The vehicle mechanics on the one coming up really are clunky.

crazychris41243117d ago

Wish we had epic ground and space based warfare in a single match in the upcoming game. Would have to be at least 64 players and probably some bots. Guess we have to hope for it in the next game cuz I doubt 40 players would be enough for such a massive battle.

Majin-vegeta3117d ago (Edited 3117d ago )

Actually in Free radicals version you could do that.Start on foot then fly straight into space.Yet with better Hardware EA couldn't do that

you mean more demanding engine? You do know that in order to do things like that they use lessor demanding engine assets not more demanding right?

Its why GTA during the PS2 days was made on renderware.

I know many seem to think that "better" means can do more, but it merely means can do BETTER and more complex, doesn't mean "more" in terms of amount or volume, just the opposite.

That is like saying if we get an engine that looks like real life, some how it should be easier to make GTA games or something lol, it wouldn't. I would make doing what they did before pretty easy, much, much harder due to the demanding engine and complexity.

For DICE to do this in Frostbite3 is not actually the same thing, its a far, far more complex task due to the level of quality we are use to from games, even in 2009, we were use to a higher level of quality.

I can see DICE easily getting this done with destruction, complex physics, textures, real time lighting etc with 1 or 2 more installments of Star Wars.

I'm not even expecting GTAVI to have every single last feature as GTAIV didn't have all the features GTASA did.

Its hard to expect that when your also looking at a new engine, more complex design etc.

crazychris41243117d ago

Yea I know it's in the video. Its running on last gen hardware, how can this not be done with current gen and PC tech?? Turn down the graphics for that game mode and it could work. I wouldn't mind, game mode would be insane.

The_Kills3116d ago

Case and point why I couldn't care less about this Battlefront. The fuck outta here with the excuses of why this was axed.

_-EDMIX-_3117d ago

@CrazyChris- lol, I know.

I'm merely saying its not marketable to most to be done that way. I"m sure DICE had that option and choose to have it at a higher quality and deliver it over time.

Sorta like how GTAIV to GTAV was.

Clearly at the time they could do more with renderware, but do you think gamers want a GTA that looks like renderware in 2013?

The want a high level looking quality game.

I get you might by that, but it was DICE's call and I think they made the right choice seeking quality vs bullet point features day 1.

They can seek that when they have their feet wet.

" I wouldn't mind" I'm sure you wouldn't either, but its again DICE's call and they want to push what they can do vs seek to keep doing the same thing on lessor quality.

I don't blame them either. I use to really, really hate how Rockstar made GTAIV, but I understood later on with Red Dead and GTAV. One shouldn't just fully expect all those features day 1 on a new set of engines, assets etc.

I'm even fine with GTAVI having less features then GTAV, if its in a new engine, pushing great quality, I'll live.

Then wait for the epic beast that will be GTAVII lol

GTAVII about to hit that FFVII level greatness!

crazychris41243117d ago

Makes sense. I'm sure will see space battles as DLC then hopefully the next Battlefront has this massive mode.

_-EDMIX-_3117d ago

@CrazyChris- likely, either as DLC or in the next game. I'm expecting the mode to be sorta like Titan mode in BF 2142.

They already have flight, so they are merely missing a setting of space so I don't see it something hard for them to do, they are likely trying to make a mode that is different enough to warrant it being included.

I don't know if we will get it as DLC unless its like air supremacy or something.

gyggyg3117d ago

Think of it this way, EA gave the game to DICE to make. They have never had experience producing such a game that is as big what you describe, and at the level of quality they are used to. Do you really think it's reasonable to expect them, (on their first attempt, with publishers pressuring them to get it done in a reasonable amount of time) that they would create a game with ground/space warfare with 64 players and bots, at a high level of quality?

It's certainly possible in a second or third game, but you need to understand the technological constraints behind this.

christian hour3116d ago

Its the very reason I'll be passing on DICE's battlefront. I'd been eagerly waiting BFIII for quite some time and couldn't wait to be fighting planetside while my buddys were up in space taking out space stations to lower defences and shields on the ground. Was heartbroken when it went under, and the leaks that came in the following weeks were salt to the wound.

I'll pick up DICE's battlefront when this mode is introduced, if not via dlc then most likely in Battlefront II. Right now, while the game does look good visually and gives me little nostalgia boners, it's not enough to make me part with cash.

I'm sure DICE wanted to include this mode, but no doubt they would have needed more time to develop, and it's obvious EA wanted this to launch as close to the new movie as possible so as to build off the buzz and excitement and generate more sales.

Fingers crossed it shows up in the next installment... Though I'll probably have aborted real life by then and be stuck deep in the galaxy of no mans sky by then, never to be seen or heard from again :)

started production 2006, cancelled in 2008 due to "marketing costs". Smh😓. It looks like it could have been an awesome game had it been finished.

Doesn't look too bad. I am still looking forward to DICE's Battlefront though. Games take time and the franchise can only get better. I fully expect there to be space battles in the next game.

_-EDMIX-_3117d ago

Agreed. I expect DICE to have better in the future of the series as they build on their current title.

The quality of that footage and the game build over all is almost laughable for 2008.

I'd rather have longer development on quality over the course of 3 games, then something low grade like that.

I get battlefront is about that concept of space and junk, but last I recall, BF1 didn't have that yet lived...

I'd rather have DICE make a few more that actually add those features but in greater quality with better function and up to date concepts.

crazyxelite3117d ago

Maybe you get as a dlc for just $50. This game is a rip off no thanks. I think everyone should open their eyes this is killing the industry.

Star Wars Battlefront 3: Is There Still Hope For A New Game?

Is Star Wars Battlefront 3 coming? Well, the correct answer is yes, no and maybe. It’s been six years since the second instalment, and fans are still waiting for confirmation of another sequel.

Game companies are not mature enough to handle this concept without turning it into a casino.

shadowknight203140d ago

The remakes of battlefront should have been more simular to the originals. CoD/battlefield reskinned as Star Wars was not the anwser.

Oh yea battlefront games were on the psp weren't they? And force unleashed as well. Great "handheld" versions those were.

Battlefront III in PSP is just Elite Squadron, was never cancelled. The start up menu is even the same same with X1 and X2.

After all these years, Free Radical's SWBF2 is still the best overall Star Wars game to me. It had everything you could want in big fun team battles, Jedi vs Sith and the space battles were extremely well done giving you the ability to land inside a capital ship's hangar to sabotage and take it down from within.

Sciurus_vulgaris824d ago

Free Radical didn’t make Star Wars Battlefront 2. The long defunct Pandemic Games developed the original Battlefront 2.

Urrakia34824d ago

Thank you sir, I appreciate the correction. Pandemic also developed Mercenaries I believe, right? That game too is a classic!

Sciurus_vulgaris824d ago

Yes, Pandemic did indeed develop Mercenaries.

ZeekQuattro824d ago

I wish that IP would make a return. The original was better but its the second one had its moments. You could pretty much level anything in those games if you had the right armaments.

This is just Battlefront Elite Squadron. Cancelling it was the right move, very few changes to Battlefront 3 except for a new forgettable campaign.
