Sony, Bethesda and Others Are Firing E3-Like Shots Way Before E3; What Gives?

E3 has always been seen as a time of surprises and massive announcements, with the major developers and publishers going into stealth mode during the couple months before the show, leaving everyone holding their breath and wondering what will be announced.

This year you saw the culmination of a trend of which a few hints emerged last year. Publishers have pulled out the big guns, and they’re firing shots that in the past would definitely have been considered of E3 caliber.

Most of the "surprises" that people consider can be guessed by a 2 year old. Especially the yearly games and over milked games. But for the most part, I think there will be a few TRUE surprises like there always are each year tangled in with the games we already know will be announced.

It's nothing new. Especially with the internet these days, secrets are a little harder to keep. All I know is that I myself am hoping for some Fallout, Battlefront, with more Metal Gear and No Mans Sky gameplay!

I'm willing to bet one of Xbox's surprises will be that Hideo Kojima has signed($$$$$$)on to join team Xbox!?!?

Just a hunch

johndoe112113262d ago

I'm willing to bet you will NOT see that.

thehitman13983262d ago

Just like every xbone lover that wants to believe that they have the better system.

It's just not true no matter how much fluff you try to believe.

remixx1163262d ago

Next time put the /s at the end.

Benchm4rk3262d ago

@thehitman

Just like every sony fan wants to believe having the most powerful console is whats best for everybody. Better being subjective. What is best for you may not be best for others. For example i have a good paying job and could afford to buy really powerful performance cars but instead i bought a 7 seat suv as i have 4 kids and the more powerful car was not best for me. I have an Xbox One and it is the better system, for me. So what is best for you is not the best for everbody... It's just not true no matter how much fluff you try to believe

Pwnage2u3262d ago

You have a greater chance of seeing The Last Guardian at e3.

Army_of_Darkness3262d ago

A game trailer to catch my attention before E3 to get me interested, then reveal a gameplay demo at E3 to confirm a potential buyer.

MaxKingoftheWild3262d ago

@benchmark - if you are going to do a car analogy then at least do it right. If the xbox is an suv then the ps4 is the suv with leather and navigation. If the ps4 is a performance car then the xbox is one with less horsepower and torque. Ps4 is better. That's flat out fact. Preference might play a part in purchasing a system but you can't spin the facts.

BeefCurtains3262d ago

Nice, E3 article evolves in to fanboy flame comment section. Who would have guessed.

They can't wait an entire year for reveals anymore, the target age group of gamers is impossible to satisfy and they have no attention span to wait for E3. This technological age of information makes it very difficult to keep anything a secret anymore.

Benchm4rk3260d ago

@Max

You missed the whole point of the analogy. What is better is SUBJECTIVE not FACT. Being more powerful does not make a console better. The Original Xbox was far more powerful then the PS2 and was capable of playing games that just was not possible on the PS2, did that make it better or not. This gen people seem to think that power is everything. That may have been the case when consoles just played games. Now Consoles do much more then that. Like i said before its Subjective not Fact.

TheGreatGamer3263d ago

All these games mentioned we knew were coming but I just hope no actual surprises get leaked before E3

Revolt133263d ago

I would have liked to see trailer officially announcing Dark Souls 3, rather then leaked screenshots weeks prior to E3.

WildArmed3263d ago

That's the bigger problem. Over the past few years, E3 has had most of their big announcements leaked.

(Including Bloodborne!!)
Now they just announce the game, and just wait to show us the goods on E3. I guess they want to build up hype so people that didn't they had a reason to watch, will watch.

joab7773262d ago

I think I know why. Certain titles will drown out everything else. Certain announcements need their own spotlight, not thrown in with 100 other announcements.

In Bethesda's case, we will see more footage and get a release date, but we will also focus on other things shown b/c we have already processed the giddiness that is F4.

Sony may want the focus on Uncharted 4. It may simply be about focus. A Nathan Drake Collection would have been a lot less exciting squeezed into everything else Sony will show.

itsjustexuma3263d ago

Maybe they have a lot of E3 surprises and cant fit into an hour and a half so that is why they are showing it now to get us all hyped

kneon3263d ago (Edited 3263d ago )

Some of the "leaks" are deliberate. This happens for all big conferences, not just E3.

The problem with announcing things at big conferences is that only the top few products will get most of the press, everything else gets lost in the noise. Announcing ahead of time means you can get your product notices for a few days without being drowned out.

The 10th Rider3262d ago

Yeah, I'm pretty sure similar sentiments have been expressed in previous years.

"Wow, look at everything leaked!"
combined with
"Wow, look at what we KNOW is going to be there!"

Those ultimately led to a some disappointment because there really hasn't been a ton of huge surprises the past few years once you take those out.

d_g3263d ago (Edited 3263d ago )

i think sony and microsoft will have so much more surprises in E3 2015

Excited to see sony new Ip horizon, god of war 4 and microsoft new Gears of war, scalebound

and i hope there will be PS4 price cut (that will be Great)

SpaceRanger3262d ago

Nice stealth edit.
Your comment originally said something along the lines of:
"Check out this funny video about Sony's E3, it's just for trolling."

This is the second time you've posted it. How can you say that you're done with this "ridiculous fanboy war" when you keep posting this off topic video in random comments? Talk about hypocritical.

WizzroSupreme3263d ago

Maybe it's because they already have bigger guns to shoot at the convention, I hope I hope.

I Think It's About Time We Realize Fallout 4 Wasn't That Bad

Ahmed from eXputer: "2015's Fallout 4 received harsh criticism upon launching, but I think it was unwarranted and the game deserves more praise than it got."

helicoptergirl3d ago

It was totally that bad. I couldn't finish the campaign it was so bland and boring as I recall. Got so sick of it. 1000 stimpaks on hard. It is very rare that I play half a game and then just quit. I usually always finish it. But i was so bored with this game I just stopped and never went back and never regretted it. Just thinking about that game makes me shudder

Furesis3d ago

That's exactly what happened to me too lmao
Fallout 4 is not a fallout game period it's a bethesda game

Vits3d ago

The comparison with Skyrim is mind-boggling. Yes, Skyrim has streamlined many of the systems that Morrowind introduced. However, it did not tamper with the core of the Elder Scrolls franchise; it did not diminish the freedom and sense of exploration that made Bethesda RPGs famous. Fallout 4, on the other hand, did exactly that to the Fallout series. It eliminated what made Fallout such a beloved series to play. There are no consequences for your choices, no reason to explore, and barely any interesting set pieces in the game.

It's not terrible, but it's a painfully mediocre game in a franchise that typically doesn't produce such mediocrity. So that is why people see it as bad, the bar is just much higher.

anast3d ago

They both feel the same because they are, it's just that one has swords and magic and the other has swords and guns.

anast3d ago

I'm replaying it now. It sucks. I'm about 30 hours in and thinking about quitting again. I am so tired of the dialogue I just spam a random button because it doesn't matter. The upgrade just feels like a graphical mod, everything else is not good.

Good-Smurf3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

I couldn't play the game as-is it was insanely boring and grindy and the grind itself are not fun at all.
Mods helped me stomach the game a bit better but after a while I just stopped playing and uninstalled it because the game did nothing after the first few hours to give me any motivation to keep playing it, it just became a mindless looter shooter with obsession in settlement building and defending.
Compared to F3 and FNV, F4 was barely a mediocre game it wasn't bad but it's also very forgettable entry.

MrDead3d ago

It's not that bad after 300+ mods that fix it's issues and make the game fun... but lets not talk about mods right now as they are f****d.

They really need to get rid of weapon mods and bring back more unique weapons that are hard to get / find

anast4d ago

They won't improve it other than a slight graphical upgrade. They have always been better at live action than making games.

MocBistro4d ago

Only way it could improve is taking it away from Bethesda and regroup Classic Fallout (1&2) devs with decent budget and time to make it.
