The more definitive edition the better right? A South African retailer has listed Dead Island Definitive Edition for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

Oh god its getting to be too much. Most of these definitive editions are just the PC version and they are charging prices that are way too high.

ABizzel13214d ago

Just don't buy it, it's getting out of hand, so just skip over them.

Games should only be Remaster if it was a critically successful game that was amazing or might have been overlooked with a higher resolution, butter graphics, a better framerate, and all content (The Last of Us / GTAV / Darksiders). IMO these games should be $40 with a discount for those who already purchased the game (Dishonored is doing it right)

or

Games that have an at least 2 or more entires all remastered on one disc with higher resolution / framerate / and potentially better graphics (Halo: MCC / Uncharted Collection).

If you don't fit that criteria then you shouldn't be making a remaster, and we should let them fail to stop this from happening too much.

spacedelete3214d ago

where did he say he was going to buy it ? he is still entitled to complain. my opinion is these remasters should either be cross buy or put free straight on PS Plus.

_-EDMIX-_3214d ago

@Space- You also have not clue about business either bud.

They spent money to port it, why give it away for free?

That is like saying "my opinion sequels should all be free, I mean...you bought the first 1, what more do they want?"

Sounds like pure entitlement to be bud.

Don't need to buy it, skip it and move on. Might as well complain about paying for games at all if you don't know any better....

Team_Litt3215d ago

Oh come on! This is getting ridiculous! Thanx ALOT whoever started this remaster trend BS!

StormLegend3215d ago

I think it started with Tomb Raider..

_-EDMIX-_3215d ago

I think it started with life bro.

Not the first gen to have ports, not sure why anyone thought it would be the last.

Thats like saying one day a company will just not like making money lol.

$1 million, 5 months, many times even less and maybe 10 staff is all it actually takes to make a port bud.

If they can make the cost back of the porting, then why not?

A better question really is....why is this um... "ridiculous"?

StormLegend3215d ago

Sigh.... it just won't stop!!!

I don't mind Sony and MS doing it, but these type of games don't deserve a definitive edition..

yewles13215d ago

"BUH BUH BUT YOUZ DON'T HAZ 2 BYE IT!!!"

Well THEY don't have to milk it... guess what--

_-EDMIX-_3215d ago

??? So a company should not seek to make money on an item you don't need to buy?

Milking? Bud....its their job to make money, that is like getting mad a McDonalds for not making a Big Mac for another consumer and stating they are "milking it"

Their job is sorta to do that, they have to make money bud.

You don't need to buy it, but I'm pretty sure they still need to make money and a port will get them money to actually do new games...

A port cost like 1 million to make, a new AAA game can be around 60 million or more, not even counting marketing cost.

I don't get folks getting mad at a company doing just what its sorta suppose to do....make money.

spacedelete3214d ago

so we aren't entitled to want new games ? your literally defending these companies to make less games. look at Rockstar they have done nothing but ports of GTAV since 2013 with no full priced release in 2015. so lets say they announce a game next year with a release of 2017. thats literally a whole gen of nothing released.

_-EDMIX-_3214d ago

Who said it was either or? Their job is to make money, its not based on choosing to port or make a new game bud.

"A port cost like 1 million to make, a new AAA game can be around 60 million"

"thats literally a whole gen of nothing released"

And?

They did ports last gen too bud, GTA III, Vice City, GTA SA, Bully all got ported last gen.

But we also got GTAIV, GTAV, Red Dead, Max Payne 3 etc.

Rockstar clearly still has games they are working on, look how long it took for them to release GTAV, they work on perfection, let them.

Its not either or as those teams are not making a port as suppose to making a new game.

Again....a port can be done in 5 to 6 months from about 10 people (the average port size), a full ground up game takes YEARS to make, they've been likely working on their first next gen game for years now, likely since 2013 when GTAV was complete.

They would not need the whole team to port....ie GTAV didn't get a new engine, it didn't get a new story, it didn't get a new art direction etc.....thus those key staff have likely been working on a new game since they completed GTAV.

I think you need to really, really learn what ports are bud.

"Rockstar they have done nothing but ports"

Really, because you've been at Rockstar's studio and saw what they where working on?

Thats like saying Guerrilla games has done NOTHING but work on Killzone after Killzone for years....

(well...you also didn't go to their studio to see they where working on Horizon) soooooooo lol

Perception bud. Aspyr is one of the best port teams in gaming, they are made up of a team of 10 people...they can port a game in mere weeks.

It doesn't take as much as you think to port, it doesn't cost as much as a full game, the process isn't even near the same and what a company releases as a PUBLISHER isn't some how indicative of ALL that they are working on. That is just as ignorant and naive as they come.

MysticStrummer3215d ago (Edited 3215d ago )

Guess what…

It's really true, you don't have to buy them, but you do have to deal with the fact that those who hate them aren't significant enough to stop them from being made.

As for Dead Island Definitive Edition… no thank you. <--See how easy that was?

Yui_Suzumiya3215d ago

Awesome. I'll buy it. Despite a few gripes and annoying sections I enjoyed the Dead Island games.

Dead Island 2 devs believe a Dead Island remake would be a “mistake”

We might be in the age of remasters, but it doesn't look like the Dead Island 2 devs believe remaking the original game is the right move for the series.

but remakes require far less effort for these companies and they can still charge $70 for them!

Feel like everyone makes fun of Skyrim re-releasing like 18 times yet applaud these remasters elsewhere. Would much prefer NEW games

CrimsonWing69420d ago

Making sequels really is the way to go. Otherwise we'll be stuck playing only the first entry, forever!!!

Dead Island's 2011 reveal is still the best game trailer of all time

Josiah Motley of KnowTechie writes: "I love video game trailers. While I don’t believe they are an integral part of a game’s success (especially these days), there’s something about a well-produced trailer that really just reminds me why I like video games."

Also the most misleading of all time

SDuck832d ago

How so? Because it focused on a family that you see dying? (innocent question, haven't gotten a chance to play any Dead Island game yet)

aconnellan832d ago

More the tone of it - the tone of the trailer suggested something personal and dramatic, but the game was very much reminiscent of Left 4 Dead in that you were just there to kill zombies and nothing more

Ashby_JC832d ago

You play as a singular character there is no family involved at all in the game. Still a stand out trailer that I remember clearly from years ago.

Fntastic832d ago (Edited 832d ago )

Did you not like the game?

I remember going in expecting a L4D style of game, but the excessive camera swaying honestly made me feel ill, and it's rare for a game to do that to me, still don't understand why the need for anything other than maybe a subtle slight camera movement when doing melee attacks etc. Other than that i didn't really find the game that good. In all honesty i had more enjoyment out of DNF, and i know many people crap on that game.

BioShockGX831d ago

I still remember this misleading controversy

RickRoland832d ago

It’s the music. It’s perfect. I agree with this for sure, it is well choreographed….unfortunately the game didn’t live up to the trailer.

brewin831d ago

Maybe not, but it was still a good game. I liked how they expanded things with Dying Light, but Dead Island was a great first attempt! I really liked all the Easter eggs and homages to other horror franchises sprinkled throughout. Sure it was a little cheesy and over there top, but it was a good happy medium between Far Cry and Fallout with zombies.

EmperorDalek832d ago

I'm gonna heavily disagree with that.

CrimsonWing69832d ago

Have you ever seen any of the MGS 3 or MGS 4 trailers? Those blow this out of the water for me.

TricksterArrow832d ago

They require prior knowledge of the franchise, tho. You show this trailer to anyone, and I mean ANYONE, and they can understand what's going on and relate to the family dynamic almost immediately. No need to know who is Snake, or Fox Hound, or Raiden, or Metal Gear...

Top 10 Xbox 360 Games That Need to be Backward Compatible

Kevin F. from Link Cable Gaming writes: "Many of the best Xbox 360 games are playable on the Xbox One and Series X|S consoles. Some even with some enhanced visuals and performance. Unfortunately, not every game from the Xbox 360 library has received this glorious feat of being able to be played on more modern Microsoft consoles."

Max Payne 3 needs to be on that list.

autobotdan1046d ago

The Spider-man games will never happen. The xbox 360 Marvel Ultimate Alliance games have a better chance of happening than Spider-man titles but won't happen. The Xbox One Ultimate Alliance games delisted years ago

Vits1045d ago

Yeah... you can totally forget about those entries that got delisted because of licensing issues. Those are not happening.

MetalProxy1045d ago

Wait everything isn’t BC? You guys act like it is lol

porkChop1045d ago

Almost all of the games people want to play are BC, and that's a hell of a lot better than having none available.

ApocalypseShadow1045d ago (Edited 1045d ago )

Almost all the games people want to play? Not true. Majority picks screw over the minority who have games collecting dust. Metal is right. Fans make it seem that it's all. 39/997 games from OG Xbox is NOT all. 568/2154 from 360 is NOT all. But you guys play it up like it is.

And from my count, there are 4,000+ PS4 BC games on PS5 that I see. And almost every VR game. Series X has no Kinect games or Kinect 2. But you played that up too. No more dancing.

As for the article, some of the BC games make sense. The others with Spider-Man aren't happening.
