Below you can see screenshots of the map taken via Pip-Boy while inside Power Armor (making the map larger on-screen) then stitched together to give you an idea of just how large the map really is. Be sure to click the image for full size."

That looks pretty big...even has smaller islands to the far right. Wonder how you get to them unless there is a boat

roland823116d ago

You can call in a helicopter to pick you up

-Foxtrot3116d ago

So no post apocalyptic Miami Vice styled boat chases then...shame

SolidStoner3116d ago

@ roland82

lol, it reminds me MGS5, and those miniguns on both sides dosnt hepl, and that dog..... :D where's Quiet then? :D

Randostar3116d ago

You can swim and hold your breath underwater. Infact their is a perk for it....Aqua Boy! Since Boston is a coastal area, there should be some underwater exploration......Maybe even a partially underwater VAULT!

Mega243115d ago

You just blew my mind...

cannon88003116d ago

@ Foxtrot

I think this person's math is off. If each block is about 200 feet long, that means each block is 40,000 square feet. There are about 729 blocks. So (40,000)*(729)= 29,160,000 square feet. That equals to about 1 square mile. Something is very wrong. I think those squares are more than 200 feet long.

DaCajun3116d ago (Edited 3116d ago )

Thank you, I saw that too. That author's math skills are horrible. He might need to go back to elementary school for a refresher. You got the same results I did when doing the math. The 200ft length per segment this guy came up with seems very wrong and I don't believe that game is just one 1 square mile either.

cannon88003116d ago

@ DaCajun

If rumors of Fallout 4's map size being about 3 times the size of skyrim (15.06 square miles) are true. Then that would mean that it's about 45.10 square miles, or roughly 1,315,116,000 square feet.

starrman19853116d ago

@ cannon8800 I don't think the actual map size was actually 3x as big, it was the content within it. I can't remember which interview or where I heard that but I'm sure it was said that the actual size of the map wouldn't be 3x bigger.

ion6663115d ago

Patience is a virtue. I will not spoil the game for myself. I will not click that link. Be strong the game is upon us. 1 more week.

Black0ut3116d ago

Should I click it? SHOULD I CLICK IT??

God I can't help myself, I think I might have to do the same thing ='(

Randostar3116d ago

Lol. You wouldnt last 5 seconds in /r/FO4/

the_mack_attack33116d ago

I have made some stupid decisions in my day, pressing that link is another one. Cool looking map though!

TacticAce3116d ago

Cant really tell how bid it really is with this, hope its bigger than skyrim.

JonnyBigBoss3116d ago

The very top left island is the starting area where there are several homes, backyards, and more. Basically, the map is absolutely massive.

GUTZnPAPERCUTZ3116d ago

It does not look that large to me... It's a short street with a cul de sac at the end where you first start, you can tell by how many streets there are and the spacing per street block it won't be much larger than Fallout 3 or skyrim and will be smaller than GTA V

IIFloodyII3116d ago (Edited 3116d ago )

I'm pretty sure they said it's about the same size as Skyrim's world, just a lot of it won't be taken up by mountains.

Edit: found it.

BiggerBoss3116d ago

Thats good. Skyrims map was plenty big enough for me, even with the mountains.

IIFloodyII3116d ago

@Biggerboss

Oh, yeah, it's big, but not overwhelmingly so. I'm sure they'll have a lot of cool places to explore too.

Tctczach3116d ago

This really means nothing until people run across the map and see how long it takes.

JonnyBigBoss3116d ago

It took me a good minute to run from the starting area to the first town. They can be seen on the top left of the map.

Tctczach3116d ago (Edited 3116d ago )

Would you say it's bigger than Skyrim or Vegas?

JonnyBigBoss3116d ago

Bigger than Vegas. Similar to Skyrim.

EazyC3116d ago

Hm yeah, but if you take into account all the inaccessible mountainous areas of New Vegas, it's a lot smaller than it seems. I hope it's dense and unique rather than expansive and samey a la Marrowind.

Dynasty20213115d ago (Edited 3115d ago )

It's been confirmed to take roughly 11 minutes to run from top left to bottom right. Run+sprinting whenever possible due to stamina.

Skyrim takes about 14 minutes.

TW3 takes about 16 minutes.

Don't know where Todd was getting "bigger than Skyrim" from then.

And it's confirmed in the PC leak stream earlier today that the map is border-less and has an invisible wall that prompts you "you cant go that way" and you just run on the spot.

Also, LOL at all you console peasants that said the PC screenshots were photoshopped, as the PC version is currently being streamed live as we speak with proof of menus etc.

And it looks far better than on consoles.

How nice of them to give us more control over graphical settings as a way to *completely* avoid taking accountability for the broken Xbox settings.

bondsmx1d 16h ago

Well, I still crashed like 5 times last night within two hours. So there’s that.

anast22h ago

I had to stop. The game is not good. I'd rather play Skyrim and that game isn't that good either.

I Think It's About Time We Realize Fallout 4 Wasn't That Bad

Ahmed from eXputer: "2015's Fallout 4 received harsh criticism upon launching, but I think it was unwarranted and the game deserves more praise than it got."

helicoptergirl7d ago

It was totally that bad. I couldn't finish the campaign it was so bland and boring as I recall. Got so sick of it. 1000 stimpaks on hard. It is very rare that I play half a game and then just quit. I usually always finish it. But i was so bored with this game I just stopped and never went back and never regretted it. Just thinking about that game makes me shudder

Furesis6d ago

That's exactly what happened to me too lmao
Fallout 4 is not a fallout game period it's a bethesda game

Vits6d ago

The comparison with Skyrim is mind-boggling. Yes, Skyrim has streamlined many of the systems that Morrowind introduced. However, it did not tamper with the core of the Elder Scrolls franchise; it did not diminish the freedom and sense of exploration that made Bethesda RPGs famous. Fallout 4, on the other hand, did exactly that to the Fallout series. It eliminated what made Fallout such a beloved series to play. There are no consequences for your choices, no reason to explore, and barely any interesting set pieces in the game.

It's not terrible, but it's a painfully mediocre game in a franchise that typically doesn't produce such mediocrity. So that is why people see it as bad, the bar is just much higher.

anast6d ago

They both feel the same because they are, it's just that one has swords and magic and the other has swords and guns.

anast6d ago

I'm replaying it now. It sucks. I'm about 30 hours in and thinking about quitting again. I am so tired of the dialogue I just spam a random button because it doesn't matter. The upgrade just feels like a graphical mod, everything else is not good.

Good-Smurf6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

I couldn't play the game as-is it was insanely boring and grindy and the grind itself are not fun at all.
Mods helped me stomach the game a bit better but after a while I just stopped playing and uninstalled it because the game did nothing after the first few hours to give me any motivation to keep playing it, it just became a mindless looter shooter with obsession in settlement building and defending.
Compared to F3 and FNV, F4 was barely a mediocre game it wasn't bad but it's also very forgettable entry.

MrDead6d ago

It's not that bad after 300+ mods that fix it's issues and make the game fun... but lets not talk about mods right now as they are f****d.
