DriveClub vs Project CARS Patch 3.0 - Rain Effects Comparison

Youtube MotoGamesTV Has post new video shows new Rain Effects Comparison between DriveClub and Project CARS.

darKsoul33197d ago

wow Huge improvement on PCars!

Bigpappy3197d ago

Yep. PC has the better water physics this time around.

CryofSilence3197d ago

Project Cars still has predetermined rain patterns that aren't influenced by physics. Watch the left side of the windshield at 50 seconds. It's very definitely improved, but it isn't quite up to DriveClub yet.

PrinceOfAnger3197d ago

when moving project cars looks better in my opinion.

Muerte24943197d ago

The rain physics are superior in Driveclub. Around the :22 mark you can see both cars in idle. Notice the build up of water running down the windshield. @ the :24 sec mark you see how both cars in motion. You clearly see the buildup now moving off the windshield to the left. PC still has a static animation for both idle and in motion. It doesn't appear like the windshield whippers are actually affecting anything. It just like a rinse and repeat of the jet sprayed water followed by three streaks after the whipper passes.

nveenio3197d ago

PCars is better than it was, but it's just a fade in/out of the same pattern on the edges of the windshield.

Dee_913196d ago

the rain is equally impressive on both imo. gg SMS. You can't claim that the differences make one better than the other, its all subjective people.

@TRU3_GMA3R Despite project car graphic have great improvements, DC still looks natural to be honest.

ATi_Elite3197d ago (Edited 3197d ago )

Ok if you are not old enough to have a driver's license and or have never driven a car in the rain then your opinion is strictly fanboyism.

Project Cars rain looks better by a country mile. In motion the rain runs up the windshield just like in real life.

I did not see that properly done on Driveclub.

End of story

Oh wait looks better, not more realistic?

Oh big pretty Hollywood rain drops well then Driveclub by a country mile even the physics are wrong. Lol

kayoss3197d ago

The way the rain falls on the windsheild in project looks very un-natural to me. If you watch the Drive club clip, as the windshield wipes away the droplets. You can clearly see the rain building up on the side but at the same time the droplets doesnt just appear all at once. In Project cars, the droplets just all Pop out all at once.

OhMyGandhi3197d ago

cool, so you have rigid little water snakes scampering up the windshield of your car in real life?

Driveclub still looks better, but Project Cars made big improvements as well.

Clunkyd3197d ago

@ATi

You're not fooling anyone. We all know DC looks better. Seems like youre salty that your precious PC platform couldn't keep up with DC visuals. LOL

someOnecalled3197d ago

Is it funny that the only thing you ever hear about DC is the rain effects. Matter fact with a lot of PS exclusives you only tend to hear about the gfx and nothing else except when it comes to ND and SM studio games.

OhMyGandhi3197d ago

Matter fact!
love that show.

IamTylerDurden13197d ago

Driveclub is far better with actual physics based rain, the water moves according to how you turn the car. In p cars the water is on s loop, in Driveclub it's dynamic.

In Driveclub the track dries depending on sun, cloud cover, and temperature.

Driveclub wins.

I think Driveclub still looks better. But PC Patch 3.0 looks great as well

The_BlackHeart__3197d ago (Edited 3197d ago )

Getting closer to DriveClub. But DC still looks better.

Edit: I think is the lighting and how DriveClub treats each drop like if it was its own element

GorillaSceptre3197d ago

Now wheres the FPS comparisons?

As great as DC looks, they did make sacrifices to do it. It's not really fair to compare them.

FoxyGotGame3197d ago (Edited 3197d ago )

FPS Comparisons?? Why are you attempting to derail the actual point? It is a Driveclub VS Project Cars 'Rain' effects Comparison, not Framerates nor Polygon Counts nor Car Tuning Options.

Will it ruin your day if I said Driveclub rain effects look better?

Why don't you make your own DC vs PC comparison video ....and don't to be such an obvious Troll /

GorillaSceptre3197d ago

Because there's been countless articles on this site about DC's graphics. I've yet to see one that brings up the frame rate.

look at the post below " Its nice to see people trying to emulate Drivclub" DC runs at HALF the frame rate of the other racers it's compared to.

PC is also rendering far more physics, it's a sim. But that's not important right? No, whats important is rain drop physics /s..

All i'm saying is these articles are acting as though these games are on the same level, but DC also has better graphics on top of it. That is completely false.

I don't think you know what trolling is. At first i wondered why you were so riled up "??". But then i saw your name.

someOnecalled3197d ago

Don't even try this is one of the few things this game do good. Everything else is just average. Anything painting a PS exclusives in not a groundbreaking way will be dismissed and bashed. Last gen a racing being under 60fps was garbage to PS fanboys now 30fps racers with extra eye candy is gold.

Spotie3197d ago

As high as PC's framerate is, they did make sacrifices to get to it.

Trying too hard to discredit DriveClub, don't you think?

GorillaSceptre3197d ago

Trying hard? Really?

This sites community is really something else..

I've played both, PC is a sim, not an arcade racer. They are both decent in their own ways, but a graphics comparison just isn't fair.

Spotie3197d ago

It actually makes sense to compare the weather effects.

It makes NO sense to compare the framerate in this example. And it makes even LESS sense to expect it.

Clunkyd3197d ago (Edited 3197d ago )

@Gorilla
Man, you're one salty mofo are yah. LOL

It's not the end of the world, you dont have to throw a fit because they talk positive things about an exclusive game on a platform you dont prefer.

Move on.

The difference is clear that Drive club is better, the rain drops of water on Pcars just pop up while Drive club is more natural

60FPS on PS5: Unofficial PS5 'FPS Boost' mods are radically improving PS4 back compat

Digital Foundry : Whether it's via FPS Boost or bespoke software upgrades, backwards compatibility on the current-gen consoles delivered an unexpected delight - the ability to liberate older console games from their 30fps limits, running them at 60 frames per second or even higher. FPS Boost did the business for Xbox Series consoles on an impressive range of titles, but there was always the sense that PS5 could do more. It's a hunch that checks out as a range of frame-rate unlocks are available for PS5, covering many must-have games - the major caveat being that only exploitable consoles running on older firmwares are invited to the party.

you love to see new life being breathed into older titles but damn the process to get there. It should be automatic that these work for everyone... not just those who exploit their systems. Really wish Sony and MS would keep this program going officially.

Psychonaut85130d ago

Damn this sucks. I want this shit so bad, but I’m not jailbreaking my console. And frankly I shouldn’t have to. I’m not a tech person, but is it really that hard for developers to unlock the framerate? Or would that have to be a large patch?

dveio130d ago (Edited 130d ago )

"but is it really that hard for developers to unlock the framerate?"

I guess it's not.

But it has become a profitable business if you do so.

So no one would pay for only the framerate patched to being unlocked. So studios need to offer more than that.

But this would take more time, polishing and would cost more money. So they shy away, but won't unlock the framerate, either.

That's just my personal assumption. But from what I can comprehend technically, it shouldn't be difficult to unlock framerates via a patch for older games.

... if it hadn't became a business.

RaidenBlack130d ago (Edited 130d ago )

frame-rate unlock should be free ...
We've seen many devs offer free patches and updates to pretty old PC titles, even bonuses ... so why can't devs offer the frame unlock patch for free (in consultation with the platform-producers) for a title from just a generation earlier?

Einhander1972130d ago

RaidenBlack

"frame-rate unlock should be free ..."

Obviously the result of that thinking is that developers aren't even going to do it.

If they had been allowed to charge $5-10 you would see incentivized developers doing it way more often.

People just always want everything for free, but it's not free to make the patch, people have to code it then other people have to test it, and there will always be other costs involved.

If people want dollar store gaming then expect to get what you pay for.

shinoff2183129d ago (Edited 129d ago )

Raiden I might be wrong but last I thought it cost money to put patches out on consoles.

As far as me paying for it, I'm not all that interested tbh. Not enough to pay for it with older games, and newer games have been pretty decent about it for the most part.

dumahim130d ago

Sounds like the modder has to go in to make changes to unlock it on a game by game basis. "Simple" enough to do it unofficially, but to have it done officially, they need someone to go in a make that change, put out a patch and put it through certification, which I believe is not necessarily a cheap thing to do. It's questionable if going through this would then give them enough sales to make it worthwhile.

Inverno130d ago

Many games still have physics tied to framerate, i think it's cause they wouldn't want to go in and do anything extra. Then there's the 10 dollar upgrades they rather charge. The problem is that there's no compromise, cause if I could mod my PS4 and all I'd lose is online play then id jailbreak it immediately. Mods have done so much for PC games and they could do the same for consoles, but manufacturers hafto be willing to compromise.

shinoff2183129d ago

It's not to hard to do and there's youtube videos that break it down really well. ANyway most of us here arent able to break are console anyway due to being up to date on firmware from playing

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 129d ago
Chocoburger130d ago

Yep, this sucks having to require a jailbreak for something that should be standard in our industry by now. I learned my lesson when PS4 was jailbroken and I didn't keep a console on low firmware for years, but now I'm holding onto two low firmware PS5s specifically because there are features I'll be able to do that you can't do on official firmware, so this will pay off for me soon enough.

Jin_Sakai130d ago

It should be a sin to let these games sit and be stuck at 30fps.

EazyC130d ago

RDR 2 not getting a 60FPS patch for PS5 was a crime.

Why did EA Kill Project CARS?

This video explains why we think Electronic Arts didn't see a future in the sim racing title Project CARS and promptly cancelled the fourth instalment.

Jin_Sakai557d ago

After the last installment I’d say most hardcore fans left. It’s just not that good anymore so I can’t really blame EA this time.

masterfox557d ago

because it was always a project and it never got finished :D

ChubbyBlade555d ago

Every game is a project. Your joke doesn’t make sense

InUrFoxHole554d ago

It makes perfect sense. It's obviously a play on the title. Jesus christ you must be a blast at parties.

ApocalypseShadow556d ago (Edited 556d ago )

Ask Bullfrog or Black Box or Tiburon or Studio 33 or Criterion or any of the previously acquired developers who made racing games as competition, or as developers of EA games, then eventually dissolved into oblivion or reassigned. Just ask them. They'll tell you why.

ApocalypseShadow555d ago

Oh. I forgot. Even Code Masters were absorbed into Criterion. Another racing developer EA took over.

Every racing developer either absorbed by EA or eventually destroyed by them. They either kill competition or have them in the end make Need 4 Speed for them.

MadLad555d ago

EA only cancels projects for one reason.
They didn't see enough money in it.

Kombatologist555d ago (Edited 555d ago )

Not when it's because it didn't meet some crazy margin. It's like if something doesn't make EA a billion dollars on day one (I'm exaggerating that figure of course), they swiftly put it out to pasture.

SurgicalMenace555d ago (Edited 555d ago )

Much like if you're spending money on what's a bad investment for your desired goals, you'd do away with it, if you're wise. We should try to get away from thinking we know more about business than individuals that have been doing it for decades. Perhaps you could benefit from going into business instead of wasting all of your talents in comment sections. It's clear that you're the missing piece that EA's been looking for.

MadLad554d ago

I've made a good amount of money betting on underdog investments over the years.

EA sets unrealistic expectations of their more niche developers, yet continue to fund absolute blunders like DICE and the Battlefield series year after year.

dumahim555d ago

EA butted in and messed with the formula and act shocked when it doesn't work out.

Original Project CARS creator trying to re-hire EA team

Ian Bell, the founder of Slightly Mad Studios, is aiming to hire former Project CARS employees to work on his upcoming GTR Revival project.

Sgt_Slaughter558d ago

If it's just going to be another sim-cade that doesn't do either one correctly then no thanks.

Project CARS 2 was a step in the right direction but the physics still aren't where they should have been, so what did they do for PC3? Go completely arcade. That killed the franchise.
