Activision CEO discusses the potential for Call of Duty remasters

For many Call of Duty fans, the series reached its pinnacle with early titles like Modern Warfare, Black Ops, and Modern Warfare 2. According to widespread fan demand, one of the best ways to keep the series healthy would be to revisit those earlier titles with updated remasters on the new batch of consoles.

Turns out Activision’s CEO, Eric Hirshberg, agrees with them—it’s just a matter of finding the resources to get them made.

Me too. All my favorite COD games are all the older ones. CoD2,Modern Warfare and Black Ops. These games remastered would look great on the new hardware not to mention that PS4 is now lead console hell yeah!

This is precisely why I don't think we'll see a COD 4 remaster. If they remastered that, a fair few of us wouldn't care for their future rehashes and would stick to playing that, that's pretty much what has happened on PC.

100% agreed! Anything after COD4 was just trash to me, it just got worse and worse as it went on.

Just remaster COD4 with better textures, animations etc....then step AWAY FROM IT! lol

I think we actually need remasters because the current Call of Duties are rubbish. I used to play COD a lot but it's been quite a while now and I'm starting to miss it a bit. The current ones are so crappy that there is no way I'm going to buy those..

I would definitely throw some money at a remaster which includes MW, WaW, MW2 and BO for example.

I would possible like a COD: Modern Warfare Collection, with MW and MW2 (they can forget about MW3...) although, like all remasters I would play it for about 2 hours then never touch it again!

The whole franchise is stale now, for me anyway, fortunately for Activision there are still millions of people who love the series and buy each iteration on launch day. So financially they don't have to change a thing!

I don't even know where they could go to spark life back into it now, perhaps just a two or three year hiatus, build a new engine and find a new setting and surprise us all!

If they plan to go the remaster route, they best do it properly.

Game 1: Modern Warfare / 2 / 3 with all expansions included (multiplayer maps and regular modes, no changing anything unless for stability - no hacks and dedicated servers)

Game 2: World at War / Black Ops / Black Ops 2 (same as Game 1.)

And then, as an added bonus, once you do this, START USING A NEW GAME ENGINE. The BO3 reveal looked like a pre ps3 game, while everything else (all the other game reveals) were looking pretty fly.

Weren't they making remasters of their games already? Just instead of adding "remastered" to the title, they upped the number or added a fancy new word, like Ghosts or Advanced Warfare.

The only game they should remaster is COD4MW. Just bring it back with all DLC maps, 1080P, updated graphics in general, but LEAVE EVERYTHING ELSE ALONE. If they change anything of the game, I won't buy it. Fixed Killstreaks, balanced perks, balanced weapons. The game was a gem.

The modern warfare franchise needs a remaster whereas 3yarch's weren't that memorable for me, they were pale in comparison. Most likely they'll make double pack with MW and BO only.

Who is stupid enough to buy remasters? They simply can't be doing any good for this industry, and us, the gamers.

Oh, and, Call of Duty is not hacked to death; it's from progressive tailoring of the netcode over the years to cater to every last soul on earth with any sort of internet connection. You know, to generate even more profits; at the cost of all sorts of insane lag! They have opened up geographical matchmaking so far and wide (increases latency), tick rates are set really low (reduces bandwidth required by clients), and lag compensation is now unlimited (increases delays you see from laggy players).

But what do I know? Go ahead; disagree!
