Digital Foundry vs Gears of War: Ultimate Edition

DF:
In some respects, the fact that the Ultimate Edition remains so faithful to the original may actually wind up being one of its weaknesses. Gears of War was basically the progenitor for the cover-based shooter of the last generation, but a lot has changed since its debut, and as a result, its gameplay may feel dated for some. On the other hand, it preserves everything that was core to the experience, while bringing many of its most dated elements into line with a modern, current-gen release and as an overall package, it works. We enjoyed it a lot and feel that it's a highly worthy remake, but with its gameplay elements firmly rooted in the past, it may not be for everyone.

"In some respects, the fact that the Ultimate Edition remains so faithful to the original may actually wind up being one of its weaknesses."

I loved the original in all its rough-edge glory so that's a plus for me.

"A full on remake"

Really good video, a testament to just how good the original was and how much they were able to improve upon it 9 years later.

Well done.

I'm lovin it. Gears 1 multiplayer was always my favorite in the franchise. The visuals are stunning considering the original came out a decade ago. The Coalition did a great job. Best remaster I've played by a mile.

People will disagree with you. But I would take your word because you are on my friends list on the PS4 and XB1. I have seen your activity feed and I know which remasters you've played. Thanks for the honest and unbiased post.

Thanks. I'm really impressed by this remaster. Been playing through the campaign on insane with my brother. I've been switching back and forth between this and Until Dawn. Just biding my time until MGS comes out next week. Until Dawn is pretty good to if you like those types of games. Luckily I'll play just about any genre as long as the quality is there.

Watching the video got me hyped to jump back in. Damn the UK release dates.

Turned of the gore on my kids Xbox and playing it with him on co-op. Played this one so much with the wife when he was little, he is loving the campaign. "I can see why you loved this game so much" he tells me last night lol

Use a credit card if you are kinda leary. Not a debit card.

Are keys legit or will Sony unleash ban hammer

ElementX1615d ago

I've heard they're bought with stolen credit card numbers. The person gets the transactions reversed because it was stolen, but the "seller" gets the game codes to sell on CDKeys and other grey market sites.

The issue with these sites is that 'some people' buy keys in sales with stolen credit cards, then you buy the game from them...Then the company get the chargeback so it actually costs the game company money. I'm not convinced this is a vast majority though as pretty sure if it was a fraud site it woud just be closed down. Only issue I've had with an invalid key was for splinter cell blacklist for 38p. Pretty sure that is penny fraud. i.e. most people won't bother disputing as it's not worth it.
