uh oh, I feel like the score is a bit low for what you didnt like though. If the gameplay is good and the world is good (to most) i dont think the game gets a 6.5. Based on what you said i would give it at least a 7.

My worry is how cool the world will actually be? It sounds like there are a couple main settlements & then an endless expanse of desert. Could be cool for a car combat focused game but for my tastes i like a proper world to explore vs. A literal sandbox devoid of much in the way of character. I may be off but I haven't seen much of an interesting environment in the trailers, just a lot of swirling sand. It works for Mad Max because there's a directed story and action to be had, but it may not keep attention for long in a game setting if the story is minimal. Loved Fury Road but as far as games go my money is on JC3 being the better of the two by a stretch.

Im not gonna say its GOTY or even good without playing it but this is obviously a middle market game which the press has been unfit to judge since around the middle of last gen. Solid games like Singularity, Metro 2033 or Alpha Protocol were also painted scores like 6.5 or 7 simply because they aren't suicidally expensive to produce like AAA games these days.

It's pretty obvious it would over shadow it. I think many many people thought that when the release dates were announced. Doesn't mean it will be completely drowned out still. And, after 1 review we can still wait to hear more on it.

I will wait until i've seen a number of reviews before making judgement on Mad Max.

A game review should be based on the game alone, not whether its coming out around the same time as some other game.

Glad I'm not the only one who can't really deal with stealth games. I always bite my tongue around here in regards to games like MGS because it seems to be the gospel of gaming for many folks. I totally respect that game and others like it, but I don't have the patience or the time for stealth so i always take the guns blazing approach, which is nearly impossible in a Metal Gear game. Tried that in the very first 10 minutes of Ground Zeroes & was swiftly killed so I turned it off.

I think TLOU was the best balance of the mechanics because it was forgiving enough and the pacing was just right to where I'd actually do a few encounters stealthy and actually have fun with it, which is huge for a gamer like me. More power to the people who can play and beat Metal Gear games, but I ain't one of em.

Stealth plays a bigger role in MGS so i probably wont play it, i'm sure fans of the genre are gonna love it though.

I know they stuck with the material and made mad max open world feel like mad max but I feel like they should have added some gaming tweaks to make the world more interesting

This has been my problem with avalanche since day one, they will give you an open world and some tools but nothing else.

The gunplay in just cause 2 was so weak, it had no story what do ever but it did give you an open world and tools for destruction

And if you expect the same in just cause 3 Tha you won't be disoppointed but if you are like me and want to see improved gunplay and better story than it won't be as much fun

Have received my copy of mad max and mgs early and while the game is not as good as metal gear (which is fantastic,) it's still a lot of fun. Plays very much like batman but the fight mechanics aren't as tight. I would rate it around a 7.5 so far.

I would take this review lightly though since this may be rushed. Review copies just arrived anyway so getting it out this quickly may be a bit wrong. Take this rating as a base and see how it will be evaluated by all of the people in the next week or so.

As Auntie would say 'Bust a deal face the wheel.' This game could give you the flu and I'd still buy it. I'm a Mad Max fanboy- and ever since that abysmal NES game I always hoped someone would give the Wasteland another go.

I'm not expecting this game to reinvent the wheel. I just want car chases and explosions and maybe a Lord Humongous cameo as he unleashes his dogs of war.

I'm a Mad Max fan as well and I was looking forward to this, but after watching a few streams I won't be buying until it gets much cheaper, if I buy it at all. I was getting MGS5 first anyway, but I wasn't impressed with what I saw of this game for the most part so this score doesn't surprise me.

Not really. it was actually a great game. The criticism of the game was based on practically the same things used against it before it was launched. (too short; not innovative; like a movie not a game) All criticism was utterly unfair and fused with double standards. While playing it myself, I thoroughly enjoyed it. For one thing, it was the most beautiful game I had played in the current generation.

I was speaking to a dude last night that got the game early and he said the game is pretty good and there is loads to do and the map is huge, but also heard it can be quite empty at times, im gonna get it none the less.

The photo mode for one, you can take the hud off, give it the same look as Fury Road and play the film.

The car combat and driving is fun and i haven't even hit any of the upgrades yet.

Come to think about it...most games are kind of repetitive. GTA 5 is the same. Get money from here, kill this person, and so on. But since it is a modern world...so many more ways to choose how you perform the mission. In a wasteland, I don't believe there is much to do...it's a wasteland. So as long as you go into the game with Mad Max and an empty wasteland in mind....I believe the score goes up a point or two. Can't wait...tomorrow is the day!

That's a good point. Shadow of Mordor had a poor story, and was technically very repetitive. Didn't stop it from being tied for my favorite game that year. Got the Platinum and enjoyed the hell out of it. There really wasn't much you could DO in the world. So if Mad Max is fun to run around in(like SoM) that will be enough for a lot of people. You know, having fun.
I'll be waiting on this one, simply because I'm already tearing through Danganronpa on Vita, and will be diving into Metal Gear as soon as it unlocks. I'll picked Mad Max this winter if it winds up being something I'm interested in.

I cannot wait for tuesday, i get to watch the movie finally, then bust into this game. MGS 5 will be right after wanna get to play the first couple hours of both and see after that which i will finish first.

I got the game for 19$ so i couldnt pass it up. My 970 is ready! Im actually excited for the game, the streams i watched seemed like the story will be awesome, and the world was definitely quite beautiful with some amazing storms.

People buy games because they read a review from someone elses opinion and take that as Gospel.

I think a video of gameplay is much better than typed words as you get to see how the game plays in action rather than believe the author of a games magazine/blog with no video to back up their opinion.

I'd definitely go off of what I see with my own two eyes rather than take the word of a stranger lol. I just read reviews but I've never let them determine my purchase, would've missed out on some very good games over the years if I did that. People have to understand that reviews are just someone's opinion. Experiences vary. I follow the games I'm interested in from the moment they're announced all the way up to release and I've never been disappointed yet. When you do the research you know what you're getting and you can make a sound decision. I'll do my own damn reviews.

If games were movies i would 100% agree. But you can't judge MAJOR parts of the games like gameplay through a video. You don't feel good/bad controls through a video, or feel the pressure of controlling character (for example, in stealth/horror) by yourself through a video.

Metal gear solid dont even have ragdoll physics or animations of tire tracks left in the dirt, but that game will get a 9 or more just because of the history and story. I play games that have good gameplay, and Mad Max has good gameplay and alot of things to do. Tho it may be repetative, but all games are. The game is better then MGS hands down! I totally agree with WitWolfy. Too many is exactly the word for us players with limited time to play is saying. I just finished AC: Black Flag 2 weeks ago, before that I finished Bloodborne, before that I'm trying to knock out 100% completion on GTAV, but I also needed to finish Far Cry 4 so I finished both those up.

Right now I'm currently in No Man's Land- Velen on The Witcher 3 currently a level 14. MGSV coming out tomorrow...............As much as I love the series (I have all the blu rays, and I'm waiting for Fury Road to come by UPS) I may have to wait down the road a ways. Maybe by then I'll need some more open world.

Too many games. Sept. 1 - MGSV:PP, Oct. 9 - Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, Oct. 23 - AC: Syndicate, Nov. 6 - CoD: BO3, Nov. 10 - Rise Of The Tomb Raider, March 16' - (probably delay though) Uncharted 4. These are all the games I have preordered and already paid in full.

Not saying Mad Max is a bad game by any means, but with all the greatness coming out with it or around it, it's just plain Moto Storm to me for now.

This review seemed pretty accurate based on the hour or so of gameplay I watched over the weekend. I love open world games like Fallout and Elder Scrolls, but this game seemed to get very repetitive after 30-40 minutes of watching gameplay, and story missions seemed really lacking in substance; they're pretty much fetch quests. With the movie video release the same day and Fallout 4 incoming, I think this was a rushed job, and I think the more mainstream reviews are going to average around 6.5 to 7 out of 10 for this game, alike this review.
