Do we really need a new Wii? I always got the impression that a large chunk of the people who owned one did not play it. If that is Apple's strategy, I think it will struggle. I would rather just play on my tablet.

I think chances are the Apple TV will be a long play as far as gaming goes instead of an instant success. Much the same as it took a couple of years (more like 3 or 4) for mobile gaming to become more accepted, I think ATV will be in a similar position.

The early adopters won't be buying it for gaming, but will find that it games. Then some time after that, studios might start targeting it a bit more aggressively once a few casual F2P games have hit big. Then some time after that, the more core games will also have a crack. Probably all in a similar progression to how mobile gaming eventually snowballed.

Definitely think there is a place for this, but I think it will be scoffed at for a while first.

Yep, totally. Just like the iPhone, if the Apple TV becomes a legitimate medium for games, it will be over the long term rather than the short. I imagine that the Cloud Storage limitations and the control issues will change with time, and in a couple of years, the system might not even resemble its current incarnation.
