Gears of War Xbox 360 vs. Xbox One Gameplay Comparison

The Gears of War: Ultimate Edition beta is running on the Xbox One at the moment so we captured a bunch of gameplay from the Gridlock and Canals maps and compared them to their original Xbox 360 counterparts.

I'm going to go ahead and say it, but why does the xb1 version look flat and washed out compared to 360? Ground shots and walls on 360 look bumpy as anything whilst they look flat as a pancake on xb1.

It's less 'shiny' but I'm a huge gears fan and have been since the beginning and let me say, the xb1 version looks uber clean in person, just feel sad the beta is about to end.

It doesn't in person. I have the original on 360 and obviously the beta on x1, and I can say that the x1 is far cleaner with way better textures and lighting!! Then there's the framerate, it's just way better in every way. Love it!!!

It looks like they've upped the resolution, but taken some of the detail out.

Glitches like that ruined gears for most of my freinds.. I hyped up gears MP with all my friends, and they all bought copies.. then they stopped playing after crab walkers and douchebags going "out of the map" would make a game of 5 rounds take like 30 minutes, and it also sucked when people would quit right when you are about to win. All these things are fixed, so, gears is back and it really IS better than before.

You could argue that right now is the golden age of gaming, but having gears and halo 3 at the same time was something else.

What this shows is that Epic were masters of using shiny surfaces and texture tricks to make you think you're seeing more detail than what was actually there.

They both look good. X1 obviously has more detail, but the 360 holds up really well thanks to some smart work done by Epic. Pretty impressive that you even have to think about it.

And it's becoming a new trend. I don't understand why more and more games are ditching shiny graphics with heavy lighting and contrast. Now resolution is such a big deal that everything is made flat so you can see the textures better.

But damn I love the lighting of the original gears of war.

I own a ps4 and pc, but i'll admit that Gears of War on the 360 was one of my fav games (series).

Gears of War on X1 should be awesome, just wondered if anyone can tell me?? Why are they not using Unreal Engine 4 for Gears of War 4??? I mean that engine is amazing!

Well my 360 red ringed of death so I am happy with my ps4. If things go well and Gears of War 4 and Halo 5 are epic games, i might get me a X1 sometime too!

Btw X1 fans or not, i hate this fanboy war. Both consoles are great, it's just we know the ps4 is better :P

Jokes aside, Gaming is awesome, whether its on console or pc or mobile, except on my s4mini...

I don't mind remasters, like TLOU was an epic remaster! This however at its current state, is bothering me.... At least the water is.....

Anyways, hope I did not make some fanboys mad, all consoles are great, X1 or PS4 or 360 or ps3. Just enjoy games.

People forget that Gears was the best in terms of graphics of the 360 last gen. No other game had better graphics on the 360 then this game. When it come out everybody was amazed.

Wasnt just the graphics that wowed it was the gameplay too.

The level of detail in the gore and the lancer kills was unheard of, i remember my parents cringing lol

60fps feels amazing for this game but I'm a little let down that the game looks washed out on xbox one. I prefer the textures and lighting in the original... hope it's just a beta issue that will be fixed prior to launch.

Beta was amazing but mostly bc of the gameplay and feele of getting gear on xb1 for the first time. The graphic will be upgraded by release for sure more blood and more detail. It runs at 1080 and 60fps so that is enough said in itself it looks amazing while running smooth. Cant wait for the release!

The Xbox One version has better lighting also the 360 version was really dark, i guess it was done to cover up some poor details. Definitely picking this up cant wait to start the chainsaw duels.

Was that confirmed for BC? That's a strange move by MS marketing team, I imagine they will tactically decide what gets given BC and what doesn't based on whether a remaster is coming out or if the game already exists on Xbox One (for eg CoD:AW)

it plays miles better than gears 1 one 360 - any fan of the first gears would be ridiculous not to take advantage of the improvements they made in FPS, connection, and movement/mechanics

I understand your point but gow UE will be full of players so you wont be stuck playing execution on gridlock over and over, dedicated servers so you wont have to put up with overpowered hosts, the pc content that us 360 owners never got and entry into the gears 4 beta.

All in all its a good deal they might even release a dlc 5 months down the line.... Fingers crossed its operation midnight.

Good god, Gears of War 1 has aged incredibly well, wow! What game from 2006 still looks that good?

Also, it's annoying that they've disregarded the original game's aesthetic in favour of the newer GeOW look. I felt this this way about GeOW 1 to GeOW 2, and my opinion still hasn't changed; the original had a subtly gothic (more obvious in some locations) and gloomy vibe quite reminiscent of a horror game, the new palette is too vivid and colourful.

All they needed to do was up texture resolution and improve the lighting. They have completely changed the feel of the enviornments, making them seem a lot more sterile.

To be honest, I just want Hoarde mode back other wise the multiplayer game is just a playground for snipers and shotgun players. The machine gun is about as useful as making paper darts with damp paper.

May be a PS4/WiiU AND Xbox One owner soon, I bought a X360 back in 2008 for Gears, and since the original current-gen consoles are now very cheap, I may just pick one up.

Ediots! As an elite gears of war Plyer and fan, this is not a port of the original game from the 360.any true fan would know that. First of all, the gameplay is not the same,the game is hit detection,movement are all unbalanced.what's the sense of having dedicated servers when you get the drop on somebody with the shotgun and they turn around shoot you once and you die?

The beta has a long way to go before it marches the perfection of the original. The sound effects are terribly off,the turn and movement speed is ridiculously slow and off,its hard to line up shots,due to the game unbalanced and slow reaction times and the hit detection a lot of times feels like you are shooting blanks.fix please. Also the gears of war three sensitivity is off and needs to go.bring back the low ,medium and high settings.

As far as the gfx comparison go's it looks really good in person but watching this video on the web the 360 version looks better lol the beta looks brighter than the original but I guess at the end of the day in person it looks better than the original, at least in some areas.the water on the gridlock level looks fake on the one.
