Pirate-themed, anime-inspired Japanese import Florensia Online has just entered "Western Global" open beta. Another Asian import MMO? Well, yes, but this does have some nice bits. Florensia is actually two games in one, a sea-faring game and a land-based adventure. You build experience in each separately -- so you can play the game entirely on the land or on the sea, or a combination. You can build your own ships from five basic hulls with dozens of add-ons to make your ship truly individual. There's five classes to start with, and soon there will be twelve, including extended classes. Sieges and faction wars are on the horizon.

Free-to-play onine gaming portal alaplaya has added a new profession system to the maritime fantasy MMORPG Florensia. Arriving as part of an overall expansion to the free-to-play game, characters in Florensia can now get to work on one of four available professions: Armor-smith, Weapon-smith, Goldsmith, or Alchemist. Hard work in these practical pursuits will enable players to craft helpful weapons, accessories, and potions to keep them afloat during their high-seas adventures.

There's lots of new games coming out next year. MMOs are hard to design though because of the massive multiplayer part but there should be good games released.
