Five game prequels that did the original game justice

With Resident Evil Zero HD being announced it’s a reminder that prequels do have a place in video games and not only in movies. It often expands on the origins of the original story by giving players insight into events leading up to the first experience you ever had with a particular franchise.

Not even Yoshi's Island as an honorable mention? Shameful

eddieistheillest3299d ago

Halo Reach too, was awesome IMO . I heard good things about the boarderland pre-sequel.

Halo2ODST23299d ago

Damn, Reach turned out to be my favourite halo game & my favourite game so far. It gave me high expectations for halo 4, shame that didn't work out.

DarkOcelet3299d ago

Bioshock Infinite isn't exactly a prequel. It happens at the same time as Bioshock 1 takes place, that's all.

DarkBlood3299d ago

Are you sure? While I acknowledge your statement, it wasnt how I understood the ending or the lighthouse scene as confusing as it is anyways lol

goldwyncq3299d ago

Not really. Burial at Sea leads directly to the events of the first Bioshock game, making Infinite effectively a prequel.

Forgot all about crisis core. That was a great game!

Kurisu3299d ago (Edited 3299d ago )

I'm surprised they haven't remastered it to be honest. I'd rather that than the PS4 PC port of the original FFVII that we are getting.

Also they have still yet to release the last part of the compilation in the West, Before Crisis. I doubt we'll ever see that though, but you never know. They could make a fortune for that on iOS and Android.

ninsigma3299d ago

I was thinkin that as well, strange they haven't done it.

Didn't know that even existed. Just looked it up there, definitely the only mobile title I'd actually be willing to spend money on!

Jubez1873299d ago

I'm hoping for FFVII and Crisis Core 2 in 1 remake on PS4. That would break the internet..

Kurisu3299d ago

Yeah, I'd pay if it was reasonably priced. I think in Japan SE released different downloadable episodes, which you had to buy separately. I'd say that's why it was exclusive to that region, as mobile gaming wasn't really a thing like that over in the west back then.

ninsigma3299d ago

I think it would sell well now. Even if it was released on the vita that would be cool. We can live and hope square one day grows a brain xD

Ranking the Devil May Cry Series

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "Upon finally finishing Devil May Cry 5 recently - after it spent several years on my “I’ll play that soon” list - I considered giving it a fittingly-named Late Look article. However, considering that this was indeed the final piece I was missing in the DMC puzzle, I decided to instead take this opportunity to take a look back at the entirety of this genre-defining series and rank the entries. What also made this a particularly tempting notion was that while most high-profile series have developed fairly evenly over time, with a few bumps on the road, the history of Devil May Cry has, at least in my eyes, been an absolute roller coaster, with everything from total disasters to action game gold."

First to last for me...3,4,5,1,2.

VersusDMC49d ago

Me leaving it out should be telling of my thoughts on it. Better than 2 as a DMC game.

Still a good game though.

Exvalos48d ago

What a weird name, it's essentially devil may cry, devil may cry lol

Cacabunga48d ago

Best to good for me: 3, reboot, 1, 5

2 and 4 are trash, didnt like any of them.
5 has very good gameplay variety but i hated the foes.. it is just insects the whole time. Reboot has the best foes for me

Friendlygamer49d ago

3,1,4,5 to me, never played 2. 5 gameplay is amazing but level design was really disappointing to me, just a bunch of plain arenas, the story felt like a worse written rehash of the 3rd and the charater models looked weird ( specially the ladies ). Another problem with 5 was that there was not enough content for 3 charaters so I could never really familiarize with any of them

monkey60249d ago (Edited 49d ago )

2.
Dmc.
4.
5.
1.
3.

God DMC2 was an awful game.
And in case this isn't obvious it goes worst to best

Yui_Suzumiya49d ago

1 and DmC. The rest are unimportant.

DarXyde49d ago

Order changes depending on your focus. I tend to focus on gameplay/fun factor, so...

5, 3, 1, 4, 2.

I really didn't like 4 but commend Dante's weapon diversity. The retreading of old ground was pretty unacceptable to me.

But even then... Still more enjoyable than 2 for me

SeTTriP48d ago

This right here is my order as I thought DMC 5 was amazing and obviously 3 comes after 4 was great and 1 for the nastilgic value it holds 2 was so terrible that my local GameStop gave full refunds to people who returned it.
