MNN:
Investigative video blogger Tamaki from Unseen64 has been in contact with veteran developers from the critically acclaimed Retro Studios to find out why Nintendo decided to remove Super Metroid from the Metroid Prime Beta. The full game of the Super Nintendo classic Super Metroid was supposed to be added to the sci-fi shooter as an unlockable bonus. It was apparently removed as the developer used a third-party emulator to put Super Metroid into Metroid Prime. This is something Nintendo wasn’t happy about, so they ultimately had it removed.
Super Metroid was a monumental triumph of interactive art, a game that achieved new heights in presentation, level design, and pacing, and despite a few flaws, manages to hold up astoundingly well to this day.
"30 years after its launch, however, Super Metroid for the SNES remains the undisputed king of the franchise in terms of its atmosphere and tone. " - Ollie Reynolds | NintendoLife
Fusion did a great job at it. Really love that horror feel with metroid. I mean you are completely alone on alien planets filled with horrific monsters and toxic environments.
The 2024 Game Anniversaries include some major titles including Half-Life 2, Uncharted 2, and Minecraft.
So why no new 2D Metroid game in the past 11 years
Good question ............... waiting for 2D side scrolling anything to buy Wii U
Nintendo lives in a self feeding bubble that keeps them from understanding what gamers really want.
Nintendo was lucky with the Wii but if the NX is another failure they will most likely leave the home console market. IF the NX is even a home console at all.
