Really looking forward to this.

amiga-man3136d ago (Edited 3136d ago )

The Japanese have a style all their own, you gotta love it.

Game4Next3136d ago (Edited 3136d ago )

Nier Automata should use Unreal Engine 4! The environment is dry, yet the concept art very juicy and refreshing. Seriously, Platinum Games' Scalebound, Kingdom Hearts 3, Dragon Quest XI, all use Unreal Engine 4!

Game4Next3136d ago

SONY, Nier Automata is PS4 Exclusive, Demand Better Graphics!!!

NewMonday3136d ago

the film grain used here is perfect for the game concept, and the music track is fitting.

not only a combination of great story+great gameplay+great art design+ great soundtrack

we have a potential all time classic in our hands here

miyamoto3136d ago

Remember this is Squarenix and Platinum Games powers combined!
The stylistic minimalism art direction is perfect genius to let them focus on gameplay, frame rate and huge open world levels.

I wonder which PG game is the Better one: Bayonetta 2, Scalebound or NieR....

Gazondaily3136d ago

@Gribble

Damn that looks stunning

@Game
There isn't a problem with the graphics. Just cause it seems like everyone is making their games interactive movies and open world games doesn't mean everyone should do it. Just because Mortal Kombat makes their fighting games with terrible programming and garbage netcode doesn't mean every fighting game should.

Nier is about more than the graphics. Nier is about the experience, the story, the music, everything. It's people with the Graphics over gameplay mentality that are partially responsible for ruining gaming.

ravinash3136d ago

It's hard to tell in some places what's the art work and what's the game play.

I like the art style.

Ashlen3136d ago (Edited 3136d ago )

Yea, I'm really excited for this game too. I really enjoyed the first one.

My only real concern and that's probably too strong of a word is that the gameplay is being done by Platinum (which is one of the best studios esp. for game play) but Nier had kind of an old school janky gameplay that I actually really enjoyed.

I like a little jank in my games to much polish makes things boring. It's like EA, every game ends up feeling the same because you pretty much know exactly what to expect because every game has been focus grouped and playtested so much.

GribbleGrunger3136d ago

So NieR and yet so far ... (someone had to say it.)

WickedLester3136d ago (Edited 3136d ago )

Is that how you pronounce it? For some reason I was thinking it's pronounced "nigh-ear"

Concertoine3136d ago

Your ear is clearly not nigh, it's pronounced near.

gangsta_red3136d ago

Platinum is really turning out to be a premo top tier developer.

Something I never understood though, why do artists feel the need to put beauty marks on their characters, what is the conscience decision to do that?

IamTylerDurden13136d ago (Edited 3136d ago )

Platinum has their share of mediocre games as well (Korra, transformers) and they're entirely one dimensional, but they do make excellent hack n slash.

Luckily Saito, Yoko, and Okabe (original devs/score from Squenix) will be developing it as well. Square Enix will handle the story and overall creative side of the game while Platinum will plug in the grunt work and add their A+ combat to the project. A perfect marriage imo, but Yoko has final say. Sometimes Platinum's games can be a bit shallow and lacking in story, this is my fear for that dragon game with the god-awful headphone wearing protagonist.

I think devs add beauty marks, scars, and other subtleties to add character and detail. Perhaps to implement a sense of style or realism? Makes sense to me.

Nier is looking phenomenal.

gangsta_red3136d ago (Edited 3136d ago )

Transformers is an excellent game, mediocre is definitely your opinion. But even still every company has had their share of misses, doesn't mean they are not a grade A developer because of it.

The protagonist in scalebound is god awful because he's wearing headphones? Let's be honest here, Neir one's story wasn't some master piece of literature either so I don't know why you think Neir 2 will be some sort of Kanye and Kim Kardashian hype. The action is what makes the games from Platinum, story has always taken a back seat and while they aren't North and South worthy they aren't as bad as you say they are.

Scars I can understand, war torn, battle harden, makes sense...but to sit there and purposely add a mole or mark is just strange.

Neir looks good.

ZaWarudo3136d ago

I dunno but i find beauty marks attractive, usually below the corner of the eye or below the corner of the lip.

Concertoine3136d ago (Edited 3136d ago )

Seriously, Platinum is the biggest success story out of Japan, and their games don't even sell well. But here they are bombarded with contracts from Nintendo, Square Enix, Activision and Microsoft.

Why? They get good games out quick, and they have a loyal fanbase to top it off.

Ashlen3136d ago (Edited 3136d ago )

I can't believe you got so many disagree's Platinum is probably the best developer of action games out there.

I haven't played Bayonetta 2 but Bayonetta 1 is still the best playing smoothest performing with the most varied moveset game I have played.

AAA+ developer for sure.

Yoko Taro Passes Respect; Says Stellar Blade Is "Much Better" Than Nier: Automata

Stellar Blade's creative director, Hyung Tae Kim, has also claimed that the game is deeply inspired by Nier: Automata.

shadowhaxor44d ago

I feel like Yoko is downgrading Automata because he has expressed multiple times he'd like to revisit the universe, but Squenix hasn't been keen about it. We know he loves 2B and would love to take her out for another spin, so maybe this is how he gets the company to think about it.

gold_drake44d ago

u do realise that Square made Nier a franchise after Automata right?

Taro is downplaying it cause hes not a snob like most of the directors that think their games are gods gifts to the human race.

he said the same thing when being interviewed during the development of Automata too, that he couldnt have done it without the devs.

hes just a humble guy rly.

shadowhaxor44d ago

I mean, Neir existed before Automata with both OG Niers and Drakenguard. I don't count NieR Replicant, since it's a remake of the OG games. Sure, we have Reincarnation, which is still stuck on mobile devices (quite a damned shame). I just remember Taro saying he'd love to revisit Automata if Square Enix lets him. I do recall there was supposed to be a sequel to Automata, but it wasn't confirmed and I'd imagine it was just for Reincarnation.

Enjoy Taro, he seems like a cool guy, who loves the ladies and is humble. But damn, don't put down one of your masterpieces.

Cacabunga43d ago (Edited 43d ago )

I really liked Automata and cannot wait for Stellar Blade

isarai43d ago

I get he's giving them some credit, but i strongly disagree based on the demo. I honestly don't think any aspect of it feels good, it's not bad, it's just kinda ok but definitely a little jank. Also the souls like formula it is adopting does not help it imo. I was looking forward to this for years, now im just kinda let down honestly 🫤

fsfsxii41d ago

Its not a souls like, its a dmc-ish game with rpg elements. Any game with a third person camera and a sword is souls like to these buffoons

H943d ago

Man exputer can you stop putting words like that after someone's name, i read Yoko Taro Passes and just went blank

Snookies1243d ago

Same... Awful way to word that title's beginning.

exputers43d ago

Whoops. Sorry to startle you.

H943d ago

It's alright brother, maybe I am just slow

Hereandthere43d ago

Thats because Sony had a heavy hand in funding and developing this game.

purple10143d ago

They sent in XDEV one of their traveling support studios to Korea to lend a hand if I’m not mistaken, Sony pulled out the big guns to help this studio

jwillj2k443d ago

(From the demo) Stellar has better direction in terms of stage layout if you like that ninja gaiden type feel. Nier is more polished by far.

Is Square’s ethics department gonna insert themselves into this one?

CrimsonWing6994d ago

They weren’t around “last time.”

isarai94d ago

Yoko Taro doesn't play that sh!t

94d ago
Dirty_Lemons95d ago

If it can be done right then amazing, yes please. Yoko Taro seems to change it up each time so I'm curious what a 'sequel' really means.

blackblades94d ago

Either way hope he learns and give her more outfits like Stella got.

vTuro2494d ago

On a sidenote assuming this is indeed Nier 3 then I kinda wonder if Yoko Taro will stick to his guns of creating new characters and stories each time, or if he'll continue with 2B & co due to their skyrocketing in popularity. I guess he'll probably do whatever Squeenix pays him to do lol, but I'm hoping for the former. 2B and her gang got a decent enough conclusion (especially for a Yoko game) and I feel like continuing their story would ruin it.

vTuro2494d ago

Actually, now that I think about it, a new Nier game would technically be Nier 4 since the gacha Reincarnation was declared as the sequel to Automata and is therefore Nier 3.

Dirty_Lemons94d ago

Oh man, that game was a slog. Graphics and music were excellent though, and it's nice directly strongly to Automata.

Red3f1ned94d ago (Edited 94d ago )

Tifa is a good sign. There's at least some hope, lads.
Just maybe they'll leave things alone.

Plus, like people are saying - Taro don't play that sh*t.
