Microsoft Clarifies: Halo 5 Not coming to PC

Aaron Greenberg responds to the rumors of Halo 5 coming to PC:

"This is not true. Game is being made exclusively for Xbox One."

Abash3143d ago

Aaron Greenberg also said Rise of the Tomb Raider was not a timed exclusive when it was revealed.... really, his words are the last ones I'd ever trust

lelo2play3143d ago (Edited 3143d ago )

Nop... he said that Rise of the Tomb Raider was Xbox exclusive for Christmas/Holiday 2015, and that's true.
It's not his fault that a lot of people, like you, didn't understand his meaning.

As for...

"This is not true. Game is being made exclusively for Xbox One."

... means that at this moment the game is being made solely for the X1, but it doesn't mean that later on it won't be made for the PC... or PS4/NintendoNX for that matter.

FlexLuger3143d ago

"but it doesn't mean that later on it won't be made for the PC... or PS4/NintendoNX for that matter

lol...no. Its amazing that you got two disagrees for even suggesting a sony or nintendo version. let alone a PC version.

same old shit though....everybody swears they hate xbox, but the port begging never ceases..

RedDeadLB3143d ago

@Flex

People don't hate the Xbox. PC gamers expect a Halo game on PC sooner or later since, you know, 1 and 2 were on PC. Same with Gears of War.

That's why MS needs to get their wording right. It's confusing not to know whether to expect a PC version of something or not.

donthate3143d ago

@Red:

How long did it take Gears of War to even get another game released on PC?

Even then Gears:UE is in question, because we really haven't heard anything for some time now.

The entire Gears series except for Gears 1, and Gears UE is absent on PC.

Halo only had 1 and 2, whereas we are up to Halo 5 now, and not counting Reach or ODST.

I hope Halo comes to PC later, I believe it would very beneficial to gamers and MS alike, and I think it is more likely than ever due to the close architecture, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

DOMination-3143d ago

They said its an xb1 exclusive. How is that MS putting out confusing wording?

Erik73573143d ago

Will be interesting to see Microsoft go third party....they seem to be hesitant on staying in the console business but I don't think they are going to just straight up abandon xbox one...I think we will see halo and like we are seeing gears on pc near the end of xbox one's life cycle.

4Sh0w3143d ago (Edited 3143d ago )

Yep as I said yesterday in response to someone who said Microsoft was obligated to support pc gaming= Microsoft is ONLY obligated to support the platform they OWN, -Xbox. lol, plus xbox pc games represents a very tiny fraction of Microsoft profits, they could literally drop pc support overnight and not really feel any noticeable financial loss. I hope this doesn't sound like I'm against Microsoft supporting pc, I'm only talking about the reality of business.

2nd tier support in other words a few Xbox exclusive ports, very late launch or key titles staying exclusive is all they can ever deliver for pc as long as they intend to sell Xbox consoles. It just doesn't make good business sense to put your biggest game on pc anytime soon. I mean I get it if you don't want to go buy a X1 because you have a nice pc but then you should live with your choice and understand that's the very reason Microsoft should NOT put Halo 5 on pc. I mean are pc gamers actually offended that Microsoft wants to keep their most popular title exclusive to the hardware they are trying to sell? pfft....how could a company do so a terrible thing.

Ezz20133143d ago (Edited 3143d ago )

I read many times that xbox players don't mind Xbox exclusives coming to PC?!

So what the deal now ?!

gangsta_red3143d ago

@Ezz2013

One or two people = xbox players

Makes sense /s

Xbox players still don't mind, where are you reading that they do?

4Sh0w3143d ago (Edited 3143d ago )

Nah, I don't think most X1 fans care if some games go to pc, I like when my fellow pc gamers have more options but at the same time I just point out to the "entitled pc gamers" that from Microsoft's point of view it would NOT be a smart to bring MOST of their games, especially their big guns to pc, -I mean using logic there are ONLY 2 reasons to invest in making exclusives if you OWN a dedicated home gaming console #1 Serve the existing fanbase who supported you by buying your platform & #2 As incentive for those who have not brought your platform to go out and do so. Reality is they owe pc gamers absolutely nothing as they have not invested in Microsofts platform, even buying Windows OS only obligates Microsoft to give you exactly what they gaurantee, a operating system to run your pc.

-And to your other point I think it's actually the other way around, I more often hear stuff like "its a mediocore game", "who wants to play Halo again",or "Halo without Bungie, 'meh" type comments= a bunch of downplaying until the notion of a pc port is mentioned....but that's fanboy stuff, nothing unusual, I don't know all ps fans just because salty fanboys on both sides will always downplay a great game on the other platform.

Edit,
@Ezz2013
Care to explain why Sony bringing its games to PC is impossible???

Ezz20133143d ago (Edited 3143d ago )

@gangsta_red

Do you really think i would have that comment if it were 1 or 2 xbox gamers saying that ?!
No, i said that because by looking at the disagrees here for everyone saying that it might come to Pc
or that no one believe Aaron Greenberg
it seems atleast here that xbox gamers do mind it coming to PC.

@4sh0w
Maybe ..i myself have no problem if Sony want to bring it games to PC
even though that's impossible.

EDIT: because Sony want to keep it exclusives to it consoles only....I want to see how Uncharted or TLOU or GOW or Infamous or horizon etc look and play on my PC (even though i played them all) but Sony won't allow that.

EDIT2: about what fanboys say about Halo..i'm not a fan of it since Halo 2...but i would be very wrong in saying it sucks or bad because i don't like it
people saying it's bad or mediocore are indeed fanboys you should not pay any attention to them at all.

4Sh0w3143d ago (Edited 3143d ago )

"EDIT: because Sony want to keep it exclusives to it consoles only"

-Oh I see, I thought you were implying some technicality or legal rationale with the word "impossible", but yes sony smartly wants to force you to buy a ps4 to play their exclusives, thats fine, just as it should be fine for Microsoft when the choose not to support pc with any particular title.

Ezz20133143d ago (Edited 3143d ago )

I didn't play horizon lol..can't wait for it...you get what i mean though

EDIT: yeah, there is no reason for those games not made for PC other than being "Playstation exclusives".
Lol you must have thought i would say something like :
"Uncharted 4 or The Order 1886 graphics are impossible on PC"..like what fanboys would say.

LexHazard793143d ago

@Flex....Shabba!!! Lol... Bub for well said.

3142d ago
Gazondaily3142d ago

So many dreams shattered before they even began :(

Just buy the Xbox!

sinspirit3142d ago

@ 4sh0w

Don't twist his words. He said he would like Sony games on PC. Then he stated but that is impossible. Which is a common fact CURRENTLY. Sony used to have SOE release PC only games until recent years when consoles could handle some of their free titles. But, they recently sold SOE so lucky for your argument. It's not that he wants it be impossible for Sony to release games on PC. Why are you pretending like he has double standards? Sony won't release games after SOE has left their ownership because they have a console and their competitor runs the OS which they would release those games on. For Microsoft it's a win/win aside from potential console sales losses but they could simply release games a little later for PC. Sony won't do it because PC isn't their ecosystem, even though they actually used to release games on PC with their used to be SOE studio. You took up a chance to ignorantly attack him over what you should know is a true statement. He didn't say they couldn't run on PC, or that they should not come to PC. He meant Sony has far less reason to release on PC than Microsoft does, EVEN THOUGH, and I mention this AGAIN, Sony Online Entertainment was almost entirely a PC only release Sony team until they sold the department to focus on their console.

If he said it was then it could hurt Xbox One sales a little because many people would most likely hold off for the PC version

OpieWinston3143d ago

http://www.eurogamer.net/ar...

No it's not most likely. The only way Windows 10 would have a version is if they could pull off Cross Plat. Even O'Connor was saying that.

And it won't work since Controller vs K&M is a disaster, was already tried in 360 with Gears & UT3.

That's why Halo Online is on PC, it's a combination of all the Halos MP.

_-EDMIX-_3143d ago

? Of course, but doesn't that merely mean they won't announce it until later when it sold a lot?

I mean....you do know thats why they have timed games for right?

They are just holding off until they ready to announce a PC version, its pretty clear MS is transitioning to focusing more on software for PC

freshslicepizza3143d ago (Edited 3143d ago )

you mean the same people who buy the witcher 3, fallout 4, star wars and etc. on the xbox one's main competitors console? i imagine they for the most part are the ones who make the biggest issue about this and how it will impact the xbox.

wakeNbake3143d ago

Its a big f up on the directors part for saying that days before the release of the game.

RiseofScorpio3143d ago

The execs have probably warned him to keep his mouth shut after he said that, since its contrary to their plans. You don't say stuff like that especially since O'Connor doesn't have a say in the decision.

AngelicIceDiamond3143d ago

@Bash Maybe MS didn't have the full details when they were inking in the deal last year.

user99502793143d ago

Even I have trouble believing this. The words "Xbox One Exclusive" seem not to mean much in the long term when coming from MS' top brass.

But doesn't really matter at the end of the day, so I'll just take their word for it until there is evidence to the contrary.

4 days. Woooooo.

3-4-53143d ago

Halo 5 isn't coming to PC.

The only way it will is with the next xbox or once Halo 6 has already been released.

esemce3143d ago

Yeah MS needs it's exclusives to stay on the Xbone to help sell the console.

Automatic793143d ago

Those articles were click bait. Halo 5 stays Xbox Exclusive. The MCC collection might in future go PC.

WowSoChill3143d ago

How about we all just believe it when we see it ok?

because until then we will just be arguing over some exec's cryptic tweets everyday

Crashbandicoot773143d ago (Edited 3143d ago )

So who to trust Aaron or Phil? I'll go with Phil Spencer

OpieWinston3143d ago

Frank O'Connor was the one who hinted at the possibility of Windows 10. Not Phil Spencer.

Crashbandicoot773143d ago

I remember Phil Spencer said a lot of Xbox exclusives will be coming to PC. Maybe I heard it wrong

AizenSosuke3143d ago

@Abash

Hard indeed my friend but Xbox ONE should get some exclusives though ._.

otherZinc3143d ago (Edited 3143d ago )

Of course Halo 5 isn't coming to the PC.

Why won't someone ask Andrew House & Mark Cerney if Uncharted 4 & Knack are coming to the PC?

I'd like for the biased media to ask a Sony Executive one of those stupid questions.

_-EDMIX-_3143d ago

"Why won't someone ask Andrew House & Mark Cerney if Uncharted 4 & Knack are coming to the PC?"

Because they don't have an OS to push on PC.

MS already stated they have more PC titles to announce from XONE bud.

They won't confirm it now due to not wanting to lose sales of Halo 5 on XONE, they will likely announce it around 6 months or so after Halo 5 is out.

4Sh0w3143d ago (Edited 3143d ago )

"MS already stated they have more PC titles to announce from XONE bud."

None of that suggest Halo5 is one of those titles, for all we know that could be games in the same vein as Screamride.

Also while Microsoft has a OS to push let's be honest Windows is the default OS throughout the world and it sales has virtually nothing to do with gaming and everything to do with it being tied almost exclusively to the business world and average home pc user. Either way none of that negates the fact that sony and Nintendo could just as easily sell their exclusive games(to make $$$) on pc >>IF<< they wanted to. Understandably they'd just rather go for more software sells via their platform and also sell more consoles.

They won't confirm now because they have only developed Halo5 for Xbox One. Like he said it could happen one day but its clearly not coming anytime soon as to maximize its software sales potential on X1 and maximize X1's console sales obviously. In 2 yrs maybe, hell anybody waiting over a year to play Halo5 likely isn't too interested in Halo or X1 one any way, just impulse buying it at a good price "to see what the fuss is all about"= they are not fence sitters, undecided, or "just waiting for the right time" type of gamers that Microsoft is looking to capture with this title....it all makes sense so I say why not put it on pc after its run its course on X1.

sinspirit3142d ago

@ 4Sh0w

I think we already have confirmation about the Halo on PC situation. People simply want 100% clarification. It's not a big deal but keep spinning it into some sort of hate-flame.

They've been saying, more focus on PC gaming, LIVE for Windows becoming a thing again, blah blah blah, using different terms for the same thing, etcetera. Don't blame someone for asking like it's XBox hate. It's getting old with the "edge-y" attack mode to garner the "stick it to the man.. and the haterz!" users.

xasz3143d ago

How about we hear from Frank O'Connor himself?

"Six pages for the same noncommittal answer I give every time that question is asked..."

http://www.neogaf.com/forum...
[Frank O’Connor: "There is plenty of chance that Halo 5 could appear on the PC."]

Seems like an example of people trying to make something out of nothing.

DevilOgreFish3143d ago

"Aaron Greenberg responds to the rumors of Halo 5 coming to PC:

"This is not true. Game is being made exclusively for Xbox One."

A likewise sensible decision for the console. the subject of pc has been brought up once in a while and always faces a reconsideration. It's a gamble that Microsoft should evaluate.

Azzanation3143d ago

@Abash
That's alright Abash, if you plan on waiting for the PC version of Halo 5 no one is stopping you. As for now, its only on XB1 and the game looks too good to be assuming its releasing on another platform. I wouldn't want to wait to play it just like many other gamers.

ROTR deal was correct, Greenburg was correct, TR is an exclusive for Xbox, you cant play it anywhere else. What system can you play ROTR on at launch?

ScorpiusX3142d ago

Difference Halo is natural Son , Tomb Raider is Step daughter . lol

iTechHeads3142d ago

Halo 5 is not coming to PC. This is just common sense.

Halo is only of the only reasons left to own an Xbox One. The day we see Halo on PC is the day Xbox is dead.

XanderZane3142d ago

Neither is Forza 6 coming to PC. You want Halo 5 and Forza 6 on PC, you can stream it from your XB1. Pretty simple.

The fact the director of Halo 5 said the opposite, this denial doesn't hold much weight. Especially given Halo 5 is about to release for Xbox One in a few days, Microsoft has to deny this regardless of if it's true. It would be extremely stupid not to.

DarkOcelet3143d ago

Yeah, because people will simply wait till the PC edition because up to 4k 60fps and better graphics. Or because they dont want to buy the XboxOne and that is one more reason not to buy it.

Sciurus_vulgaris3143d ago

Aaron Greenberg has a higher position at MS studios than Frank O'Connor. He has more of say on what platforms first party games release than Frank.

Famous3143d ago

I'm sure the franchise director of Halo 5 has some idea where the game will go in the future.

_-EDMIX-_3143d ago

I mean...have you not factored that Frank is saying this due to actively working on a PC port?

I'm sorry but with all the timed games BS from MS, you legit can't be this slow as to assume that some how Halo 5 is an exception.

They've stated they are going PC this gen with XONE titles, XONE titles have been announced for PC...its been stated MORE titles are on the way..

Phil has stated they are focused to selling to both platforms as suppose to seeking to sell a "plastic box" ie they are not doing exclusives to sell XONE anymore, they will port to PC for now on.

Its as clear as day and the only ones that seem to be in denial about this are fanboys. I mean...do you not see whats going on here? You guys can't be THIS blind to what is currently happening at MS...

Mind you, Turn 10 is confirmed to be working on a PC title....

They only make 1 title bud, do you really think they are not porting Forza?

Lon3wolf3143d ago

He never said it was definitely coming to PC he said it wouldn't take a lot of work to port it to PC, but nothing to announce at the moment i.e. a decision hasn't been made either way.

christocolus3143d ago (Edited 3143d ago )

Exactly. People need to learn how to read and stop making assumptions. I remember all the articles saying Sunset Overdrive, Forza and Halo MCC were all coming to PC...I guess some here are still waiting.

Sciurus_vulgaris3143d ago

People on this site have no reading comprehension.

DLConspiracy3143d ago (Edited 3143d ago )

If Halo 5 was to go PC it would be the first and newest 1st party exclusive to hit PC. Gears Of War has already sold on 2 xbox consoles and now going to PC. It's to make more money of the game. I would believe the MCC collection going to PC much more than Halo 5 ever doing it. Let's wait for MCC before we jump to conclusions.

christocolus3143d ago (Edited 3143d ago )

@Famous

He never said that. You should read his comment again

"He never said it was definitely coming to PC he said it wouldn't take a lot of work to port it to PC, but nothing to announce at the moment"

You guys love making stuff up.

Famous3143d ago

Speaking on a GamesRadar livestream recently, O'Connor said that "there is plenty of chance that Halo 5 could appear on the PC. Nothing to announce at this point, but it’s absolutely within the bounds of reason."

http://arstechnica.com/gami...

christocolus3143d ago

“We developed the game on an Intel platform, [so] it wouldn’t be the hardest thing in the world to move it to PC and take advantage of PC stuff," he added. "But nothing to announce today.”

"That's far from a confirmation, of course, especially considering O'Connor took pains to twice say there was "nothing to announce."

Those are quotes from the link you provided. so where does he say its coming to PC exactly? You claim Aaron is in denial because Frank said the opposite but the truth is Frank never said it was coming to PC in the first place.

xasz3143d ago

So, according to Frank O'Conner himself, a bunch of Halo games must already come to PC plenty of times, right? Especially sine this answer was no different than the ones he's given in the past?

10 Biggest Xbox Mistakes of All Time (So Far)

The Xbox brand has done a lot of good over the years, but their various blunders are pretty wild to look back on in their magnitude.

culturedvultures.com
piroh7d ago (Edited 7d ago )

Ironically number 9 can save them at this point (releasing games on multiple platforms)

ChasterMies6d ago

By “save them” you mean make more profit for Microsoft. Xbox will still be a dying hardware platform.

OtterX6d ago

You could add the naming scheme for the consoles, it just confuses customers. I know they wanted to avoid traditional numbering bc it would always be lower than their competitor, but this whole 360 then One then Series thing is confusing af. Imagine a Soccer Mom trying to figure this stuff out. I still mistakenly call the Series X the One from time to time on accident.

RNTody6d ago

Don't forget about the Xbox One, Xbox One X and Xbox Series X! Good luck to Soccer moms around the world.

S2Killinit6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

They did that on purpose to confuse and direct attention away from the generational numbering.

MS doesn’t like reminding people that they joined the industry after others had already been involved in gaming.

For instance, they called the xbox “360” to combat PlayStation “3” because they wanted to seem like “more” than “3”, so instead of xbox 2, they opted for xbox 360. Also this had the additional benefit of selling consoles to uninformed parents who might purchase a “360” instead of a “3” by mistake, or because they thought 360 was more than 3. Kind of a disingenuous move.

They have been continuing with their confusing naming patterns for pretty much the same reasons. Frankly, it fits with who and what they are as a brand.

FinalFantasyFanatic5d ago

I can understand their reasoning, but whoever came up with that naming scheme should be fired, bad naming schemes have killed consoles (I'm pretty sure it was the major reason for the downfall of the WiiU). They should have had unqiue names like Nintendo and Sega have had for their consoles, far less confusing for the consumer.

rob-GP2d ago

@FinalFantasyFanatic "They should have had unqiue names like Nintendo..."

lol, you mean:

NES, SNES
GameBoy, GameBoy Advanced, GameBoy Colour, GameBoy SP
DS, DSi, DSXL
3DS, 3DS XL, New 3DS, New 3DS XL
Wii, Wii U
Switch, Switch OLED

Phil Spencer is the worst that has happened to Xbox.
They built a respectable brand up to Xbox one. Then this guy took over and things became a joke

Reaper22_6d ago

He still has his job. Something you can't say about Jim Ryan.

Cacabunga6d ago

Both bad execs. One is on job and one thankfully retired.

FinalFantasyFanatic5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

I didn't like either person, both people damaged their respective brands and produced worse outcomes, but Phil did save the Xbox brand from being retired by Microsoft. Although in hindsight, he should have just let it die, rather than languish in limbo like it is now.

Rainbowcookie5d ago

Yeah but the one that was "bad" didn't even affect sales.

bunt-custardly6d ago

Phil Spencer was also on the team back when 360 was around, alongside Shane Kim, Peter Moore etc. I think the damage that did the most harm was the Don Mattrick "Always Online" console (ahead of its time basically). They handed Sony and Nintendo a free-pass when that was revealed. It went downhill from there. Then the corporate machine went into full swing to try and recover. They have to a degree as a games company for the masses, and less so for the core gamer. Outside USA, the Xbox brand does not sell as well as Japanese based consoles (citation needed).

Cacabunga6d ago

Want a decision maker. The always online and TV plans was a disaster yes, but they caught up by announcing 1st party games that gamers actually kept the hype going.. until this moron took over and introduced the PC day one release.. e all know where that ended..

S2Killinit6d ago

I dont think they were ever a respectable brand, not since the beginning, when their goal was never to be involved and share in the gaming space. I think the OG xbox was an exception because MS as a brand was still getting its foot in and so the people behind that were people of the gaming industry.

FinalFantasyFanatic5d ago

The 360 was the brand in its prime though, everything went downhill towards the end of that generation. Its staple games like Halo, Forza and Gears are what kept the console relevant and afloat for so long.

MaximusPrime_6d ago

Really good video.

I remember the days with RRoD was big news on here, N4G.

Microsoft had it turbulence number of years.

Looking at the success of Sea of Thieves despite being 6 years old, time to release Halo, Forza horizon 4 & 5 on PS5. It'll help their revenue

shinoff21836d ago (Edited 6d ago )

2 of the 4 games they did already sold really well. So it's definitely going down. Idk about halo or forza but I feel those studios they've bought in the last 5 years, their coming

ChasterMies6d ago

I found this video painful to watch. Can someone list them out?

Top 10 for me from are:
1. 2013 reveal presentation
2. Bundling Kinect 2 with Xbox One
3. RRoD or why rushing to market with hardware is always a bad idea.
4. Buying studios only to close them.
5. Ads on the Home Screen
6. Letting Halo die.
7. Letting Geard of War die.
8. Every console name
9. Charging for Xbox Live on Xbox 360 when Sony let PS3 players play online for free.
10. Cancelling release of OG Xbox games after the Xbox 360 launched.

Why all the hate? Im actually excited about this! Always wanted this kind of immersion, and an AI companion with me all the time helping me out knowing the status of my skills/inventory/progress and giving me tips on the best approach or how to craft something specific is game changing for the industry.

Hate all you want about AI, but this is just the start and I can see the potential already. You wont be complaining in the next 5-10 years about this, but rather complain if a game hasn’t implemented it.

MrDead10d ago

Yes we can't wait for the work of others to be used without the need to pay them so that MS can profit even more from the people they fire.

I_am_Batman10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

There is no chance I'd ever use something like this, especially if it's not part of the core game design, but a layer on top of it. It's way too much handholding. Many games already feel like busy work, because they don't let the player figure things out on their own. Having a real-time interactive guide defeats the purpose of playing the game in the first place in my opinion.

If this were to become the standard like you predict, we'll see more and more video games get away with bad design, because people will just be used to ask for help from the AI companion anyway.

Number1TailzFan10d ago

Well Nintendo don't need this with some of their games these days, with invincible characters, items, easy bosses etc.. they do the hand holding built in
