Weren't cut-scenes pre-rendered on the PS3?

Darkwatchman3149d ago (Edited 3149d ago )

Yes

Edit: how do I get a disagree for a fact? They were using the in-game engine, but they weren't in-game. In engine and in game are completely different. They are definitely pre-rendered because they're video files and the assets were of a higher quality than the PS3 original's gameplay soooo that sounds pre-rendered to me

ziggurcat3149d ago

"how do I get a disagree for a fact?"

because it's not a fact.

pre-rendered, and in-engine are two very different things.

in-engine typically means that everything is being generated within the game's engine. pre-rendered is CGI, and those cutscenes - even in their original form - are *not* CGI, they're all using in-game assets.

and if I am not mistaken, they're using the same assets for the cutscenes as they are in game for the remasters while they just used higher quality character assets in the original games. using higher-quality assets doesn't mean that the cutscenes were pre-rendered.

also, do you even have proof that they're separate video files?

mike32UK3148d ago (Edited 3148d ago )

I think ziggurcat is incorrect. CGI is CGI. Pre-rendered means using the game engine but then saved as a video file so that it can be pulled up when needed... The downside being that the cutscene can't adapt to certain things such as what weapon the player is holding, however it's easier for the engine to start loading the next sequence of the game in the background. Real time means the cutscene is being rendered there and then in-engine

As a little side note pre-rendered cutscenes can be enhanced to make them appear better than they would in real time with extra effects/filters etc.

Toolster3149d ago

Yeah they were, just go to show how good the originals were

starchild3149d ago

Yeah, made in-engine, but prerecorded and played back as video files.

This is nice, though. I'm seeing more accurate lighting, better textures, better specularity on some surfaces (that almost looks like what you get with physically based rendering)...even some of the geometry seems to have been improved. I can't wait to get my copy and play through these amazing games once more.

Gazondaily3149d ago

Loving the work on the remaster. A proper one at that unlike God of War

Blaze9293149d ago (Edited 3149d ago )

thank you, someone who can admit that God of War 3 "remaster" was bs. I was so disappointed - I knew it wouldn't be much but it didn't feel like ANYTHING.

mac_sparrow3149d ago (Edited 3149d ago )

Having just finished the remaster this week, I feel that the gameplay textures were improved which is impressive given how good it looked already. Whether that was down to resolution or actual upgrade I'm not sure. The major flaw with it and something made even more apparent because of the new coat of paint was that the cutscenes seem to have been pulled from a ps3 retail disc. It's weird to get a cutscene that looks worse than gameplay.

Still, enjoyed it immensely.

Interesting to watch Drakes stubble.
PS3 its just a blur but on the PS4 you can see the dots.

hidekelleco3149d ago

That's because in the ps4, the blur effect is missing.Look the reviews of Digital foundry of fifa 2015 and metal gear solid 5 were the effect is missing in xbox one and is included in the ps4 as a future.
In other words the ps3 version is superior.

isarai3149d ago

No, just played the demo, blur is still there though not as heavy likely due to 60fps as blur effects can be very fps dependent. Also these are pre-rendered which had little to no motion blur to begin with

IIFloodyII3149d ago (Edited 3149d ago )

It can be enabled in the settings, only object motion blur is on by default.

So no the PS3 version isn't superior at all.

Inzo3149d ago

There is something wrong with this, there is just no way that the PS3 version looked this blurry.

MysticStrummer3149d ago

It's weird looking back at old games. They never look as good as you remember, especially the ones you loved the most. That's been my experience anyway. I was so taken aback by the MGS1 flashback in MGS4 that I bought the digital version of MGS1 and replayed it just to see the whole thing again.

Inzo3148d ago

That could be true, the thing is though I made a comparison directly after watching this and can confidently say that this video is rubbish.

jwillj2k43149d ago

I just played UC2 on PSNOW and it didn't even look this blurry. Something is definitely up.

S2Killinit3149d ago

I wold agree that both of these screens are a bit uncharacteristically underwhelming for Uncharted games. I thought it was my computer's screen.

starchild3149d ago

What's "up" is that you have a sharper version right next to it to compare it to.

S2Killinit3149d ago

yup brings back memories. (:

Resistance 3 is such a great game. One of my all time bests.

cooperdnizzle686d ago

Couldn’t agree more. Still love It as a shooter to this day.

Just something about that game. I really wish they would just do a remaster, don’t even need a remake just bring it up to todays out put, touch up a few things if any, and I am there to buy it day one.

Of course I would love a remake built from the ground up. As long as they treated it like Shadow of the Colossus, or close to those type of remake. Wouldn’t want it to get the RE treatment…. Just because the game is already paced so perfect and hits all the right beats that I wouldn’t touch that aspect.

SotC is just... indescribably fantastic. Bluepoint was on point with that one. I look forward to their efforts in Demon Souls.

LoveSpuds1428d ago

Yup, that was a fantastic treatment of the original, such a beautiful game.

LoveSpuds1428d ago

I find it hard to look past The Last of Us on PS4, it was a fantastic remaster of my favourite game of all time so I simply adored it. A game that runs it damn close though, is Odinsphere which is flipping brilliant on PS4.

There have been some seriously great remasters on PS4 now I think about it, I loved the Bioshock collection, the DarkSouls remaster was great, The Spyro and Crash remakes were brilliant, Dragons Crown Pro, Gravity Rush and Dishonoured. Some fab remasters to compliment the hundreds of great new games on this generation.
