You read the title. You knew exactly who wrote it. You and I are now one.

You can expect these kind of statements from first party studios. They don't really impress me although T10 are a very talented bunch. Well so are Playground games who manged 4xMsaa which I have absolutely no idea what its about but the good folk on the internet tell me that it is impressive.

"The power of the cloud is providing the ability to update our Drivatar system"

Oh so the term is still being used by some devs. Very brave lol. In all seriousness, Drivatars are wicked. In Horizon 2, you can tell which one of your mates are prats lol. One of my mates in particular, his drivatar is a carbon copy of him.

I just want Drivatars to be a little bolder in copying driver traits. If someone is UTTERLY useless in following the lines then the drivatar should copy that to a tee. It usually does a good job in mimicking player behaviours but I think it needs to be more comprehensively applied (if it isn't already done so).

green3215d ago (Edited 3215d ago )

The thing with Drivertars is that the better you are, your level of progression and the difficulty you select for the drivertars, will determine how they drive.

For example, i am level 280 in FH2 so the drivertars i am paired with all start from level 180 and above, in other words very experienced drivers that are less likely to make mistakes. And since i set drivertar level to 'Unveatable', they are less likely to make mistakes. Even with that they are very life like and mess up sometimes.

As an example, on saturday, i played FH2 a lot because i am trying to complete it before FM6 is released, and on a street race i was in 4th. The 3rd driver was seriously trying to overtake the 2nd driver weaving left to right looking for an opportunity to pass with no luck, on a very fast right corner, he takes the outside lane to overtake (lack of patience) and drove straight into oncoming traffic.

The most obvious is cross country events, The cars use mutiple different routes and with the jumps, they can end up summersaulting.

There is obviously some room for improvement but in my opinion, drivertars far exceeds any traditional form of A.I i have ever seen in any racing game and is something all racing games should use.

Gazondaily3215d ago

"There is obviously some room for improvement but in my opinion, drivertars far exceeds any traditional form of A.I i have ever seen in any racing game and is something all racing games should use."

Ah yeah definitely agreed. Drivatars are the future. Truly. In fact, if a racer doesn't have that, it feels really lacking.

4Sh0w3215d ago (Edited 3215d ago )

hmmmm, @Cobra The Driveatars rarely ever plow into me....if anything in my experience they are not aggressive enough -in the heat of a race everytime a tactic I use alot is to bump them, this results in the AI Driveatars 8/10 times slowing down to give me the lead -my real life friends usually fight back for position= thats pretty much the only flaw I find in the Driveatar system.

GameNameFame3215d ago

Just to clarify on how "Drivatar" works.

Cloud do not run the AI. Cloud just gives you what preset your console will need to run AI.

So no. You are not running the most sophisticated AI or w/e with Cloud.Your X1 console is running the AI and your cloud just changes parameters on it. It isnt any more sophisticated than your regular AI. Cloud just gives more personality to it by changing AI parameters.

At the same time, fact that they could not get AI to work on Forza is astounding and their own admission of limited use of cloud.

We couldnt run AI on cloud, so we run it on console!

3215d ago
UKmilitia3215d ago

The thing is its not live AI,its more of a recording imo than actual AI.

LonDonE3214d ago

Agreed drivatars are one of the best things to have happen to racing games!
I hate playing racers without them now.

Other than your reasonable comment, we have to finally consider that this is the most advanced AI ever for a racer or any game. In my opinion that's innovation and Turn 10 need to get more credit for that accomplishment. Forza series is such a great seires. Wouldn't have been into racers if it wasn't for Forza.

Kal0psia3215d ago

Wow, inspired by the love I'm getting. Guess I said something right. ;D

frostypants3215d ago (Edited 3215d ago )

I too am excited to see what they can do with Forza 6. I played the HELL out of Forza 4 and am excited to see what they can do with a proper development cycle on the One, and 24 player Forza races will be freaking insane (the pileups will be epic). That said, the "CLOUD POWAH" crap has got too stop. Server-side processing is a very conventional capability, even if Turn 10 is leveraging it in an interesting way. I know they're just trying to make the marketing guys happy, but c'mon. It's not 2013 anymore...that Kool-Aid ran out. Just make an awesome game.

Nick_The_Slick3215d ago

Uh...except clouder power is coming full steam with Crackdown and its destruction..

frostypants3215d ago (Edited 3215d ago )

@Nick_The_Slick, sure it is. And I'm sure it will be something so mind blowing that developers the world over will be falling over themselves crying in amazement at how such a game would be impossible on any other platform ever. Also, I am being tremendously sarcastic, because I promise you that this won't happen. Mark my post and throw it in my face later if you like. You'll be disappointed, though.

donthate3215d ago

Cloud power hasn't even started yet.

There is a lot of work to overcome the latency issue and automating offloading tasks.

It is a very exciting time we are in, especially with all the awesome stuff coming to Xbox One!

:D

4Sh0w3215d ago (Edited 3215d ago )

@frostypants
Even if as you claim this is nothing more than "Server-side processsing" which has been done before, they/Microsoft have termed its use on X1 as "using the power of the cloud", is it marketing? -of course; but they are in fact using the Cloud, which is exactly what the terminology implies. The only question is WHAT & HOW much "power"=features/eha ncements the Cloud can offer in Forza and other real world games???

I think your bias is the major reason you have an issue with this news. I see NO reason Turn 10 needs to stop selling their game, like every other studio does. As a huge Forza fan I say as long as they dont say something ridiculous or feed me some obvious BS then I look forward to them continuing to hype their game. They have delivered time n time again, so yeah keep it coming.

They're still taking about the cloud and drivatars? Yikes.

plut0nash3214d ago

The only thing that matters is how interesting the Drivatars make the game world experience. How they leverage it is their own story. As to the power of the cloud, well there isn't proof that any game has benefitted in a huge way. A good game has to be made first.

Ashby_JC3214d ago

Im hoping that they lets us populate the field with specific drivatars.

So say I want to race against my buddies (friends list) drivatars.

Or drive specifically against the top racers on the leader boards.

I mean being able to hand pic my opponents would be great.

Yay Gamingbolt! Just when you thought they couldn't get more desperate for hits.

Like Septic said, this is a statement we can expect to hear from all 1st party developers and their respective systems, and it actually is a true statement. Simply because it's the 1st party developers that have the most experience with getting the most out of their respective platforms!

I think people already know the Xbox1 is a really capable system, and it's being proven by the people who are buying it, everyone is not a resolution or, frame rate addict.

bf0007779663215d ago

Yes, it's true, except that PS4 is a more powerful system.

3215d ago
Irishguy953215d ago

Thats right infected...a good variety of games being the main thing XD

Kingthrash3603215d ago

@infected
But we buy gaming consoles for games. And believe it or not the power level of a console matters. ..alot especially when pricing is involved. Today the xbox one is cheaper than ps4 as it should be but when it released it was a whopping 100 bucks more.
Right now it's 50$ cheaper but has less games..it introduced less new ips..has yet to release a new AAA ip since 2014 and won't until 2016...so I guess those apps and updates make up for all the gaming perks that are missing at the moment. But apps and updates don't sell consoles..they are just good things about it.
Don't get me wrong the xbox is indeed powerful. ..but it's not the most powerful. .nor does it have the most games...and being the richest gaming company who can afford to make great games and new ips or make a super powerful console they failed at that big time..and no app or update can abolish that basic gaming sin.

frostypants3215d ago (Edited 3215d ago )

@bf000777966, yes, the PS4 is more powerful. I'm gonna lay some points out in a way that will probably ensure that everyone disagrees with me:

-The PS4 *is* significantly more powerful
-The One has the superior menu system, and Xbox Live *still* has the better party/social mechanisms
-The One has more in common with the PS3 in terms of total media capability than the PS4 has. The PS4 is kind of a let down on that front (I still use my PS3 for anything non-gaming).
-The PS4 has more interesting and varied exclusives

To be brutally honest, both systems disappoint me somewhat. I want PS4 hardware and performance with the One's UI, and PSN's games.

Neither system gives me that "holy freaking mother of god" feeling that the launch PS3 did.

thexmanone3215d ago

Power does not matter to me, I buy it for the features. And the Xbox one is ahead in that department.

frostypants3215d ago (Edited 3215d ago )

@thexmanone, power IS a feature. Just sayin.

4Sh0w3215d ago (Edited 3215d ago )

Yes ps4 is more powerful but its not significant, I mean if you consider a good PC is substantially more powerful than both and in terms of the actual visual quality you see between console and pc games if we're being honest it really isnt a dramatic difference, pc games just generally look a little better in comparisons...so I just think although ps4 is more powerful than X1 #1 its more exaggerated by fanboys, #2 ps2 demonstrated power matters alot less than just having a large library of great games #3 the difference in quality of the games like every gen will be mostly determined by talent, resources, budget and passion. If anything Id say what ps4 has over X1 is definitely better brand recognition.

dantesparda3215d ago (Edited 3215d ago )

But the X1's UI is complete and utter garbage. I should know, I own it. You cant even look the game's update version on it so you have no idea what version you're on. And the way it updates games and the system is way worst than PS4, it can only download one thing at a time and its slow. And the list goes on but I'll just leave at that. And most of the missing features on either system is just temporary and can be patched in later so its not a permanent problem like the inferior hardware in the X1. But of these systems are ridiculously weak and could use all the power they could get. But its just that MS has been better at bringing out these updates faster than Sony has been (they've definitely been sucking in that area). But in my opinion, the X1's UI is crap and needs to be thrown out and start over, I hope the new Windows 10 UI is better, but we'll see.

Gunstar753215d ago

The difference is graphics appears to be fairly minimal.

The difference in everything else, is not. Xbox is shaping up to be the better all-rounder.

andibandit3214d ago (Edited 3214d ago )

speaks the truth, why just these last few days we've received a variety of games including:

Onechanbara Z2 Chaos - Action with a Scantily clad cowgirl dualwielding katanas...nuff said.

Hatoful Boyfriend - better known as "pigeon dating simulator", no it's actually not a joke...

Deception IV: The Nightmare Princess - Scantily clad woman(surprise) wielding...<whatever>

Drivetars should only be used in online challenge modes. Playing against Drivetars in career mode is worst than playing against A.I.that needs a fix. Another problem with Forza is drifting it doesn't work well even with it says "Perfect Drift "

Offtopic: What happen to the cloud with MS? They said Crackdown will showcase the power of the cloud. Hopefully MS will start to talk about the cloud power after that. They talk so much about it last year and nothing about it this year.

Its was one of their promises they better deliver. They've done well delivering on everything else lets hope this cloud talk is real and not just some PR hype.

Captain_Wormy3215d ago

It's not about the Cloud anymore. It's about DX12. Once DX12 dies down they're gonna come up with another bogus power boost to compensate for being weaker than its competitors. ;) 😂

AngelicIceDiamond3215d ago

A legit response would be nice.

What happened is likely what many have been saying all along: that it wasn't all Microsoft touted it to be.

Lenrulesdaworld3215d ago

cloud talk begins with crackdown, once thats out all else will come out on how it all works and if it's legit. They're just staying away being fanboys have turned the word cloud into a negative for the xbox brand.

javauns3215d ago

They stopped talking about the cloud and dx12 powering the xbox because the aren't 100% sure how it will work so instead they started taking a wait and see attitude. But for right now, first party multiplayer games run on dedicated servers so that where the cloud is right now, and drivatar.

SilentNegotiator3215d ago (Edited 3215d ago )

More importantly, WTF happened to Crackdown? I'm shocked that it skipped the last E3.

javauns3215d ago

it scale bound and quantum break are going to games com

NeoGamer2323215d ago

What do you mean there is nothing about the cloud now?

What were the Drivatars in Forza Horizon 2? What are the Shadows in Killer Instinct? What is Microsoft's continuum experience?

They may not be talking about it but they are definitely still using it...

And, after playing the last two Forza's I can't stand the AI in other driving games anymore. Drivatars making driving games interesting again.

Shadows make fighting games interesting again.

And the Continuum experience releasing with Windows 10 makes it easy for me to have many devices but not lose my user interface on any of them.

rainslacker3215d ago

I think they came to the conclusion that people weren't lapping up the PR on the cloud talk, so they either decided to stop talking about it because they realized people were expecting more of it than they could deliver, or they just decided to not push the issue until they had something worthwhile to show with it.

Probably the same reason they also don't talk much about DX12 in relation to X1, it's usually people outside MS that are making headlines with comments.

I find merit in showing not telling, because they haven't really done a great job describing what cloud power can do for the X1.

JeffGUNZ3214d ago

I'd expect to see it when they show Crackdown at Gamescom? That would be my best guess.

Top 10 Rarest Cars in Forza History

KeenGamer: "See the top 10 rarest cars to ever appear in Forza history! Thousands of cars have been featured in Forza since launch and only a handful of them have been really difficult to obtain or, in current state, impossible to drive around with. Although they were once obtainable, it's only for a limited time and, most times, for a certain price."

What's the benefit of delisting games? Curious.

Italiano12345671728d ago

Theres no benefit. They just dont renew the licenses for the songs and cars so after the 15th u cant buy it

mandingo1728d ago (Edited 1728d ago )

Oh licenses. That makes sense. So if you have it digitally already you can still play it you just cant buy it?

Cobra9511728d ago (Edited 1728d ago )

Yeah, the expiring-licenses thing is a blight on the scene. There literally ought to be a law. Once something is licensed for a product, it should never become an impediment later on. Simple consumer protection. In racing games, both the cars and the music would be locked in place. The developer can't add newer car models, or different songs. I don't see why that would hurt the profits of car companies or artists. Newer games would have to license the newer cars and songs, or even the same ones.

Edit: mandingo, that's right.

rainslacker1728d ago (Edited 1728d ago )

Saving on licensing costs.

@cobra

They could pay more for perpetual licenses, but after 4 years, chances are they arent going to be making much of a return on the game anymore.

lodossrage1728d ago

again, a music license issue. This is the same reason Driveclub is getting delisted next year.

I'm sorry, but if music rights can be the cause of a product being delisted, they need to either have unlicensed music because this is ridiculous. This is actually another reason to be concerned about an all-digital future.

bolimekurac1728d ago

or hopefully when ugly things stick their head out like this music license issue, that the companies do the right thing and find a solution so this doesnt happen, then we can complain if they dont. Digital games is fairly new so why dont we first see if the companies fix these issues that pop up. not that we shouldnt be heard and to let them know about these issues but at least lets not attack them for no reason

lodossrage1728d ago

@bolimekurac,

They've already had years to deal with this. This isn't the first instance of license music altering a game in some form. Crazy Taxi wasn't even allowed to be released with the original soundtrack and many of the real world stores in the game were cut for licenses.

I know it's not exactly' the same, but the issues is close enough that the industry as a whole should have realized this would be a problem even back in the ps3/ 360 era win crazy taxi was re-released for modern day.

traumadisaster1728d ago (Edited 1728d ago )

Oh crap idk about drive club, I’m so glad you mentioned it, and I just happen to be in this article. I’ve been wanting that game but was waiting until ps5 to get it. Now i need to check into this cause hell I’ll buy it now if I need to.

It looks like there is a hard copy version, so I can pick that up cheap, the online stuff which I don’t usually do is what goes away in 2020, and it can’t be bought on psn

KickSpinFilter1728d ago

Oh you should def get Driveclub such a great game now after server/updates. One of my all time fav racers. Nice mix of Arcade/Sim. Not Sim, Arcade or Sim/Arcade.

rainslacker1728d ago

I'd highly recommend bikes if you get driveclub. Lots of fun. The vr version is also good if you have psvr.

About the only thing you're going to lose with the delisting is the online functions as well. Driveclub is playable in SP with lots of content though. It's just being part of a club and user challenges or throw downs won't be available after they shut down the servers.

DaDrunkenJester1728d ago

Or it's not that big of a deal since it's a long running franchise and there is already the newer versions you can still buy. If you already own FM6 you can still play it.

spicelicka1728d ago

This is a definitely a huge concern for an all-digital future. Along the fact that they can control whatever price they want you to pay even 5 years later, like Destiny and Call of Duty. You can't even buy the original games anymore, they just re-bundle them and force you to pay full price again.

WiiU-Dude1728d ago

It happens in other entertainment too. I have seen DVD series held up for years because of music licensing issues. It is annoying. I agree with the person that it should be a one time deal. With the creation of a product, things like music licensing should be done with that product going forward. Such a headache apparently.
