It's A Tragedy That Rare Replay Isn't On A Nintendo Console

Nintendo Life

Resigned to the fact that Rare Replay will remain an Xbox One exclusive until the end of time, I've no real option but to recommend it in the highest manner possible to those of you who happen to own Microsoft's current home console. Not only is it a brilliantly constructed tribute to one of the world's most esteemed game-makers, but it also offers insane value for money and delivers a solid illustration of just how important Nintendo's hardware has been to the evolution of not just this one, legendary studio, but the games industry as a whole.

Tragedy? Don't thing that is appropriate use of the word. May be sad, but not tragic.

i want a N64 cartridge with this.

I wish Microsoft and Nintendo could come to an agreement to release Diddy Kong Racing on the Virtual Console, it's not like MS would be losing any money because of it but it would be great for fans and effectively promote Banjo & Kazooie franchise when the next Xbox One game is released..

* " Journalist" isn't smart enough to understand the definition of the word Tragedy.

THAT is what "journalism" has become now.

People just over using words they don't comprehend, and saying whatever they want and presenting their opinion as fact.

I would have loved to see something similar on Wii U or 3DS or NX, but I'll take what I can get.

Media are such cry babies.

The only traggic thing I can think of is Nintendo blocking Golden Eye to be released on X360; thus, it is missing in this collection on XB1.

Nintendo clearly doesn't have a problem cooperating with MS on Rare releases, Phil said so.

I think it has to do with the Bond license more than anything.

On the topic of the article, maybe if Nintendo bought the company when it was in its prime it wouldn't have fallen off like it did. Don't get me wrong, still a great studio with a lot of talent, but not the same Rare. Hopefully they will prove themselves with a new IP of their own.

"Although Microsoft, Activision (current owners of the game rights to the James Bond franchise)and Nintendo were said to have agreed upon a licensing deal for the title initially, Nintendo Japan allegedly refused to grant their permission at last minute. Therefore the remake had to be canned only months before completion."

Sea of Thieves... We will see. A new Perfect Dark would be quite welcome, too.

I like how the author gives props without bashing it just because it's on another console. Very classy!

VenomUK3220d ago

Very well said. No format wars guff just a Rare fan, who wishes these games because of their legacy were on a Nintendo console and ends up recommending them on Xbox!

Tedakin3220d ago

Yeah when I was a kid/teen Rare was Nintendo. They were the same. It's odd to see Rare on another platform sometimes. It's a shame Donkey Kong Country 1-3 couldn't be in this for obvious reasons. Still a great set I'm interested in.

Looking back to 2015 and the Time Capsule that was Rare Replay

As an Xbox website, it would be remiss to say that the Xbox One has had its’ detractors this generation. After stumbling about with their Xbox One reveal a few years before, Microsoft and their gaming brand were in a period of transition. But Rare Replay had another trick up its sleeve to appeal to a core Xbox audience. Their announcement promised 30 games priced at £20, with 10000 Gamerscore. It was an achievement hunters wet dream.

None of those games are "Xbox One Exclusives".

What if I wrote an article about these same game and said they were "PC exclusive"? lol...Xbox fans would erupt.

RazzerRedux1464d ago

Correction: "Rare Replay" is indeed Xbox One exclusive. The rest are on PC.

russo1211463d ago

Moral of the story - if you want to play exclusives you must have a PlayStation, it's the best bet.

I personally only bought the Xbox one when i did because I had to have Titanfall. That game is so underrated in how it revolutionized the movement in the genre.

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen1463d ago

None of those games is exclusive to Xbox One. Rare Replay is a collection of Nintendo games and the rest are available on Steam.

lellkay1463d ago (Edited 1463d ago )

Rare replay has a bunch of older Rare Nintendo games on it, but also has a selection of Xbox and Xbox360 exclusives on it which are not available on steam (Grabbed by the Ghoulies, PDZ, Kameo,Viva Pinata etc)

Rare Replay is an exclusive in terms of the overall one proudct package and its surprisingly decent for the cost, but I think it really shows how dire a situation it is when people are having to put Rare Replay on a list trying to promote Xbox Exclusives... Jesus its been a hard gen for people who only bought Xbox's.
