dont forget that you can change the controls to whatever you want them to be through the PS4's accesibility options. Try it out. But remember, those are global settings meaning they'll change for every game. So you'll have to change them back.

You're right, under 30 fps isn't good enough but the reason it gets a pass is because the good in the game far outweighs the bad. Along with the fact this proved framerate doesn't matter as much in some games as it does in others. Yeah sure, it didn't look as nice when it dips, but tell me how this effects gameplay at all.

Ryse dipped into the teens too. Difference was that was an action game where steady framerate does matter. You want to do an apples to oranges comparison and then are surprised they taste different? Probably no one is mentioning it because no one noticed it.

It's noticeable for sure, but it doesn't interfere with the gameplay nor the experience at all. It's not a fast paced shooter, it's basically an interactive movie. And movies are most of the time 24fps.

Still the best game I played in a long time and definitely the best of its genre hands down.

It has nothing to do with the fact its a PS4 exclusive. The gameplay is mostly QTE and making chooses. Things that aren't really affected by framerate. As long as the gameplay isn't affected people tend to ignore it.

It's a little surprising but it does sort of feel like a movie and those are 24 fps. The cut scenes did feel a little choppy when I played. Especially when they moved fast like running.

I read some of the comments and I thought did they deliberately do that to make it more film like but no, that's not the case. The framerate fluctuates, is not set low. Whatever framerate they choose they need to sit on it and if you choose 30, it should be rock solid. Not really good enough but it's by no means a game breaker either.

Visual it's a great-looking game. I am surprised to see such large frame dips though. It isn't terribly noticeable on-screen most of the time, but I am quite surprised it's having difficulty staying steady. Supermassive's first PS4 game, so maybe it was a learning experience.

For people who own the game, is it worth it? That is, rent, buy soon or wait for a price drop/used copies? I won't be getting it in the immediate future with MGSV and all, but I am interested in knowing your thoughts. I've been on the fence about it, but if that's as bad as the frame drops get, that's fine. It still runs sufficiently.

But FPS is tied directly to gameplay, there is no way around this. The Last of Us on PS4 4 allows players to choose a 60 fps "unlocked" or a 30fps "locked" setting in the options.

While obviously this game cant handle a stable 30fps there have been console games in the past that allowed you to disable things such as anti aliasing. It isn't hard to implement and would be a welcomed feature.

Jagged edges I can ignore they have no bearing on gameplay whatsoever. Stuttering on the other hand I cannot.

Extra point: Look at The Walking Dead and tell me that game had a good framerate when it came out last gen. TWD ran like trash when it first released, Until Dawn runs much better in comparison. TWD lagged horribly.

Sony fans don't care about gameplay, what matters is only if they have 1080p bragging rights over the X1 fans. I have both systems but play mainly on PC because I want higher resolutions AND a high framerate. Any game that can't handle 30fps is pathetic. Racing and fighting games under 60fps is a complete joke. Somehow gameplay doesn't seem to matter to consolers this generation.

The real proof is multiplatform games, games that appear on both PS4 and xbone. Compared to xbone multiplatform games run either the same framerate/resolution on PS4 or better, but never worse on PS4.

Many multiplatform games run at a higher framerate on PS4 with the same or better resolution. I could list the games like Tomb Raider, Warframe, Murdered Soul Suspect ect that run at 60fps on PS4 but only 30fps on xbone. The list of games that run 1080/60 on PS4 and sub 1080/60 on xbone is huge. Your bias claims that PS4 can't handle 60fps are utter bs. PS4 has more 60fps games than xbone.

Sony is obsessed with making excellent games that are visually impressive. Resogun, Warthunder, TLoU, Rocket League, Ethan Carter, Blacklight, Journey, GoW 3, MLB The Show, Uncharted 4 (mp) ect all run at (1080p) 60fps bc that's what was best for those specific games. Driveclub, The Order, 2nd Son, Until Dawn ect run sub 60fps bc that's what was deemed best for those specific games. How many people complained about the visuals (including framerate) in DC, The Order, & 2nd Son? On the contrary people raved about the visuals.

Extra point: Until Dawn is a cinematic game meant to emulate a horror film. Movies are 24fps, the need for an ultra high framerate in a game like this is unwarranted. The framerate in Tell Tale games is far more stuttering and inconsistent. I don't recall framerate being a major point of emphasis in reviews either (for Until Dawn). As well, the game is being patched and is less than a week old. People love Until Dawn.

When playing Until Dawn it feels very good and the overall experience is wonderful. For a new ip with so many choices and such a progressive butterfly effect system it actually runs pretty well at launch. Until Dawn overall is a terrific game with fantastic gameplay and an inconceivable amount of meaningful choice.

have to downgrade it to lock it. From what I've seen there is nothing to complain about it's a story driven game with majority of time played cut scenes. Watched a few people stream and they only seem to notice frame drops a few times, also the game is so slow that it's harder to notice compared to a fast paced racer or shooter. During some cutscenes I did feel it went below 20fps on quite some few occasions. It's not that problematic, but leaves a bad aftertaste, as if watching a lower quality film.

it played fine, only thing that bugged me was the characters eyes lol ( sometimes they looked like they had lazy eyes or was looking at something else) but i didnt notice my game crashing or freezing.

Killzone Shadowfall's engine pushed the PS4 hard when it launched, and it's still doing it. My PS4 sounds like a blow dryer playing Until Dawn.

From the video the framerate remains fairly solid and close to 30 FPS. Last gen we would've called it a masterpiece for a game to be solid 25-30 all the time. For some reason people expect 30+ everytime this gen.

I have always said that any game that is around 30 or greater FPS has no framerate issues in my view. This one dips a bit, but I don't think it is really noticeable.

Well gameplay and performance should go hand by hand, take The Witcher 3 as an example, a game with great gameplay, story, enviroments etc. affected by bad performance, the game its almost unplayable on certain areas.

I just watched the video and the frame drops are pretty clearly noticeable, like when they go out into the snow. And, no, if a game has bad performance, it absolutely needs to be judged partially on it. For a week or two, Witcher 3 was near constant 20 FPS on console, and, during that time, it was highly advisable to not buy it or play it, because bad frame rate negatively affects the experience on the entire game.

The Witcher has very different gameplay mechanics to Until Dawn.

So on the same token, since this is really just the start of the generation and many have given Microsoft's Graphics problems for resolution a certain leeway, would that Also apply to Sony about being able to further refine their tool chains to gather better results with the tools they use?

This game was not made with the recent update included..so I'm sure that would be a performance hit for games just now releasing with not been able to take advantage of the new Api updates. Like it could Infact be able to be patched to fix the frame rate dips.

Actually you are wrong, this game is a character based story driven game, this sort of game thrives on the amazing graphics, character animations and voice acting, all far more important, the framerate in this game is fine for the type of game it is, all the positive reviews prove that.

Yes, correct, ..and those are 2 different studios both respectively good. Under your presumption you act like every studio is the same and should reach the same bar with differently skilled employees and different budgets and sizes of resources.

The game engine alone plays a massive part in this. It isn't so clean cut as you put it. One engine might be more optimized.

If the technical side of the studio says listen. At best we are walking and solving puzzles while the experience itself is based of decisions and graphical fidelity. If we keep this game between 20 and 30 fps we can use those resources in other area's like affects or texturing, More lod, Draw distance etc.

This same thing is used in inverse when an xbox game needs to go from 900p to 1080p with a patch cause fans demand it. They typically need to cut assets in some shape to get that resolution. This mostly comes to using technologies that dynamically cut/add based on the resources needed. Mostly this generation its dynamic scaling or MSAA.

Now with the amount of resources the PS4 has there is and it's no secret it has more then the Xbox One. This same very game, would be 15fps minus on the one regardless. I would rather have a game that doesn't really need 60fps and still plays fine then not at all.

As someone who is in the computer science world its clear cut your premise is based of a misunderstanding of how games are built and what goes into it.

Its really starting to be apparent people want the Parity's between both platforms to be the standard , because some just refuse to acknowledge that the higher specked hardware cannot and will not have a gap because of how its not that much more than what Microsoft is offering.

Well let's just see what Sony does with their graphics Api's, and development tool chains, OK because it seems many gamers seem to give Microsoft the benefit of the doubt for DirectX12 and its advancement for Xbox one , but those very same gamers do not want to give Sony such leeway.

I'm sure if Sony did what you are implying, many here would than point out see there really is no power difference and this proves it.

UD was not even a PS4 game at 1st it was being made for the PS3. So again we have heard over and over again how such and such game did not get the benefits of DirectX12, but it seems if you point out that very same idea that Maybe this game did not benefit from the new Api tools for the PS4 its now ..oh no that cannot be it, god forbid that there is no way that could be the issue.

Again you asking or even Implying Sony not to advance its drive for better resolutions for its game, over what you stated about performance? What you do not think Sony can get performance and high resolution out of the PS4. And I asked you that very Question and its you who are deflecting, by saying this is not about Microsoft.

OK let's than take Microsoft out of the equation. Can Sony have High 1080P 60/fps games on the PS4 hardware?
It seems many such as your self do not seem to think so , because why else would you want to limit the advancements for the PS4 platform.

The fact you even implied that Sony needs to allow developers to choose less than only 1080P as in forced proved to me you are just Muppeting that this is a PS4 hardware issue. And that your again implying the PS4 performance is not going to grow.

Frames are pretty bad...but this game is great for gaming, I hope it sells very well so we can have many more movie/QTE games. Maybe it will become a new form of popular entertainment where everyone in a movie theater watching/playing the same movie game can make a choice and the outcome is determined in vote form. Maybe they already have that...

Funny, how console gamers say that low fps is fine, because movies run at 24 fps. The frame rate is awful in this game and it would a deal breaker for sure for me.
