Perhaps you’re sitting at home, getting hyped. You could hardly be blamed: a steady stream of conventions has yielded no shortage of bombastic trailers, and most of the major media companies are slowly turning up their media budgets in an effort to drive the general videogaming public into a cash-surrendering frenzy for the holiday season. If you’re still sitting on an Xbox 360 or a PS3, you might be realizing that you’ll be missing out on all of the biggest games of the season if you don’t upgrade to an Xbox One or a PS4 soon, and you might be considering picking one up in preparation. Here’s my advice to you: don’t. Whether you want to go with an Xbox One or a PS4, you’re better off waiting a few weeks until the games start rolling out and the deals start rolling in. It won’t be long.

If you own a PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360, you most definitely will not be missing out on ALL the biggest games releasing this holiday season. These last gen platforms still offer a lot of new content, even moreso than the more recent Wii U.

The more sensible thing to do now is wait for the Big 3 to offer more deals, bundles, and price cuts that make the jump to current gen all the more enticing. The longer you wait, the better the deals will become as opposed to just jumping on the bandwagon now.

I bought a PS4 two weeks after launch for Killzone SF beause I'm a fan of the series, and I wasn't dissapointed although bying a console day 1 isn't always a good choice. I could have waited but I didn't regret playing 3rd party cross platform games at better performances either.

Buying consoles early will mean you will have to wait for other games while playing the existing ones,as opposed to buying a console 3 years later and trying to catch up while getting new games. I got my first PS3 in the holiday of 2010, and I was freaking overwhelmed with all the games. I didn't want that to happen again. That was another reason I got my PS4 early

Since when is getting overwhelmed by games ever a bad thing? That just means you never have to go through drought periods and you can get games cheaper than when they released.

I had a PS3 since launch and my backlog still increases beyond comprehension because of all the weekly digital sales and monthly flash sales. Upgrading to a PS4 at a later date when the console and its games are cheaper and has much greater deals is the choice to go.

I bought PS4 on launch and got Xbox one in 2015. I do understand it was kinda rush for me to buy the console from the start. But i have no regrets at all. I do enjoy both of them. I played Halo Master Chief Collection and completed all the Halo campaigns, it took me about 4 days to finish all of them. And also, i got bunch AAA and Indie games on my PS4. Oh my god, it soo good. And next year, i'm think i'm going to be broke because there a lot of games come out and i cant choose which one going to be my list. Oh god, please give me more money.

Now is the time to buy a PS4 and XBO..... but just wait a few more months for better deals and better bundles. XBO has a great holiday 2015 line-up, both already has some really good games out, and 2016 should be strong year for XBO and an amazing year for PS4.

This holiday is the year to get a new console.

I bought Xbox One and do not regret buying it. Since launch playing great titles like Forza 5, RYSE and DeadRising 3, Plus great third party titles like Assasins Creed Black Flag were all worth it for me. In 2014 was no less for me playing Plants vs Zombies, Titanfall, Castle Wolfenstein, Super Timeforce were all great add in the second half with Lord of the Rings, Evil Within, Sunset Overdrive, Alien Isolation, D4, COD and Halo MCC were all well worth it. 2015 has been great also with Ori, State of Decay, Batman, Resident Evil Revelations, Forza Horizon present Fast and Furious etc., Moving into the latter half of this year the lineup looks even better so I don't regret purchasing on day one. However, with all that said there have been some fantastic deals post launch that can make us first day buyers envious. Either way it has been a fantastic start to this generation and the next two years look even more amazing.

I bought an Xbox One and play MCC. That's all I own. I play everything else on PC and Nintendo platforms. Can't wait for Gears & Halo 5.

I agree on Gears and Halo 5. I own a laptop that can be used for gaming but other then remote play via windows 10 I can't see myself come to play pc games. Console gamer for life.

I have had my xbox one and ps4 from day one. My xbox has surpassed my expectations this generation releasing some of the best games I have ever played.

And with the rest of the year being packed with AAA exclusives heading all through out next year, there's never been a better time to own an xbox one :) gears in less than a week =D

Not sure why you got more disagrees because what you said is right. I bought an Xbox One with Sunset Overdrive last year and the Xbox just seems to be getting better and better. I'm so glad I bought one.

I enjoyed my PS4 since I bought it at launch. So far it had exceeded my exoectations. I've had so many good games to play that I lost count.

I bought my PS4 at launch as well and not regretted it one bit, along side my PC, my gaming is covered this year.
I also added a X1 last year but found it a little underwhelming to be honest, hopefully 2016 will change that, especially with Quantum Break and Recore hitting the shelves.

as a old skool gamer neither has anything to offer us old skool gamer . if by chance anything remotely come our way as something good we'll pick it up on ps4 . i highly doubt it but we can dream.

open world "always online" killing us single player , 2 player offline gamers.

ps4 will be on hold until something other than "open world always online" games produced. in meantime wii U look nastalgic and colorful.

As a old skool gamer myself(Atari 2600, Spectrum 128k) and not a massive MP player, i know what you mean, but i still think the PS4 has plenty of good SP games to offer. The Order is a cracking game despite the xbox fanboys on here slamming it, Driveclub is another game that can be enjoyed offline if you wish, plus there are plenty of indie games that produce the look and feel of early 80's 90's games.

As someone with the same tastes as yours, I can say you don't necessarily need to be in a huge rush to get a ps4. I have one and I really dig it, but there haven't been many story driven single player games to keep me busy on it. There are a lot of fun things to play but I haven't had that standout memorable experience yet. The Order was fun & Infamous was probably my favorite of the bunch so far, lot of cool indies and some great titles to be had, but not a lot of "classic" status stuff for my personal tastes. That will all change very quickly though as UC4 is a must play. This isn't a knock on Sony or their machine, rather the state of the industry at large, because XBO seems to have even fewer games for our tastes. Really hoping gamers like us get catered to sooner rather than later. If the game experiences I enjoy keep dwindling away, I'll most likely put up my controller forever by the end of this gen.

Got the PS4 on it's release day (4:00AM morning line up - before work started at 7:00AM :)) specifically for Assassin's Creed and Killzone: Shadow Fall.

I have had every PS System on release day, no regrets. You pay early to enjoy the system and miss out on better bundles down the road. It's a fair trade off.

PCs will be 10 to 100x more powerful in about a year. Hard drives may be a thing of the past. You'd have to be pretty uninformed to jump on board current console technology that was outdated the day it was released. I can chill for a bit. Even if I had too much money, I wouldn't bother. All the major video game console manufactures will be hurrying out new hardware to maintain a foothold. This current gen is going to be over soon.

The problem with waiting for better deals, is that there will always be better deals on the horizon. When I bought my ps4, i thought (and at the time) i got a good one, but about two months later similar sort of deal ps4 & 2 games but £50 cheaper, annoying sure but it that time i already got a lot of enjoyment out of it.

I really doubt anyone going out and buying any new system is going regret it, all 3 consoles have a bunch of great games on them.

I don't care which platform you buy, but get one of them. Bad time? Fallout 4, Halo 5, Forza 6, Battlefront, Mad Max, Just Cause 3, Rainbow Six Siege, Until Dawn, Hitman, Mirror's Edge Catalyst, Deus Ex: HR, will all skip last gen consoles. Not to mention amazing games like Sunset OD, Bloodborne,Infamous SS, The Witcher 3, and Arkham Knight that have dropped in price. The really cool features that are offered by both consoles feels like a brand new experience too. Then of course new current gen IPs start to kick off next Spring along with UC 4 hopefully. Unless their arguement was to not buy one these next few months until Black Friday deals ( I didn't read it), I completely disagree. A lot of this Fall's huge titles are multiplayer-centric games that you definitely want to get in on whenever they first launch. I'm sure better deals are soon to be had, but we're two years in just about, and this gen is just starting to heat up. No matter when you buy one of them, a better deal is always just around the coener. To everyone standing hesitantly on the side with their floaties on, jump in, the waters warm!

Forbes: Giving you advice that isn't really needed, on a daily basis. Make your own damn decisions. After having both for a while, they're pretty solid and the libraries on both are finally picking up in full force. Maybe people forgot how slow hardware launches usually are... like the 18 month gap the Xbox 360 had. Or the desert wilderness that was the first nine months of the PS2 or the wildly erratic release schedule of the N64.

Bought a PS4, X1 and WiiU to go along with my PC's day one. Sold the PS4 and WiiU but bought another PS4 for $200 last weekend when Walmart matched the Kmart deal for me. There are enough exclusives for any system now to make them worth it.

If I didnt get a PS4 I wouldn't have been able to play Bloodborne so yeah I'm glad I got it.
