Console vs. PC – The Problems With Cross Play and Cheating (Part 1) | Daily Reaction

PSLS - With the recent news about Rocket League having to look into PC players cheating on the PC, the Daily Reaction crew kicks off their two-part special that looks into the differences between the two ecosystems. Today, we discuss how gamers across both platforms take different approaches to cheating, modding and what it means for our ability to coincide.

Coincide? Nope. Just collide.

Wedge193204d ago

There's certainly some kinks to be worked out, but I think we can live together.

ATi_Elite3204d ago

The kinks are:

Pc updates happen all the time and can be downloaded from any where sometimes.

Consoles require MS or Sony approval so the Pc would get updated faster or vice versa if the game was console first.

A certain faction of PC Gamers like to hack thus the game code would take a beating. No problem for Steam or dedicated servers as most Pc games sit on dedicated servers but p2p would not be fun.

Kb/m vs. Controller!

It's an issue that no one wants to admit to as Pc Gamers would have a huge advantage.

I see Sony maybe doing something with planetside 2 to allow cross play but for now pc Sony MS all game in 3 different worlds.

Omg I would love to see Sony vs. Ms in COD or BF.

Iceman X3204d ago

Not true Final Fantasy 14 (PS3/PS4/PC/MAC) and Final Fantasy 11 (PS2/PS3/PC/MAC/Xbox360) didn't have these problems it's lazy devs. These are 2 of many games that get same updates same day for all platforms.

d3nworth13204d ago

Kb/m vs Controller for shooters. What about racers, fighters and sports games. I want to see you play a fighter with a keyboard and beat someone with a controller. Not going to happen. Street Fighter 5 will be crossplay. Rocket League, both Final fantasy MMOs, Portal 2, Shadowrun and other games I can't remember support Crossplay from console to PC. Plus console can use kb/m. Unreal Tournament 3 on ps3 supported kb/m and FF7 Dirge of Cerberus on Ps2 supported kb/m. Final fantasy 14 on ps3 and ps4 supports kb/m. The consoles have usb ports. Its up to the devs if the want to support it.

Baka-akaB3204d ago (Edited 3204d ago )

I see what you mean , and i agree , but you do realize that some fighting game are actually easier on Keyboards ? Some games have some heavy usage of plinking and input buffer , making some executions easier , and definitively didnt expect keyboards to be used , where it's so much easier .

Some have a field day making 360 grab motions on kb . And it's actually one of the origins of stickless arcade stick (basically stick with direction buttons instead of the stick rod) .

Other than that yeah , for those that care , kb and mouse should just be supported in most consoles games . It had been natively supported on consoles since at least the ps3/360

IrishSt0ner3203d ago

Anyone who played Shadowrun on X360 knows just how large of an advantage k/m has over controller on FPS games.

Those of us on the console side never won a single match, not one. MS killed off their cross-platform play after this was established.

Contollors can be better in some genres, so I hope Sony/MS do make cross-platfrom a common thing this generation.

LIVE to PSN cross-play would be awesome although I can't see that happening (mainly due to MS, if past history serves as evidence)

Can't we all just get along?

ClayRules20123204d ago (Edited 3204d ago )

I personally wish Console/PCgamers could all be respectful towards each other. We all LOVE the same thing, Video games!!!

I have a few friends who game on PC, but most of my friends game on Console, like myself. I think its great that my friends, on PC , respect the fact that I personally prefer gaming on Console/PS4. They don't get ignorant & brag about playing their games on PC in 4K resolution with higher fps than on Console.

I understand PC's are more powerful than the PS4/Xbox one, but that doesn't change the fact that both PS4/Xbox one will have amazing games coming soon from Sony & Microsoft.

PS4 has Uncharted 4 A Thief's End, Horizon Zero Dawn, Rachet & Clank remake, Until Dawn, The Last Guardian, just to name a few that come to my mind.

Xbox one has Halo 5, Quantum Break, Rise of the Tomb Raider, which is a Timed exclusive, just to name a few.

I don't know what PC has coming exclusively, but i'm sure it'll be amazing in its own right.

We can all agree to disagree, with respect for one another. At least I hope one day we truly can. Without all the nasty, hateful, ignorant, talk that happens between Console/PC gamers.

bluebenjamin3204d ago

We could probably play together devs just need to make controllers mandatory for cross play just to even the playing feild.Im all for it and I hope it happens.

Baka-akaB3204d ago (Edited 3204d ago )

Nope , making a peripheral mandatory for cross play on pc is counterproductive to pc gaming culture .

Likewise it would be silly for SFV to require a pad on pc , when some people play just fine on keyboards .

The average gamer is average whatever the controller used , it should be up to each individual and their skills , to deal with it's default or chosen controller on each platform , when crossplay is a factor .

Even with fps , when most current popular franchise are already simplified in their gameplay for the benefits of the console market

bluebenjamin3204d ago

It will be to easy clicking my mouse to kill someone using a controller. When its PC vs PC KB/M is cool but playing console gamers it will be boring unless people like it to be easy. I just rather not hear excuses when I kick someones ass in a game.I cant see cross play being fair any other way and I definitely couldnt see it being in motion any other way.#keep it fair...

Baka-akaB3204d ago (Edited 3204d ago )

Then let them makes excuses , people already always make those even on a single unified platform , such as lag . Likewise KB players wont have any , and just salty tears , when getting beaten by a few pad users , which happens and will happen unless it's a bonafide 100% good old pc fps . The truly skilled players always rise above

Again it's completely against pc mentality to restrict people the way you propose .

Things worked fine on even games as twitchy as Quake 3 ... And CoD and many fps got nothing on Quake in the twitch and reaction department

At most you can always make some rankings with separate inputs for the purists

Pandamobile3204d ago (Edited 3204d ago )

Yeah F that. How about we just make mouse/keyboard controls mandatory for developers to implement on consoles instead.

Then you can truly level the playing field instead of just handicapping one team. Players should be ranked and matched in skill online, not by what input they use.

I would say "slow news day?", but that would be an understatement.

"This unwritten rule for Rocket League states that when two players’ cars get linked together, such as in a face-to-face or rear-to-rear arrangement, these two players must stay in this position until outside interference separates them."

That's literally it. That's the only "rule" that is mentioned in this article.

Gravity_DoGG183d ago

Thats "Rule 1" or as the OG's would call it "Rule 0" But its the most cringe shit ever. No one wants to lock cars if you are playing a competetive game. Players even get pissed and spam chat when you back out of it like you violated them or some shit.
