Phil Spencer Would Like Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon on Xbox One Via Backwards Compatibility

The Xbox One could use some JRPGs, and a solution to the drought could come via backwards compatibility, as mentioned by Xbox Division head Phil Spencer, who would like to see Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon working on the newer console.

Abash3193d ago

I hope it happens soon after the first wave of BC games.

Would love to see LO on the one cause I missed it last gen. I almost bought it but their was a lot of reports of the discs for the game being damaged in shipment by coming loose. Are these BC games going to be available digitally or am I going to have to buy a used copy. Really hope they sell the bc games in the store.

keenBlade3193d ago

You can play your 360 games, as long they're supported, via BC on your Xbox-One. This includes as well physical as digital copies.

If you own Lost Odyssey digitally you could just download it from the Xbox one store and play it, as soon it's supported.

The only difference between the 360 and the one is, that you have to download the full game if you own a physical version. You can't just start it from CD without installing, like before.

I guess this is because you're running it on an emulator.

meatnormous3193d ago

I don't own a copy of the game and am very leery about buying a used 360 game because of the disc scratching cause by some 360 models. I just want to be able to buy a digital copy to play on my one. I think it would be very wise for microsoft to offer the bc titles in the store to buy. Another is Ace combat 6, really hope it comes to bc as it was a true exclusive.

Clown_Syndr0me3193d ago

You won't buy pre owned games in case they're scratched? That's weird.
I own just over 200 Xbox 360 games andaround 150 were bought second hand. They all work great..

Pogmathoin3193d ago

Disc scratching is 99% more likely from bad handling.... Many disc devices have had a tiny % scratching issue, luck of the draw... Had 4 360's, never a scratch....

really great news. i would really love though to see their sequels make it over as well. these two games had great foundations to be made the into franchises.

-Foxtrot3193d ago (Edited 3193d ago )

Shame they own the rights to these games

We could have had Lost Odyssey 2 years ago if the developers had them

-Foxtrot3193d ago

It could but my point is if they didn't have the rights to it that "could" might be a "done and completed"

Gazondaily3193d ago

That's conjecture. Shenmue is an example of that.

Heck where is Power Stone?!

Perjoss3193d ago

LO was a big part of MS's big japan push for the 360, they seem to have calmed down a lot when it comes to pushing the xbox brand over there so I fear we may never see a sequel. Judging from what I've read the game sold way less than a million copies, so its like Ico/SotC all over again, amazing game that just didnt sell.

DLConspiracy3193d ago

The fact that Phil is bringing it up about BC. Means he's considered it and perhaps it could be in the works.

Bigpappy3193d ago

Actually, I take it as conformation that it WILL happen.

Concertoine3193d ago (Edited 3193d ago )

I sincerely doubt that. Mistwalker is making mobile games these days, they only made big JRPGs when Nintendo or MS funded them. Also LO sold pretty meh, and i doubt any publisher would be willing to fund such a risky sequel.

@below
Then again MS was working on (still working on?) Phantom Dust, which was even more obscure. There's still hope. This is the kind of game they fund as a bullet point, to say "hey, we have jrpgs too!"

keenBlade3193d ago

Yes, it's sad but true..

MeliMel3193d ago

Well seeing as its MS game they would be funding and publishing. Its finding someone to make it if Mistwalker cant.

That was funny tho, im like MS owns the game why would some other company publish it..haha

ScorpiusX3193d ago

How is there any shame in owning something and only using it whenver you want .

Pogmathoin3193d ago

It was MS that helped bring the game in the first place....

Lost Odyssey was one of the most underrated games of the last generation. Seriously, a masterpiece. They better bring it over!

raWfodog3192d ago

Yes, it was easily my favorite 360 game. It was beautifully done and I loved the Thousand Years of Dreams stories. They were very poignant and made me more emotionally attached to what Kaim was going through.

Lukejrl3192d ago

When disc one finished, and Kaim had that big revelation, I was blown away! This is the end of Disc 1!!! And I was hooked.

elarcadia3192d ago

Definitely! This was one of the first JRPG's that really grabbed me from the beginning. Most JRPG's (Persona, FF, Kingdom Hearts, etc.) have super long videos in the beginning, which are awesome but can slow down the momentum. LO had an intense short video and then just threw you right into the battle. Within 10 mins or so you are fighting a minor boss! It did everything so darn well.

gangsta_red3193d ago

Gangsta would like a sequel to those amazing games.

Seriously MS should be in Japan spending some cash on bringing Jrpgs to the Xbox One.

I have LO and haven't finished it yet...would love to have BC for this game.

elarcadia3192d ago

Lost Odyssey and Tales of Vesperia were the top two JRPG's of the last generation in my opinion (for all systems). I don't see a sequel happening for Tales of Vesperia (*sigh*) so I am relying on LO to make that sequel happen!

Xbox No Longer Has Its Head In The Game

Microsoft & Xbox have shut down Arkane Austin and Tango Gameworks to lay off more workers, insinuating that they're not in the game anymore.

XiNatsuDragnel4d ago

They're headless for a long time because closing tango isn't exactly a good move

PapaBop3d ago

Ever since that cringe Kinect reveal they've never been the same. They used to make some amazing games and do great deals with third parties Early on in the 360 era they had games like Chromehounds and Shadowrun, both well ahead of their time. Now instead of nurturing their studios, they'd rather gaslight gamers and throw billions on pre existing studios. Not sure how Spencer is still in a job, I wouldn't trust him to organise a piss-up in a brewery.

Father__Merrin3d ago

We've said all along Spencer needs to go. I wish xbox went back to xbox only with new gears fable forza halo releases lots of third party releases

Those early rainbow 6 Vegas days and phantasy star universe are gone forever

S2Killinit3d ago

MS has its head in the game but the game they are playing is something different from what console gamers expect from a platform. MS’s end game has always been to use the xbox as a trojan horse.

XiNatsuDragnel3d ago

Lol that's funny well this plan they have isn't working homie

“Acquisitions always come with cuts”

343 trillion points shield activated
343 trillion percent damage negate activated
All damage reduced to 1 for 343 trillion turns.
MICROSOFT DEFENSE FORCE IS A GO

Tacoboto4d ago

Especially for Microsoft, when Booty pretty much said they didn't know how to handle that many studios.

Why even make the acquisition then.

-Foxtrot4d ago

Didn’t they make the swipe for Bethesda when Sony wanted like 6 months exclusiveness for Starfield

It’s like…chill, you got Rise of the Tomb Raider for a year.

romulus234d ago

Do they always come with senseless cuts becasue that's exactly what cutting Tango was, senseless.

H94d ago

Everyone's acting now that game companies care about games and Xbox is committing the Ultimate betrayal, they are all like this and you have just been quiet about it for far too long

Nuclearmoon4d ago

I wonder if Microsoft do pull out of the console market that it might open the door for valve to relaunch the Steambox. Competition is good for the industry but Microsoft don't even seem to be trying anymore.

UltimateOwnage4d ago

Steam / Valve are one of the few truly pro-consumer bright spots in gaming right now. Thankfully.

Jingsing2d ago

From all the money Valve make from Steam they reinvest almost 0 into creating new AAA titles for the PC platform, Absolutely no giving nothing back in that regard. Wake up.

“Your game has won some pretty significant awards and is a show piece for where we want to go in the future.”

Fallout 76 Players Have Nuked Phil Spencer in Response to Studio Closures

Fallout 76 players have dropped the big one on Phil Spencer in response to Xbox's closures of Arkane Austin and Tango Gameworks this week.

Meet The Guy Who Just Nuked Xbox Boss Phil Spencer In Fallout 76

He said he treated the Xbox executive like the RPG's final boss

Jingsing5d ago

Somewhat fitting, Considering buying Bethesda was a complete selfish purchasing decision by himself just because he is a big Fallout fan he wanted to own the toy. Well quite frankly Microsoft should look at that and say you put your personal tastes in front of the business and it has backfired.

anast5d ago

Todd Howard out hustled Phil. Howard is definitely in the top 3 all time hustlers in video game history.

OtterX5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

Phil's game character properly looks like a villain too.
