Project Zero: Maiden Of Black Water - Metro Review

A rare 18-rated Wii U game brings back survival horror classic Fatal Frame, but is this rain-soaked sequel just a wet squib?

so disappointed by the review scores this game is receiving, i think this game had a lot of potential

It comes down to who you trust. Edge or Metro......

pcz3120d ago

they are both highly respected british games journalists... in fact, gamecentral (Metro's game page) is a publication that has been around as long as Edge, actually mere months before Edge was launched in 1993. it started out as a teletext section.

both edge and metro are well known for no nonsense reviews. what did edge score it?

yeah, sitting at 65 currently.. so it seems like it is a little divisive. Either you will enjoy it or you wont.

There's a demo, so you can make an opinion of your own.

I played the demo and was disappointed..... For me it was the play mechanics. Very dated.

With that said I will probably still download the rest of the game at some point.

This game is a ghost of its former self.

CeX Review- Project Zero: Maiden of Black Water

Luke Kemp writes- It's nearly Christmas, and you know what that means; time for a horror game review! Specifically, Project Zero: Maiden of Black Water. It's a Wii U exclusive, which is unexpected and creepy in itself nowadays. Could this be the first game of the year which actually makes good use of the GamePad?

GamerKnights: Project Zero: Maiden of the Black Water Review

PlayDevil has reviewed Project Zero on Wii U:

Here is a snippet:

"The Camera Obscura – your one tool against spirits and spectres – can damage ghosts when it captures them on its film. Letting the ghost get closer to you, getting multiple ghosts in frame or drawing out spirit orbs and snapping them aswell all do much more damage. It’s a neat mechanic that has served the series really well, with a couple of twists in every new incarnation. In Maiden of the Black Water, the gamepad intuitively becomes the camera itself. You can hold it up and use its screen as the viewfinder and snap pictures with the benefit of three-sixty degree movement."

Project Zero: Maiden of Black Water Review - GamersFTW

Gabs from GamersFTW writes:
Project Zero: Maiden of Black Water keeps the essence of previous titles in the franchise with its setting, story, art style and gameplay, while creating fantastic atmosphere and tension. However, the combat can be fiddly, while the necessity to traverse the same location multiple times, as well as the repeated information in the story text, may leave some players with a lacklustre experience.

Great review, very thorough. Will enjoy the atmosphere but shame about the padding. Probably one to pick up further down the line.

I like how balanced this is. I really do think a lot of how you feel about games like this is to do with the attitude you go in with! :)
