Hope that's true. MS and Sony need to stop throwing money and marketing at Activision. See how they get by on the quality of their games, rather than the huge commercial blitz that usually carries them.

Last year both MS and Sony opened their E3 presentations with a hype video for their respective Activision deal (COD and Destiny). That wasn't a coincidence, and it wasn't a reflection on the quality of those games. Pure $$$. Curious to see how prominently they feature this year.

PSVita3270d ago (Edited 3270d ago )

MS started it last gen and people fell for it so can you really blame them?

PistolsAtDawn3270d ago (Edited 3270d ago )

Oh come on, it existed long before Xbox did. Funny how several fanboys call MS evil for this and say COD is dead...bet money if Sony has an exclusive deal...ALL THE SUDDEN these same fanboys will say COD is amazing and Sony are genius' for locking up the deal. Bottom line is these kinds of deals are meant to compete with exclusives on the "other side". Right now MS is investing in 1st party deals (which is what we want right????), Sony's 1st party line up this year is weak...so they are going the exclusive DLC route...it's how the business goes.

...war never changes

TheCommentator3269d ago

Sony started doing exclusivity long before MS with games on PS2 like GTA3/Vice City and even back to PS1 with FF7 and many others, but what's your point? MS copied that approach with 360 but started things like Background Music, DLC, Guide access during gameplay, Gamertags, Friends Lists, Achievements, XBLA, and Smart Glass, all of which (and more) got copied by Sony.

joab7773269d ago

MS should stop it. It's great for Activision. Despite the exclusivity, just as many, and now more (this gen), play on Sony.

For MS, it's a bad deal now. They can only lose. MS owners expect it, and it doesn't seem to entice anyone new b/c ppl know where they are gonna play CoD. PS players don't care anymore. It's become status quo for MS. They are better off just ending it.

Yeah MS need to cut the ties off with this marketing deal. As big a franchise as COD is, MS have had this relationship for quite long now and even still, I don't see many benefits now, what with the PS4 versions outselling their X1 counterparts anyway.

Also, I hope we don't get another drawn out presentation at E3 like last year. Gosh that was frustrating.

dancerOfDeath3270d ago

I agree, would be happy to see this deal end. Sick of seeing COD as the opener at E3. Sick of the games, AW was my first COD game since BO2 and it was so completely underwhelming that I doubt I will ever go back to the series again unless they make massive changes.

Too many great shooters and games coming for COD to be hogging the limelight.

Italiano12345673270d ago

Yup it's going to Sony as well as batman and star wars

DillyDilly3270d ago

Now Sony becomes its own worst enemy. The tables I would not be surprised if flipped next gen

MasterCornholio3270d ago (Edited 3270d ago )

Not really. They are taking the advantage of being ahead of the competition. I'm pretty sure that these company's want to work with Sony more than Microsoft because they know that their games will sell better on the PS4.

Its just business and doesn't affect 1st party games.

As for the table turning. I honestly doubt that the XB1 will ever catch up to the PS4.

Gazondaily3270d ago

"As for the table turning. I honestly doubt that the XB1 will ever catch up to the PS4"

I don't think he was suggesting that...

MasterCornholio3270d ago (Edited 3270d ago )

@Septic

No idea what he's suggesting then.

I mean if he's using last gen as an example Sony ended up overtaking the Xbox 360 by producing a ton of great 1st party games. I honestly dont see that happening with the XB1 because even if Microsoft produces better games than Sony the PS4 will end up selling more.

That's why I find his comment confusing.

Eterna1Ice3270d ago

Sony becomes a Giant. Enemy. Crab.

Volkama3270d ago

Meanwhile in their deepest darkest R&D labs Microsoft are working on something special: Realtime Weapon Change. This console war aint over yet.

TheCommentator3269d ago

You can attack its weak spot for massive damage... in 4D!

ger23963270d ago

Next gen? This gen just started.

ScorpiusX3270d ago (Edited 3270d ago )

Kind of tough call seeing on how Phil mentions at E3 2014 that Xbox one will continue to receive Exclusive DLC first and what about the COD tournament sponsorship they having going on . Could be PS get marketing and Xbox keeps getting the DLC first.
To be honest am quoting Sony fans here "why haven't they screamed it from the mountaintops". Guess E3 the best chance at finding out.

EvilWay3270d ago (Edited 3270d ago )

Yea I don't see how Sony would get the rights for the DLC since they got a renewed 3 year deal last year, if I remember correctly. Xbox also sponsors eaports so don't expect them to take that from MS

I say let them take the shitty Cod DLC first and spend money they should be using on exclusives instead of Cod DLC

marlinfan103270d ago

I'm pretty sure they only renewed the exlcusive dlc for advanced warfare last year

hello123270d ago

Microsoft wanted to keep the deal it would happen (money talks)

If Sony has the marketing rights Microsoft dropped them simple as that.

Like all Marketing deals its never about which console is winning it has always been about whos willing to spend the must.

The bigger catch for Sony was Battlefront. Everyone knows COD is available for xbox one.

Its strange last gen Microsoft was more about third party Sony first party. Its the opposite this gen weird.

Personally i prefer this gen to last gen more first party games is always better.

Volkama3270d ago (Edited 3270d ago )

Battlefront is a big contract, yes. Starwars is a far-reaching IP.

Activision team is opening a new game studio in Poland 'Elsewhere Entertainment' to build new AAA IP

Microsoft's Activision subsidiary announced today that it is opening a new game development studio to take advantage of the huge talent pool growing in Poland. It'll be the second Activision studio based in the region, joining Infinity Ward Krakow, although this studio is, in fact, not working on Call of Duty.

Microsoft's quest for short-term $$$ is doing long-term damage to Windows, Surface, Xbox, and beyond

Microsoft is pushing for no "red line" for what games could come to PlayStation, and it all revolves around Satya Nadella and CFO Amy Hood's plans to increase every department's margins.

"The plan to move Xbox games to other platforms is codenamed "Latitude" internally, and I know there's debate and unease at Microsoft about whether or not this is a good idea. More upcoming Microsoft-owned games slated for PlayStation are already being developed. At least for now, they're potentially obvious games you'd most likely expect. And yes, while it's true Microsoft is a prolific publisher on PlayStation already, it has typically revolved around specific franchises like Minecraft. From what I've heard, Microsoft is pushing for no "red line" for what games could come to PlayStation, and it all revolves around Satya Nadella and CFO Amy Hood's mandate to increase every department's margins. "

Yeah, they are going to kill Xbox hardware.

Xeofate1d 19h ago

"Yeah, they are going to kill Xbox hardware."

It's for the best.

Quit stringing along xbox fans and screwing over PlayStation owners.

crazyCoconuts1d 15h ago

Take good care of those Xboxes if you have 'em ...

outsider16241d 15h ago

An Xbox game on a Playstation. Never in my years of gaming did i ever thought this was gonna happen.

jznrpg1d 10h ago

It is dying anyway so doesn’t make much of a difference

VersusDMC1d 10h ago

No way can they get rid of the hardware as probably 90% of game pass subscribers are hardware users.

Highly doubtful those users will move to PC or Cloud to subscribe there and the competition (Sony and Nin) will never have gamepass on their system.

If they want to keep the current subscribers, they need to keep releasing new hardware.

PSPSA1d 1h ago

I'm not convinced, why then announce that they're actually working on the next-generation Xbox with “the largest technical leap”, and also looking into handhelds now?

Rols1d ago

Not like MS don’t drop things a hot potato if it is not performing. Look at MS history to see products or platforms discontinued. Xbox is not a charity for MS, it needs to make money and the ABK was the last roll of the dice for Xbox.

purple10123h ago

Xbox hardware team members have been incorporated into surface team

This perhaps shows they are not expecting big things from Xbox as a separate entity

Abear2120h ago

Seems like they are planning to win next gen. All the acquisitions were this generation and nobody except Xbox fans expect games from the acquisitions any time soon.

I’m sure Microsoft can afford to lose money on the short term, pretty sure they do risk assessment when acquiring many companies and spending billions, they’ll be fine lol.

i think it will kill off the xbox brand. windows will be fine.

but there is and would be a chance that xbox might be killed off in the future. if they fail to make the money they put in. imo.

S2Killinit1d 18h ago

They wont kill it, but they will go fully PC while keeping xbox as a brand, and go multiplatform for the most part. They will also work tirelessly to diminish console gaming’s importance.

PRIMORDUS1d 15h ago

It would be best if Xbox goes the way of Sega, just make and publish games. I know I myself will not support them at all with buying games from them, you all can. 🙃

ChasterMies1d 14h ago

The Xbox brand will live for the games. I don’t expect Microsoft to entirely drop out of gaming hardware. They make Surface tablets and laptops. They’ll make Xbox branded hardware for those that want it.

Forza and Starfield next?

ocelot071d 19h ago

I'm hoping for age of empires

Skuletor1d 19h ago

Starfield would be no surprise and there's the rumor that it will come to Playstation after the Shattered Space DLC, Forza (along with Halo and Gears of War) I find less likely but I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually end up on PlayStation too, especially if Xbox give up on hardware and go the Sega route.

shinoff21831d 19h ago

Not to worried about forza. I'd rather see others like what inxile and obsidian are working on. Starfield sounds like it needs more time in the oven so let it cook first imo. If starfield and it's a small if does release on ps it'll be in the fall around the time for dlc or right at the dlc and come packaged with it.

In the words of Phil Spencer when he was talking about Nintendo last year

“It's just taking a long time for Microsoft to see that their future exists off of their own hardware"

S2Killinit1d 18h ago

Yup. MS are a cancer to console gaming.

Aloymetal1d 18h ago

100%!!
I wonder what happened to that dude that was always here posting those court articles with cartoons about MS spending all those billions in studios. He suddenly disappeared, I guess he doesn't like bad news when the green brand is in trouble. No new articles from him as of late...

PRIMORDUS1d 15h ago

Yup, and it's only going to keep spreading.

Phil Spencer's words always comes back to bite him lol

Microsoft's Absurd Antics Have Me Scared For Dishonored And Arkane Lyon's Future

With Arkane Austin no more and Lyon living for who knows how long, the superb Dishonored is in serious danger; Microsoft cannot be trusted.

Relientk773d ago

I love the Dishonored series so much and really want Dishonored 3. Microsoft better not screw this up.

JEECE3d ago

I mean, I think the fans will probably kill Arkane Lyon by cooking up reasons to hate whatever they do next without playing it. I've never seen a game so artificially disliked as Deathloop.

thesoftware7303d ago

Lol, why don't we just say, we are worried about all studios owned by MS now. They will keep closing studios until they have none left ...🙄

Skuletor3d ago

Just merge them all into a single studio, have it churn out a single Call of Duty every year and call it a day, lol.

Barlos3d ago

Don't be scared, you'll be fine.

Skuletor3d ago

It's exputer, fine is one word I would not associate with them.

Profchaos3d ago

I think it's becoming clear based on matt bootys comments there's no future for any IP that can't sell above 10 million within the launch window. But is also a small game that gives them prestige

/S it's beyond a joke right now
