The Order: 1886 studio Ready at Dawn is creating exclusive VR game for Oculus

VB:
With new platforms come new alliances. Ready At Dawn Studios made The Order: 1886 for Sony’s PlayStation 4 earlier this year. So you might expect the Irvine, Calif.-based studio to make a game for the Sony Morpheus virtual-reality headset.

But Ready at Dawn is prepping an exclusive title for the rival Oculus Rift, which is debuting early next year from Facebook’s Oculus VR division. Ru Weerasuriya, the president and chief creative officer of Ready At Dawn, announced the game on Thursday at the Oculus press briefing.

If true, then this might give credence to recent rumors that Sony dropped them.

no_more_heroes3246d ago

I know. I meant as a go-to 2nd party dev.

starchild3245d ago

That's completely true, Sony never owned them. They did have a tight relationship with Sony, though, and most of their games were exclusive to Sony platforms, and this approach appears to be changing.

Personally, as I've said since The Order 1886 came out, I thought it was a decently good game. It needed a little more depth and more exciting gameplay scenarios, but I thought the story and presentation was quite good. And the gameplay wasn't "bad", it was merely kind of average. But I do think this studio has a lot of potential.

@Majin-Vegeta agreed.

The lolz just keep on coming.

@N0_more- " I meant as a go-to 2nd party dev." Sony doesn't make that choice though lol.

They are an independent team, The Order is Sony's IP...

They were contracted to do The Order...thats it.

Sony doesn't own them, has no choice over where they go etc. Mind you, this just means they are also working on something else, I don't think it means they are some how ONLY working on that and not working on anything else.

People said the same thing after they did the Wii port of Okami... And then they ended up launching a new game. Sony didn't drop them as a partner, I mean come on they just launched a game to moderate commercial success... You expect them to announce an new game for PS4 5 months later?

People got all up in arms when Insomniac announced they were no longer solely doing PS exclusives, especially after how RESISTANCE 3 performed commercially, and after they went multiple platform... And look where we are... People just need to chill.

Yeah, just as much as Insomniac "dropped" Sony by making Sunset Overdrive exclusive to the Xbox One. Yet they're still doing R&C exclusive for the PS4. Business is business. "Dropped" in this context is a stupid word. No one owns anybody.

Pandamobile3246d ago (Edited 3246d ago )

I never said they were owned by anyone. I was just countering the first guy's comment.

Though they've clearly ended whatever exclusivity deal they had with Sony if they're making a game for Oculus VR.

LexHazard793246d ago (Edited 3246d ago )

Sony never owned them..lol

Edit: my bad Majin didnt see your comment..

donthate3246d ago

It wouldn't matter, as The Order 1886 wasn't good at all so I am moderately excited for this.

showtimefolks3246d ago

Best of luck ready at dawn. Great memories so far for Playstation ganers, now I hope more gamers get to enjoy your games

As a playstation gamer thank you. Part of Me wanted Sony to acquire you but I respect the fact you guys want to stay independent

Best of luck again

MrDead3246d ago (Edited 3246d ago )

Why would they bother making a multiplatform engine that the Order was created on if they were going to stay with Sony? RAD wants to be independent.

Peace_Love_and_FPS3246d ago

Being independent would be good for them, oculus is giving money to indie studios that develope for the rift too so it makes sense. I didn't know that it was a multiplatform engine, could be interesting to see if they bring it to Morpheus too, maybe even Vive as well!

UltraNova3245d ago

@Peace

"...oculus is giving money to indie studios that develope for the rift too so it makes sense."

If they are to succeed they need many exclusives, aka reasons people need to be convinced to buy their VR unit. I can assure you that the money they give to indies for developing Rift games are not free and surely come with some kind of exclusivity deal to boot.

DevilOgreFish3246d ago

Kojima should team up with RAD and help put them in a direction.

someOnecalled3245d ago

This mean PS fanboys will change their tune about them soon.

krypt19833245d ago

@starchild no sony owned every game they made and like insomniac they are feed up with that shit and want there own ip and now that's what they are doing by going multi plat...

That's fine. GT7 would overshadow it anyway at it has open wheel and regular cars.

Should have been spending their time updating Squadrons with better resolution, frame rate, haptics, etc as there isn't a game like that on PS VR 2 yet.

But it's EA. They don't think.

Babadook7356d ago

I agree. It would sell better on PSVR2 right now.

Knushwood Butt357d ago (Edited 357d ago )

A wasted opportunity, but I don't buy EA / Codemasters stuff anyway. Grid Legends just came out on Plus and I haven't touched it. Why would I when I have GT7 and PSVR2?

Abnor_Mal357d ago

Not into F1 racing, but still a missed opportunity.

ApocalypseShadow357d ago

That's where opportunity presents itself that they could offer something else that other developers haven't offered yet. Yeah. There's No Man's Sky. But a space game with a story would be great. Like the old days with Colony Wars.

Abnor_Mal357d ago

Exactly, they could have possibly lured more players just from the inclusion of a vr mode.

I miss Colony wars and G-Police, Low-Fi I hope will scratch that itch when it releases. We also need a vr War/Starhawk game.

Knushwood Butt357d ago

Just watched the trailer of Low-Fi. Most definitely on my radar.

Although I never owned an oculus, I played the demo for this at an electronics store. Pretty impressive in an early goings of VR title.
