Wow, horrible news. Rest in peace, my prayers go out to his family

Godspeed President Iwata

Kingthrash3603226d ago (Edited 3226d ago )

Wait. .no way. I thought it was satire...wow I'm super surprised. ...wow. rip. Sad day in gaming.
**----------moment of silence-----------**

Concertoine3226d ago (Edited 3226d ago )

God damn, out of no where. He's a controversial figure but his success cannot be denied. He headed the Wii and DS which made more money than any other platforms (note: profit, not sold). I feel bad for joking that the Wii U was dragging him down with it not too long ago.

He was also a meme machine with his bananas and direct hands. I'm very sad to hear this, he never even resigned so it must've been a swift death after a seeming remission. Otherwise he chose to head the company to the end, which is noble but i wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Who will even succeed him? I assume someone has been picked out if he has been sick for a while. I hope his successor doesn't push even more for mobile like the shareholders have wanted. Iwata refused to go there for so long because he was a game developer at heart and had too much pride to see Nintendo go there.

4Sh0w3226d ago

Sad news, RIP and best wishes to his family.

lociefer3226d ago

wth? this came out of nowhere ! im in shock , rip

Rookie_Monster3226d ago (Edited 3226d ago )

R.I.P, my friend. My prayer is with his family.

Bigpappy3226d ago (Edited 3226d ago )

Way too young. I am not far behind. He had a nice run. Nothing is guarantied in life, except that we are all going to die. If you keep that perspective then it will help you to be more humble. To care about the little things like breathing clean air, being true to who you are... rather than broader things that you have no control over: What religion or color someone is gay, who uses drugs...

Life is short, make the most of it.

Thank you for the fun moments you have contributed to so many Mr.Iwata. My condolences to his family.

brish3226d ago (Edited 3226d ago )

There are people who disagreed with Rest in Peace?!

*sigh* What is wrong with people?

Rest in peace Satoru Iwata.

ABizzel13226d ago (Edited 3226d ago )

That's really sad to hear, no matter how you feel about him at Nintendo CEO. I assumed something was really wrong with him to have missed so many shows as of late, but I wasn't expecting this.

RIP

Edit:

According to his team he died of Bile Duct Cancer. That's awful, and truly sad to hear, and a horrible way to go. I pray for him and his family, and glad to know he's finally move on from his illness.

Gazondaily3226d ago (Edited 3226d ago )

RIP. Prayers go out to his family. Shocking news

specialguest3226d ago

Wow... this is tragic. We are shocked from a gamers perspective, but I can't imagine what it's like for his family. RIP.

SilentNegotiator3226d ago (Edited 3226d ago )

Wow, I didn't even realize that he was ill. Only 55 :(

RIP Iwata

FlameBaitGod3226d ago

@bighappy

He had cancer tho, 1 that isn't curable but somewhat controllable from what I read

bouzebbal3226d ago

A very talented exec who took risks and contributed to Nintendo's successes.

BenRage33226d ago (Edited 3226d ago )

Even though this is very sad, it is almost comical how there are 1-3 disagrees for every condolence given.

"This is a sad day indeed" (Internet Coward: No it isn't! *Adds disagree vote*)

"Godspeed President Iwata" (Pimply fat troll: No! Go to hell! *Adds disagree vote*)

"Sad news, RIP and best wishes to his family." (Supreme loser without a special someone: It is not sad news! I hope he doesn't rest in peace and screw his family!*Adds disagree vote*)

Such is the Internets

He will be missed.

DragonKnight3226d ago

Rest In Peace Iwata-san. You helped bring joy to the world. Something we should all aspire to do.

TheRedButterfly3226d ago

A quote from this man: "Video games are meant to be just one thing. Fun. Fun for everyone"

Yes they are, Iwata. Yes they are. This industry owes you a lot. Probably more than we know. Thank you for what you brought to the world.

gaffyh3226d ago

Wow, I'm genuinely really surprised. I expected this to be a troll story. :(

Outside_ofthe_Box3226d ago

R.I.P. Iwata-san and thank you for your contribution on making gaming, the great experience it is today.

My condolences to the family and friends.

Rebel_Scum3226d ago

RIP Satoru ;__;

@Ben_Rage_3

I bloody hit disagree by accident because I was thinking about how stupid the agree/disagree system is. Doesn't encourage discussion. Whoopsy daisy. I couldn't agree more with your sentiments though.

mabreu3226d ago

We have lost a true legend in video games. Thank you Iwata, for making millions happy! You will be missed.

Sevir3225d ago

Just horrible! To pass at such a young age, this visionary introduced me to gaming back on NES, it's really sad to see a legend go. I'm so happy to see gamers coming together to pay there condolences to a man that brought so many innovations of fun in our lives...most of our gaming stories started with the games this man 30 years ago.

Rest in peace Iwata-san, to his family and friends and the team at Nintendo, I grieve with you and hold you all in my prayers

Testfire3225d ago

Wow, I'm so shocked right now. Just so sad, RIP Iwata. I came for my daily dose of news and I see this, I can't believe it. I wish his family the best in these trying times.

That was unexpected. RIP.

AndrewLB3226d ago

Very unexpected. Just about everyone who dies so young is completely unexpected. Then there are people like Keith Richards who everyone expected to not last past 50.
I didn't read the whole thing, but my guess is a heart attack with stress being a major factor.

fr0sty3226d ago

Damn... I wasn't exactly fond of the direction he was taking the company, but I still respect his contributions to gaming. Some of the best games ever made were made under his watch.

R.I.P.

VINNIEPAZ3226d ago

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!

Rest In Peace Iwata-san

A great man in gaming :'(

MEsoJD3226d ago

Wow, this was unexpected. I didn't know his health was that bad.

Tito083226d ago

I kind of knew he was in pretty bad shape after I saw the Direct during E3, he looked way too skinny & not in a positive mood, his health combined with the problems the company was going through probably stressed him out too much, he should of retired a long time ago, R.I.P smh.

Aceman183226d ago

Wow this so sudden and shocking. RIP :(

OCEANGROWNKUSH3226d ago

Rest in paradise Iwata, sad to see you go so soon, and so young.

DevilOgreFish3226d ago

That's so Terrible, my condolences to his family and friends.

3-4-53226d ago

* Was not expecting this. Extremely sad, I feel terrible for his friends and family.

R.I.P. Iwata, Thanks for the happy memories.

Side note....What kind of person disagrees with wishing a recent deceased human peace ?

kenshiro1003226d ago

I was in shock when I heard the news.

Rest in peace Iwata-san.

flyingwombat333226d ago

Indeed... This guys been around for a LONG time. Whether or not you like Nintendo now, pretty much anything you like in videogames was probably influenced by something that this guy had a hand in greenlighting. It's like hearing one of the Beatles died. This is something we haven't experienced tons of in this medium yet since it's so young; this is one of the first deaths of one of the grandfathers of the industry, and even then, he was still very young. Thank you for your contributions to interesting art, Mr. Iwata. The industry will feel your absence.

Spotie3226d ago

Didn't see this coming. Rest in Peace.

3226d ago
t-hall7853226d ago

Untimely, my condolence to the Family /

miyamoto3226d ago

Man this is devastating.

Rest in Peace Mr. Satoru Iwata

Viper73226d ago

Knew nothing about this as well.

Have to give it to the man though, even with ilness like this he still worked hard his remaining days to give fans what they wanted.

While I may not agree what all the stuff Nintendo does, this is a great loss for the industry.

Zombiesfeelpain3226d ago

I knew his health wasn't the best as he had to skip last years E3 but damn, Rest in peace Satoru Iwata, my condolences to your family and friends. <3

How Many More Victims, Like Garry's Mod, Will Nintendo's Hurtful Crusade Create?

Hanzala from eXputer: "As Nintendo takes out 20 years' worth of stuff from Garry's Mod, I watch in shock, thinking why it continues to hurt and discourage its fans."

RiseNShine8d ago (Edited 8d ago )

The irony that some of the most disgusting business practices come from companies like Disney or Nintendo, i can't even begin to understand what terrible damage was Garrys Mod making to Nintendo bottom line, imho they're getting pretty nervous about where they're heading in the future, handhelds are no longer something exclusive to Nintendo, from Steam Deck to many others, now you can play the latest games and pay a fraction of the price on Steam sales, so it's up to their exclusives, which just on their own would make hard to justify purchasing a closed overpriced hardware with outrageous price policies (Super Mario Odyssey is still 60 euro 6 years later!), and as a home console they're always underperforming compared to Sony or Xbox.

gold_drake7d ago (Edited 7d ago )

i cam guarantee you, that their exclusives alone is what drives switch sales. they sell in the 10s of millions of copies.

nintendo created their franchises to be sort of nostalgia driven, exclusive only on nintendo.

people will always buy the pkmn games as they always bring in new younger fans amd is family friendly

mario kart, the same thing, mario games in general.

zelda games are system sellers. animal crossing for the casual gamers.

nintendo doesnt need third vame devs essentially. they made sure with the switch and the limitations that they looked more to pc ps and xbox.

its sad, but nintendo is more than fine with what they're doing. they positioned themselves to appeal to the more casual gamers.

but to your point, im not sure why they're doing this rly.

Inverno7d ago

Look at how they handled Nintendo games being streamed or uploaded on YouTube in the past. They killed Yuzu and Citra even when they had nothing to do with ToTK being leaked, not to mention it was basically unplayable on emulation the week it was leaked. Smash Bros tournament, that was fairly recent. They shut down their online services without any care for purchases made. I bought a switch after skipping their last 2 consoles and handhelds but I don't plan on buying anything Nintendo in the future. They take things to the extremes, they legitimately hate their fans. They're honestly right up there with the likes of Acti, EA, and Ubi, only difference is that they disguise themselves as being family friendly all the while being shady.

Nintendo's Massacre Of The 3DS And Wii U Is Finally Complete, Regrettably

Hanzala from eXputer: "The cruel hammer of Nintendo has fallen. Farewell, 3DS and Wii U, you surely brightened my life and many others; you won't be forgotten."
