'm definitely happy, extremely happy with the way they're taking this series back to its roots, its what I really want, its what the majority of NFS fans wanted after all! Based on my experience, I'm happy with it, just happy with the way it plays. Sure, there's some issues like the A.I and the handling on some of the cars I tried, it's not perfect, but the awesome customization that lets you change every part of the car to your liking that I even spent 2 hours straight in the garage just customizing my BRZ, tons of options to choose from, front bumpers, rear bumpers, fenders, spoilers, rims, body kits, skirts, and on and on and on! Its just outstanding and similar to Underground customization but this one has more than that, more in-depth customizable parts of the car. Also the great progression system and great graphics (possibly the best looking racing game in 2015! Closely in par with DRIVECLUB graphics! but DC still has the edge on this aspect) makes it stand out from the rest of the recent NFSs.

Its a step in the right direction, and they should continue on it and learn from their mistakes on this one and add more to the game, and they really need to remove the always online its kinda unnecessary to be honest, but what I like was that other players can start races with you (impromptu races - similar to the way it is in GTA V online) and also the normal user-triggered races scattered across the map.

I'm liking it so far, sure you start slowly and with a SLOW stock car, but when you level up it all gets exciting as more tuning and upgrades unlock and it can be a game changer.

All it needs is a little fine tuning like stability and extra parts for some cars and more cars (51 cars atm) and it could very well be a great arcade racer we've been waiting for for ages.

Story - 6/10 ~
Gameplay - 9/10 ++
Graphics - 10/10 +++
Customization - 10/10 +++
Engine sounds - 8/10 +
in-game music - 7/10 ~+
multiplayer - 7/10 ~+

my rating for the game (in its current state): 8.1/10

-its a good game, I'm really happy with it, hopefully with future updates it would get even better if they do it right, who knows. You guys remember DRIVECLUB when it launched? mixed reviews and all, but look at it now, an unprecedented racing game on the PS4 with bikes!

I hope GhostGames would improve their game, since they said they'll be releasing DLCs for free in future updates, I can't wait to see what will they add to the game.

iistuii3137d ago

Seems to be a delay in the driving, did you find that. I touch my stick & it's not instant, maybe the cars stock & needs tweaking, but it's got a strange handling at the moment for me. I don't like the rubber banding AI either, one min I'm miles ahead then they fly past & moments later are waiting for me again. Looks nice, but I'm not convinced just yet, 6 hours left on EA access so plenty of time to make my mind up
