Maybe they just want to know if people would purchase an open world western game, so they put red dead 2. Would you be more likely to purchase red dead 2 over the other games if it came out ? That's kinda what they meant by the question. Possibly, they want to see if they should make an assassin's creed in old west. They also had Skyrim 2.
Plus Everyone knows that rockstar will be making a red dead sequel, that is a no brainer.

Maybe do the same as Uncharted, drop the multiplayer and include a beta for 2's MP. The only thing I don't like about that is it usually uglies up the box art with the 'beta access included'.

People move around within the industry and you can't just forget everything you know about your former employer. Sure they are covered by an NDA but it's easy to let slip information like that.

True. We know a RDR is coming. Rockstar has hinted about it in the past. Probably won't get released until 2017 though. I expect we won't see anything at this E3, but stranger things have happened. We'll see.

I did read the article. Game companies always do speculation in their surveys to gauge what possible sequels people are interested in. It is also a way to gauge how soon is too soon for a sequel

That another Red Dead exists is as surprising as Fallout 4 – we know both were going to happen. The real question is what it actually looks and plays like and I doubt that Ubisoft could answer either of those questions. Next people will be "leaking" the existence of Grand Theft Auto VI.

You would be surprised just how much the big names know about each others projects, ever wonder why so many companies just happen to have been doing VR headsets at the same time? Why games get pushed back for "polishing"?Take AMD for example, they had copies of the gtx 980 it months before it was even announced.
