The recent talk about how Destiny's story was completely scrapped a year before launch and the subsequent mess of a game that was released a year later punctuates a very important point; not everyone is a writer. Being a writer is not something that just everyone can do.
Destiny has made over $160 million in MTX revenue, and these numbers only account the data from late 2017 to early 2019.
That's extremely low for microtransactions, especially for a game that's essentially designed around it
For as much as ppl complain how much they hate microtransactions, they sure don’t act like it. No wonder they aren’t going anywhere.
In Episode 1 of Spot On, a new weekly news show, Gamespot talks about the dangers of chasing a trend.
Playing Destiny 1 on PC has been something fans have been requesting for years. It looks like Destiny 1 is now playable on PC via the RPCS3 emulator.
Writers are the unsung heroes of the entertainment industry and the least appreciated of all roles. You're the first to come up with and draft a story, after about 5 or more rewrites you submit to the producers and your work gets sh*t on and you're forced to change almost everything. Resubmit with your fresh revisions only to have it torn to pieces again. They don't like your second final draft and they'll treat you like an ex girlfriend that you couldn't break up with. You'll just stop getting calls and when you do get in touch with them you'll be told "you're no longer needed." Some other joker comes in, using your story as a base, and mutates the whole thing. Then, worst of all, if your story comes to fruition, you're paid, but only partially because you no longer have full writing credits.
Source: myself and a fellow writer friend. My script is currently being rewritten after receiving feedback from rejection letters and my friend's script has been "optioned" for a jokingly low price since it's his first script sold. At the academy awards, there's 2 categories for arguably the most important role, the writer, and dozens for everyone else.
TLDR: Studios will always screw the writer to appease their stakeholders. Most likely that's what happened to destiny as the story was a nonsense afterthought in the vanilla release.
Yup!
I wouldn't even say the voice acting was bad, I liked dinklebot, it was just the story that was atrocious!
A good actor can make a good script come to life, but if a good actor is given a sub-par script there is only so much they can do with it.
I bought the game on the promise of a great story, instead this is the 1st game I have EVER regretted buying... part of me wants to finish the story again with a 2nd class but I just can't bring myself to do it as I remember just how bored I was by it the 1st time lol
We still don't know what the original story was or what was in the 2 hour video. It could have been bad. Maybe they made it worse though or just didn't have enough time to finish it.
Maybe had the stuck with the original plan, it would have been even worse.
Maybe if they delayed it another year, it would have been better from the start.
Instead they had to half-ass it due to their agreement with Activision.
We don't really know. All we know from the recent info is that they didn't like how the original story was laid out. They haven't completely disregarded it because they used some of it in TK and some of it apparently will be in "Destiny 2" or whatever they call it.
Do we really need a half dozen new Destiny articles everyday after the game has been out for over a year mmm?
