Final Fantasy XIII Xbox 360 Asia Version Announced

During E3, Microsoft announced that Final Fantasy XIII was coming to the Xbox 360 - but only for North America and Europe. However, the Xbox 360 was not announced for Japan. Add another country to the list!

What matters is...CAN it sell? MGS2 Substance went multiplatform and it had HORRIBLE sales for the original X Box. So JRPGs are in question when it comes to American consoles. However, North American RPGs sell great on the X Box 360 bur never the JRPG games. And NO, America does not account for the world. Its WORLD WIDE sales that matter the most. Yes, I am an American.

Metal Gear Solid 2 is a horrible example. That's a game that came out on the Xbox after how many months of being available on the PS2? Mostly anyone who wanted to play that game already played it. Had it been a simultaneous release, then things may have played out differently. Maybe.

As for JRPGs not selling on the 360, then that's a matter of perspective. If you look at the fact that they haven't cracked 1 million in sales, then yes I would tend to agree with that.

However, if you take into consideration that the console has a base of about 20mil, and also that most traditional RPGs don't sell extremely well regardless of the console they are on, then you come to realize that 360 JRPGs really aren't doing as bad as some people try to claim. And yes, I'm referring to world-wide.

In the long run, what really matters is that the xbox brand has been doing a great job of expanding its genres of games this generation. No one can accurately call an Xbox console a "shooters" console.

MSFT is going to announce FF13 for the 360 depending on the show they're at and the market/region their in, I mean come every single show they have left this year FF13 will be announced for that market(TGS 08 should be interesting).

SE wants to compete with the other Japanese devs as they stated months before the reported deals between MSFT and SE took place.

I think the only thing that is final, is the fact PS3 will see FF13 "IN JAPAN" first.

Even with the ps3 being lead platform no doubt it'll have poorer framerate, delays, lower res, need for constant patches, higher price.

and thats if the ps3 survives the countless firmware updates to solve the previous update that bricked the console once you got it back from sony after the last update bricked it, ylod, code of death, faulty BD drive.

a) 1 year before. like bioshock, like so many ports are released earlier on 360, like so many ps3 exclusives are delayed.
b) on 1 BD. Not an issue if it comes on more than 1 dvd. only to you. lost odyssey=not an issue, blue dragon=not an issue. Now you can't comment on if it is for these games as you don't have a 360 or these games.
c) on reliable hardware. not so reliable. Every hardware fails, ylod, code of death, hows the patche...firmwares going.
d) with FREE online. what multiplayer is there in ffXIII? cross game chat is free on live so you can have your free online but unless there's multiplayer it's useless. And i've heard ps online features are that compared.
e) with FFXIIIv on PS3 and FFAgito on psp(IF you want to feel FULL experience of FFXIII world - get PS3/psp). no thanks. I'm not a multi-millionaire. or even interested in those games.

h) with no compressed textures and sound. are you a developer in the game? oh you read the rage article about possible compression (never said they would) and think it applies to every game. History tells us in ports the ps3 version is lower res so even if it does have higher compression (big IF there) it will probably be higher res anyway. But as you don't like living in the here and now you prefer the hypothetical "next year it will work, next year we will win" you can keep living in the fantasy land of false hopes, missed release dates, and failed promises that sony have moved you into.

The time it takes to move on from Chapter 1 to Chapter 2, you can switch discs 20 times over and still have time to make yourself a cuppa tea. What kind of advantage is that? Arcade are for families. You know that right? thats who its sold to. So they won't care about installs. As the dvd drive doesn't slow load times down unlike..

Actually ps3 exclusives need years upon years to get developed to look that good. Yet the 360 gets similar results from a dev time of less than half. Imagine if they spent the same amount of time on a 360 game. You can't because you're biased and devs don't need to.

No madatory installs, optional installs, online system thats the leaders, faster read times, better gpu, better controller, less delays, faster development times, an architecture thats design for gaming, a cpu that was designed for gaming and not for multimedia (look it up) higher install base, higher ww software sales, higher ww hardware sales (look it up)

Acually PS3 Bluray 50 Gig Dual Layer ,not a single 25, is Faster than the 360 Dvd drive (last generation,cant believe your defeneding it) if used properly. Explain how UNCHARTED (Single 25 btw) has no installs, minor loading times,And graphics that 360 will never have.

ALL the multi Disc games on the 360 are RPGs. Rpgs are not the same as a shooters.

And please dont compare GEARS of War 2 to KILLZONE 2. Show how clueless you are. IF anything compare it to Resistance 2 and Killzone 2 to cyrsis. Gears Of War(and the same goes with GEOW2 from what we seen) has that cheap plastic texture feeling compared to Killzone 2.

Understand their culture first dude. Taiwanese do not play english games. In fact they are very bad at English as well. And they do not like games that are english dubbed. So if SE is going to release an English version of FF13 there then they just screwed themselves upfront before the game even get release. As not much ppl there would be interested. They only play games that stay in their original language which is japanese and they dont like games that are being dubbed into english fyi. So I agree with the the article says. If the game come in Japanese language. Or Jap + Chinese Sub while there isnt region lock. Then its also a good news for japaneses owners as they probably can import this to play given that they dont have one that release in their own region. If they choose to release a jap version for Taiwan which is the usual case over the years where most of their asia games are usually in jap language. The same theory would apply to people in Hong Kong too where most of them would prefer the game to remain in its original dubbing and not translated. Just in case you didnt know, MGS4 that are being sold in Taiwan and Hong Kong are mostly jap version and not english. So please learn this before commenting.

I've gone to Singapore, Japan and Hongkong, which are on the apex of Asian nations with regards to global purchasing power. They're pretty wealthy countries so most the middle class people up to the filthy rich guys could afford a 360, if thats you're argument there. For these these guys its just a matter of preference if they'd want a 360, not its affordability. The Final Fantasy XIII announcement for "Asia" really isn't such a big deal because the only major Asian market for video games is Japan and as long as Japan doesn't (and wont) get FFXIII, it will have little to no effect at all.

When it comes to Final Fantasy, the PS3 still holds the advantage because Final Fantasy versus XIII is still a PS3 exclusive, and anyone that wants to play both next-gen Final Fantasy games will HAVE to buy a PS3 regardless.

The title says Asia...so they're slowly making progress in Asia. Soon, there will be versions localized to several different territories. Of course I'm getting the North American release, and since Squeenix has made this title available to 360 owners, I will be getting the 360 version.

Apocalps3 is absolutely right, more platforms equal more revenue equal more titles. If all games would release on the same system, planning releases wouldn't entail any sort of "timing" or "regional appeal". But, with the latter if a WHOLE region doesn't like the machine (or just hasn't adopted to it yet) then it's not going to sell there until the company establishes better reputation and does its research in the consumer interests.

360 may not have been a huge seller in Japan but it's getting there. And Squeenix making the decision to release 360 versions of this game in certain territories means that they see 360 as a way of getting a hold of more gamers.
