The most important rating is that Lost Plant scored a full 6 points higher than Motorstorm. That is so huge. Sony has really been pushing Motorstorm as a reason to buy a PS3.

Yeah, 30/40 for Motorstorm is definitely not good news. That is like a 75/100 here. 75 for Motorstorm?? The last time I checked, when a game got a 75 rating that meant it sucked. I thought this was supposed to be the killer app that sold more consoles. You don't sell consoles with 75 scores. Lost Planet got the equivalent of a 90.

There are 4 people reviewing the game and each scoring the game out of 10. The 4 scores get added together to givea total out of 40. Hope that helps. :)

Motorstorm really isn't very good at all from what I played at the demo booth in bestbuy. the framerate is choppy whenever more than 4 trucks are on screen (which is often since there are I think 16 in a race), and the graphics aren't even that impressive anyway. Not nearly is nice as those screenshots they put up a long time ago.

Anyways, i'm not really surprised. I don't think Motorstorm is the kind of game that japanese gamers really like. Plus, the japanese version of MS doesn't have an online mode.
I wouldn't use Famitsu's scores only.

Online multiplayer is added. This is the Japanese version that doesn't have online multiplayer yet. As it stands, the game is definitely very good. I hope they don't screw up on the multiplayer.

Its about games! PSP isnt kicking the sh1t outta 360 the game is kicking the sh!t outta the other game. Can you really compare the two? My PSP collects dust cause its a POS and I regret buying it. If anyone wants a PSP with 5 games and 2 battery packs (2nd battery is from my first PSP that went tits up after a month) and a 1 gig stick let me know I will sell the bundle cheap.

They have to review the games in context. As a reviewer you don't compare a handheld game to a console game. You review it as a handheld game. It's really common sense , I am not going to waste my time arguing with you about it.

motorstorm had no online capabilities for the Japanese version. this is a huge disappointment for Japanese fans. that's why i think it got an 8. what fun is a racing game if you can't challenge others. i will bet that the reviews for the US/Euro version will be much better.

Honestly I give very little credence to Famitsu scores when it comes to gaming in the US. I will wait and see how Western sites score the game before I pass judgement, etc.

I mean really...they gave Sonic almost the same score as Motorstorm on the PS3. And Sonic is garbage as far as I am concerned. They also loved DOAX2 as I recall. Basically they have different likes in games than we do from the West. So ...Famitsu scores from my perspective are taken with a grain of salt.

from what i have read and the demo i saw (were a few people waiting so i didn't get to play) it was very dissapointing from what the hype machine built up so i wouldn't be surprised to see similar scores (8s) from impartial (non fanboy sites) reviewers.

Even though I'm not a sony fan (own a 360) I must say Famitsu is an unreliable piece of crap these days. They give horrible games good reviews (Armor Core for PS3, DOA Extreme Beach Volleyball for 360, and SONIC), they're definitely biased towards Japanese type games. I'm sure motorstorm is alright.

Lost Planet is a very popular game in Japan so far but yet i feel it's still a sleeper.

So far every single PS3 game does not get their score highter than all the AAA XBox 360 games.
When a 3rd party game "Need for Speed Carbon" scores better than a 1st "Motorstorm" game when Sony and their fanboys didn't seem to stop bragging and calling it the XBox 360 killer it does make you feel sad inside for the poor lost souls. I feel feel like crying! wahhhhhh waaaaaahhh!

japan is so important when PS3 fans are talking about sales figures and how 360 is getting wooped in the land of the rising sun but as soon as Japan scores a PS3 game low Japan suddenly isnt important and just wait till north americans score the game? give me a break. i happen to agree that Japaneese opinion doesnt matter to North American gamers but lets stay consistent instead of just making excuses then contradicting ourselves. The only thing this tells us is that the folks at Famitsu are complete retards. Has anyone played Sonic? No. Cause it's so bad you almost can't. Even though I'm no fan of the Ps3 there's no chance in hell NFS: Carbon could be better than Motorstorm. I own it (Carbon) and it sucks really bad. Last-gen graphics and a framerate that takes away all sense of speed. So I don't care how they rate their games, let's wait until Ign or some other reliable source reviews it. That's what will be interesting.

but 8 out of 10 from a top japanese game mag is great.i agree with the 6 for replay because it's not online over there.very few games get 10's.one was zelda:ocarina of time.one was soul calibur on dreamcast.no games on 360 or xbox got 10s.but there is always a first time.

Famitsu is not a good scorecard for Western gamers period. They may reflect similiar scores to Western Reviewers at times but their reasons for liking/disliking a game will be very different. MS needs to be judged for the Western version ....that will be the test in terms of scores. It got a good score from Famitsu..not the slam dunk all thought...but still a good score. RFOM had a similar fate if I recall. I still say MS will be a good game on PS3...not sure about great...but solidly good for sure.

Motorstomr is not the AAA game. Its a "good" game. But nothing special like the sony fans have been screaming at the top of their voice about. This is the game sony fans were saying will finally show what the ps3 is capable of. I kept telling people its NOT. Its Fun, and decent...but not better than the racers I have enjoyed on the 360. And now, the review supports my claim. I told you I knew what I was talking about. I have played the demo on MY PS3. Previews are meant to hype games and sony fans fall for it every time. I have Need for Speed Carbon on the 360 and its much better than Motorstorm in my opinion.

A Japanese magazine, thats the whole point. You would think the score would of been a bit higher since they are usually biased towards anything japanese. And the fact that Sonic got the same score is even worse, that the same reviewers were as impressed (or unimpressed) with Motorstorm as they were with Sonic doesn't really say much for the game.

Oh yeah...not only msfanboys loved halo, try the majority of the gaming world. With a average score of 96% (Gamerankings.com), I think it safe to say that it was a prett good game ;).

I still love the Demo and cant wait for the Game to release. At first it was really nothing special i admit. But the more you play and mess with the better the game acutally gets. I never have the same two races. One race i can completey dominate, the next i crash into the side of a boulder go flying and as am landing get creamed by a sprintbuggy that is passing under me. One score will not change my mind on this game. Just like most people like Halo and i really enjoy the Red vs Blue skits more then the acutal game. But HALO3 looks like it might have some teeth to make me at least give it a try.

of gamers over there. There are 3 things that american gamers love. Sports, cars and guns. Look at all the top selling games that sell here in the states. Madden, halo, GTA, NBA 2k7, Gears. We always buy the same type of game, but with a slight twist. If you ever look at japanesse top seller list they always have a lot of titles that we would never look at. Dating sim, horse racing sims, train sims. yeah we do have some game in common most notiably Resisdent Evil and the Metal Gear series. They are more into a game where there really is no goal but to improve your Personal standings or if anything a game that stays fun and challenging for a long time. Sims. We in America are more into the game that has a true ending (no matter how lame) Or a game that we can go in compete with our friends. HALO, MADDEN, ETC. Hey but games are games. I've played the Horse sims and Dating sims, MAdden and GTA's. Damn at a arcade i love DDR. IN the end the only score that matters is, How much fun do you have with SAID GAME?

...series is a non-loved franchise in Japan, only Ridge Racer and Gran Turismo are their taste, the more race driven adrenaline destruction loving American and European markets support the games like Burnout and ATV offroad fury titles, so MotorStorm is'nt any different. It just doesn't get their part of attraction. While on the other hand Lost Planet, just like Blue Dragon gets 36/40 (while gears of war remains a know not)...that's like 9/10, and Blue dragon hasn't stirred anything up. DOA3 got 250,000 xbox systems sold in Japan in 2001 when it was launched, how many have Blue Dragon ?

GTA series is a know not in Japan and the highest ranking game of the last week was Yakuza 2, yes, Yakuza 2 was rated 38/40 in Famitsu, that's like 9.5/10...even better than Blue Dragon. Can you imagine that happening in Western marets ?...when the original Yakuza just released 4 months ago only got a 7 rating here. NO ! so you see how different tastes Japanese have got.

I was just surprised that all the PSP games in that sample scored higher than the DS. Now as for what that means, I'm not so sure. In a lot of ways, you can compare the PS3 to the PSP. PSP sales haven't been amazing, but they're consistant, and there are a fair number of good games out for it. I think the handheld market has become what the consule market is as now there is just no one system.
The DS rocks, but I prefer my PSP. You've got two good systems with different styles that appeal to different groups. Both are here to stay. But please Sony, put a second thumb stick on the next PSP.
