Destiny is a grind, but that ain’t a bad thing

There comes a certain time in Destiny, when the game slows down. When the same areas feel far too familiar, and the effort of taking part in events just doesn’t feel worthwhile. It’s hard enough getting your Guardian from level one all the way through to level 20. But in reality this is when the game starts becoming great

Lol, level 32. Freakin' Kinderguardian.

GavinMannion3215d ago

I'm only on level 30... and I'm bored of the grind.

BUT I have to admit when you get a team of 3 going and hit the strikes it is one of the better gaming experiences out there

Gozer3214d ago

Yourself, and the author of this article will eventually reach the same conclusion. You are already getting a taste of how repetitive it is. Eventually, you will realize that Destiny is nothing more than a gambling addiction. Everything you do in Destiny is a number roll. I sank right at 1400hrs into Destiny before I got wise to Bungies intentions.

Peace_Love_and_FPS3214d ago (Edited 3214d ago )

@Gozer

That's like me saying I roll dice in my room all day, hoping I get snake eyes (double 1s) and calling it gambling. You pay money for the game, you play it for fun, no gambling involved otherwise it wouldn't be legal for those under 18 to buy it.

Now, doing that would be boring as h***, and destiny is indeed repetitive but there's nothing stopping you from putting down the controller and Bungie has no "intentions" of making you fall into a deep pit of addiction, its all you man.

Now get that tinfoil hat off your head ;) and stop BSing about 1400 hours, yeah f****** right lol

Gozer3214d ago (Edited 3214d ago )

@Peace

Sorry bud, but you are wrong on this one. Ever wonder how a person can sit in front of a slot machine for hours pulling that same lever over, and over, and over again without getting bored? They are waiting for that jackpot. Destiny, and slots have something in common. They both use a random number generator(rng), to give out rewards. Ever wonder why someone can play the same content over, and over, and over again for months in Destiny? Were you excited when the rng finally dropped you a Gjallarhorn, or some exotic/legendary that you wanted. You just hit the jackpot. Im sure that Bungie knew exactly what they were doing when they made this design decision.

If you cant see this, then you are in the denial stage of addiction.

* I've enjoyed Destiny more as a game I go back to every 3-4 months.

I'll play the heck out of it for 1-2 weeks and then I'm good for like 3-5 months.

There is nothing wrong with that either.

It happened a lot with NES/Sega Genesis/SNES/N64/PS1..ect..

HairyKnees3214d ago

GRINDFEST! Urgh... why do I fall for these games???

Xbonewone320153214d ago

Intermittent reward system.

Once you research what it is, you'll feel like an idiot for getting addicted to it.

You are currently a puppet, and the puppet master is pulling your strings.

Elimin83214d ago

haha. he's blaming the IRS! hehe

spacedelete3214d ago

i laugh at people playing Destiny still

Yui_Suzumiya3214d ago

What about people who haven't started yet like me? Waiting on Legendary edition. The game plus all content up to Taken King for cheap.

theFAYEsorceress3214d ago

why? not everyone has the same opinion as you.

objdadon3214d ago

You laugh at people who have fun playing a video game???

darren_poolies3214d ago

You laugh at people that enjoy a game? Erm okay.

Peace_Love_and_FPS3214d ago

Whoa you got your bubbles back!!! Never saw that coming D:

Why do you just gotta be so negative towards everything? I remember specifically there was an article about a destiny player who got to play it for a week at launch before dying, and you making an insensitive, offensive comment.

ON TOPIC: I don't see any point in playing anymore myself, got 3 34s (no, it didn't take long and I didn't play a lot), but I'm not going to be a d*** and laugh at people still playing something they enjoy, that's just uncalled for and I'm pretty sure they would laugh at you laughing at them :P so what if they like destiny still?

Just please go spread that negativity somewhere else

Destiny wasn't for me.

Has something to do with respecting quality gaming or some such reason.

Hm.

That's not a bad thing though, right?

Roccetarius3214d ago

If you think Destiny is a grind, look at what ESO offers. Especially the Champion Points.

Destiny Made Over $160 Million In Microtransaction Revenue In Less Than 2 Years

Destiny has made over $160 million in MTX revenue, and these numbers only account the data from late 2017 to early 2019.

Sgt_Slaughter352d ago

That's extremely low for microtransactions, especially for a game that's essentially designed around it

LucasRuinedChildhood352d ago (Edited 352d ago )

This was back when the game wasn't free to play.

The figures are from November 2017 to February 2019 (1 year and 4 months).

Based on that projection, the MTX revenue for Destiny 2 likely would have been closer to ~$240m for 2 years.

Not sure if premium expansions are included in that figure either although ... I'd hope that they are though and that most of the revenue was for actual content like Forsaken.

People spend way too much money on cosmetics.

Rude-ro352d ago (Edited 352d ago )

Seasons($10 and just got bumped to $12) and dungeon keys($10 each, two a year) are through the eververse(micro transaction) store.
So for those two years, in order to play a season, you would pay through micro transactions.

Sonic1881352d ago (Edited 352d ago )

Bungie Marathon will be worse since it's designed around it as well

Kurt Russell352d ago

It makes me sad to agree... but at the same time I am looking forward to giving it a go. Destiny 2 is so far in, I find it difficult to figure out what I am meant to do first.

buffig352d ago

I think FIFA alone makes over $1bn a year from mtx

anast352d ago

FIFA promotes a worldwide sport. It should make more money than destiny.

CantThinkOfAUsername352d ago (Edited 352d ago )

Let's compare something similar. Apex Legends and its ridiculous $18/$40 skins make EA a billion each year.

z2g352d ago

For as much as ppl complain how much they hate microtransactions, they sure don’t act like it. No wonder they aren’t going anywhere.

spicelicka352d ago

By "people" you're referring to millions and millions of people. Obviously the ones complaining aren't necessarily the same as the ones spending all that money.

There's millions that purchase MTX and there's nothing we can do about it

I've been thinking about playing through D1 again before it goes away...

CobraKai503d ago

That’s the sad reality of a game like this. I bought it, invested lots of money, and it can go away at anytime. I still think this was more fun than 2.

jeromeface502d ago

prob because 2 is a grindfest slog

spoonard500d ago

That's the bummer of 'games as a service'.
