Project Cars Xbox One Physics Not "Dumbed Down" from PS4; Expect Over 150 Cars and Tracks

Project Cars has come under fire since release, though things are looking up for the gentleman racer. Slighty Mad Studios' Ian Bell explains that the Xbox One version isn't "dumbed down" from the other releases.

He also explains the firm's philosophy when it comes to cars and tracks, with the focus being on more tracks for players to enjoy.

So it's a contoller issue.
Funny that gamers are the ones to point this out. WTF are reviews and DF doing again?

I thought they were there to inform gamers on...oh who am I kidding. They're here to line their own pockets by any means.

WickedLester3265d ago

I have both the PS4 and the X1. I've long thought the X1 controller had more "dead zone" than the Dualshock 4.

Naga3265d ago

Whether that's true or not, I think precision genres like this absolutely necessitate the option of dead-zone customization.

mikeslemonade3264d ago

Xbox One controller is the best controller ever made.

solid_snake36563264d ago

@mikeslemonade And the moon is made out of cheese.

plut0nash3264d ago

It does, but the default controller setup is shocking bad. Also, PCars doesn't use the full range of the analog sticks. The best racing sim to use this was Race07, where you specified sensitivity for sectors of analog stick movement. Sometihng similar needs to happen in PCars.

Another game broken on release... what else is new.
Reviewers probably have been playing different games then the average gamer. They give away so many perfect review scores!

Another proof that, at this moment, review system is corrupt and broken.

PhucSeeker3265d ago (Edited 3265d ago )

Agree ! Nowadays, i'll just either take risk and buy the game or borrow it from friends. Even youtube can't help me make the decision.

Looked at Dark/Demon's souls gameplay video back in the day, didn't give those 2 shit. Then in 2013, i'd got to try them, instantly became my favorite series.

G20WLY3264d ago

^neiT720, the best option is to SharePlay the game. That way, someone from your friends list can 'lend' it to you and you don't need to arrange to pick up a physical copy from a friend. The last patch updated SharePlay to 60fps and it's an amazing feature.

I've written off one game and bought 3 games with mixed reviews after trying them out through SharePlay first! :)

OCEANGROWNKUSH3264d ago

how is the game broken because you havent updated your controller drivers, and or cant handle driving a sim racing game with realistic physics? i rest my case.

bleedsoe9mm3265d ago (Edited 3265d ago )

i wonder if people are playing with old controller drivers , having to update your controller is something new to people . besides who would buy this for xb1 with forza 6 coming in a couple of months .

mcstorm3265d ago

I did as I am a racing fan and wanted to try something out of Forza in terms of sim racing. for me it feels like GT5 did when it was released. I hope the new patch comes soon as its a good starting place for the ip but it dose feel unfinished and with the controller issues and frame drops it dose hurt the game a lot for me. That said I still think horizon 2 is the racer to beat so far this gen.

bleedsoe9mm3265d ago (Edited 3265d ago )

i bet half the xb1 controllers out there haven't been updated yet , its something weird that people have never had to do in the past , and ms isn't doing a great job getting the word out that it has to be done or you'll have problems.

@mcstorm agree about FH2 not only is it the best racer of this gen its one of my favorite racers of all time .

Bathyj3264d ago

So Xbox has controller patches? I didnt know this.

Wouldnt they be an automatic download so everyone is using the same thing? You wouldnt want to be releasing a game with a certain balance and half of the people are using different setting for deadzones or whatnot.

Benchm4rk3264d ago

@Bathyj

Nah they are not automatic. The controller has to be plugged in via usb and you have to manually select update controller in the system menu

Father__Merrin3265d ago

they would inform viewrs in thier reviews. but the stumbling block its on all platform? had it been ps4 only this game would be raped

plut0nash3264d ago

I reviewed PCars with wheel and controller and pointed out controller issues. Did notice many reviewers not mention that issue, though.

InTheZoneAC3265d ago

I can't even play this game on ps4 because it feels like every car is on crack, the slighest bit of acceleration or turning and I'm spinning out. And this even happens when doing 40mph.

I've never had this issue in all the racing games I've played since the snes, ranging from burnout, to nfs, to test drive, to gran turismo, to forza, project gotham, driveclub, gta, or whatever you can think of that has you driving a car.

The game looks great and sounds great, but the controller settings are whack and I'm not buying a steering wheel...

bestofthebest3265d ago

Google gtplanet project cars controller settings. Once you change the settings the game is more playable it makes a huge difference.

angelsx3265d ago

I'm same mate,it's unplayable for me on ps4 controler. The cars doesn't turn and stop at all.

hay3265d ago

The steering wheel is not going to help you cause it's close as bad without tuning the settings.

TKCMuzzer3265d ago

I use the wheel on the PS4, all I had to do was do the one time calibration in the settings and have no issues, the only time I come off is when I make errors myself by trying to push too hard.

hay3265d ago (Edited 3265d ago )

And those are great news for you, but it doesn't help those with different opinion.

craig2web3265d ago (Edited 3265d ago )

If you don't want to Google GT Planet for the controller settings, reviewer LittleByrdEee's review of the PS4 version of the game on Amazon has the correct controller settings. The default controller settings are seriously messed up. Changing the settings makes all the difference.

u4one3265d ago

its super hard playing a sim racer with a controller.. especially if you haven't configured it properly. Its much different with a wheel. With a wheel and the right config its fantastic.

you've never had an issue before because theres never been a console sim this accurate. if you were to drive a 600bhp car with the same ratio of throttle that you are getting out of your controller it would do the same thing in real life. mashing on the gas would send you into a spin... and you have to take corners at realistic speeds... like you wouldn't turn thru an intersection at 40-50mph in a real car. you would lose control. sims+wheels are key tho.

kingPoS3265d ago (Edited 3265d ago )

It's true. The last time I tried to use the ds3 in gt6, I spun out with a majority of my 600pp+ cars. Throttle response makes for a huge difference when transitioning from pedal to trigger. Sometimes it's even worse if you're never used a wheel.

Heh heh, driving in real life means more than just mashing on the pedal. You actually drive better in-game when you take that in account. lol

R.I.P. analog buttons, dito for the WiiU.

Gateway MT6706 2008

Maxor3264d ago

This isn't Drive Club. It's a real PC style racing sim that demands the proper setup. But even then, the devs shouldn't be releasing games on the PS4 if they're not going to spend enough time optimizing the gamepad controller for the casuals.

OCEANGROWNKUSH3264d ago

Im just laughing at these people complaining about the handling, ever play a sim racer before?

Bathyj3264d ago (Edited 3264d ago )

Did you play the first TOCA on PSOne. That game required fanatical attention. One tiny slip up at the end would through your whole race away.

InTheZoneAC3264d ago

why do people miss the part where I said I've played all the GT's with a controller and never has an issue spinning out?

From stock cars, to heavily modified cars, to race cars, I've beaten most of the games, gotten golds on all the licenses, and I have no issue CONTROLLING my cars. I don't just mash buttons and expect the car to grip like it's on rails.

With project cars, I can't even finesse my way to a clean lap. And you know there's an issue when you can't keep it straight at lower speeds. I don't have an issue driving in a straight line in real life at lower speeds, why is everything 100x more sensitive in this game?

IamTylerDurden13265d ago

It's funny how we have to put the caveat "it actually performs as well as the PS4 version" with the few multiplat xbone games where the dev was lazy and decided on "parody".

IamTylerDurden13265d ago

I've heard that the physics are "slightly" dumbed down on xbone as opposed to the mighty PS4 and PC.

TheCommentator3265d ago

I thought Tyler Durden used soap. You should wash that fanboy out of your mouth and read the article, but if that's too much to ask then you could always go away and beat yourself up instead.

It's an issue with the controller, btw.

TheXgamerLive3265d ago

I've heard "IamtylerTurden" is dumbed down, now see how that sounds when you don't know what your talking about?

fanboyism needs to go.

IamTylerDurden13265d ago

I've played both versions and i prefer the PS4 version with a DS4. Maybe it's my system but i find project cars to be more responsive on PS4/ds4.

WickedLester3265d ago

I actually find that to be the case with every game that I've compared on PS4/X1. As I stated above, the X1 controller feels like it has more "dead zone" than the Dualshock 4.

Why did EA Kill Project CARS?

This video explains why we think Electronic Arts didn't see a future in the sim racing title Project CARS and promptly cancelled the fourth instalment.

Jin_Sakai536d ago

After the last installment I’d say most hardcore fans left. It’s just not that good anymore so I can’t really blame EA this time.

masterfox536d ago

because it was always a project and it never got finished :D

ChubbyBlade534d ago

Every game is a project. Your joke doesn’t make sense

InUrFoxHole534d ago

It makes perfect sense. It's obviously a play on the title. Jesus christ you must be a blast at parties.

ApocalypseShadow535d ago (Edited 535d ago )

Ask Bullfrog or Black Box or Tiburon or Studio 33 or Criterion or any of the previously acquired developers who made racing games as competition, or as developers of EA games, then eventually dissolved into oblivion or reassigned. Just ask them. They'll tell you why.

ApocalypseShadow534d ago

Oh. I forgot. Even Code Masters were absorbed into Criterion. Another racing developer EA took over.

Every racing developer either absorbed by EA or eventually destroyed by them. They either kill competition or have them in the end make Need 4 Speed for them.

MadLad534d ago

EA only cancels projects for one reason.
They didn't see enough money in it.

Kombatologist534d ago (Edited 534d ago )

Not when it's because it didn't meet some crazy margin. It's like if something doesn't make EA a billion dollars on day one (I'm exaggerating that figure of course), they swiftly put it out to pasture.

SurgicalMenace534d ago (Edited 534d ago )

Much like if you're spending money on what's a bad investment for your desired goals, you'd do away with it, if you're wise. We should try to get away from thinking we know more about business than individuals that have been doing it for decades. Perhaps you could benefit from going into business instead of wasting all of your talents in comment sections. It's clear that you're the missing piece that EA's been looking for.

MadLad533d ago

I've made a good amount of money betting on underdog investments over the years.

EA sets unrealistic expectations of their more niche developers, yet continue to fund absolute blunders like DICE and the Battlefield series year after year.

dumahim534d ago

EA butted in and messed with the formula and act shocked when it doesn't work out.

Original Project CARS creator trying to re-hire EA team

Ian Bell, the founder of Slightly Mad Studios, is aiming to hire former Project CARS employees to work on his upcoming GTR Revival project.

Sgt_Slaughter538d ago

If it's just going to be another sim-cade that doesn't do either one correctly then no thanks.

Project CARS 2 was a step in the right direction but the physics still aren't where they should have been, so what did they do for PC3? Go completely arcade. That killed the franchise.

EA dropping Project CARS

From GI.biz: "EA is dropping Project CARS, GamesIndustry.biz can reveal.

The Slightly Mad Studios-developed series was launched in 2015, with EA confirming today that it has made the decision to "stop further development and investment" in the franchise.

The announcement was made internally and it's unclear at this stage to which extent staff could be affected. EA said that employees working on Project CARS will be moved into "suitable" roles "wherever [they] can.""

Terry_B540d ago

Typical for EA. They buy studios that created nice games..and are sooner or later destroying them and move the people to work on the old same 5+ EA series.

italiangamer540d ago

They will put the developers on the 1000th Need for Speed for the rest of their entire careers, just like Criterion.

SurgicalMenace540d ago

To be fair, it's not EAs fault it falls directly on the consumer. Everytime these companies choose to drop a series they're met with backlash though the gamers didn't support said series enough to justify its continuation. Attempting to paint every company as evil all because they're in it to succeed is ridiculous. They have to make money just like each of us typing in this section. If a job wasn't supporting you well you'd quit and find a new one, this is the same mentality concerning series.

TheColbertinator539d ago

@SurgicalMenace

No it is their fault. They don't listen to fans and burn the franchise to the ground by introducing elements that nobody wanted instead of increasing support for said respected franchises.

I order a steak, they make a steak. 1st sale
I order a steak again, they vomit on my steak and charge me more for it. No sale.

EA in a nutshell.

Tapani539d ago

@TheColbinator Well how do you think they make the billions then?

Their fans ARE buying their games. You are just not their focus group, and I can guarantee their customer insights team is more thorough and detailed in their reaearch than any N4G commentors’ opinion on the matter. Otherwise EA would not exist as a company, and they’d be bankrupt.

deleted540d ago

The one that still hurts the most though was Criterion w the Burnout series. Acquired Criterion's tech for their own existing IP, then shut em down. It's basically parasitic. I sure do miss Burnout's crash mode!

Hofstaderman539d ago

Sounds eerily similar to another large unnamed corporation hey. I believe some EA bigwigs shifted to that company back in the day, would explain the similarities.

rlow1539d ago

Must be talking about Sony

peppeaccardo540d ago

and instead they come out with that piece of shit of Need for Speed which looks like an Anna & Barbera cartoon. C'mon .... PC2 was my go to game for VR racing and the first one i played for tens of hours. i was so lookiing forward to PC4 after that failure of PC3 ... what a shame EA, they are bombing all the good games and stick to the garbage ones. EA when you think you have reached maximum of disappointment they top it off with style .... screw them!

SurgicalMenace540d ago

Need for Speed continues to sell so why would they get rid of what's producing what they need to maintain stability?

EazyC540d ago

What they did to this series was idiotic. The premise was great -- a sim/simcade game that GENUINELY got developed in line with its community. There is a huge gap in the market for this...I mean, PD hasn't listened to fans at all over the last year with regard to simple Gran Turismo 7 tweaks. Sim racing fans are screaming for a title where they actually give a shit about their users.

Project Cars 2 was genuinely on to something, it just needed some refinement. But instead they followed up by selling off to EA with a braindead GRID clone with Project Cars 3. Again...idiotic.

SurgicalMenace540d ago

Well since you're the authority on properly managing a million dollar company, why don't you just call them to let them know of your divine wisdom?

Hardcore sim racers are the ones who are competing acrossed the globe, no company in their right mind would focus on a forever moving casual market. They have to focus on those dedicated to supporting their efforts. Notice how you're speaking from a perspective of self opposed to the collective. Perhaps they sold out because they, like us, needed the money knowing that they could reinvest it into something new. PC was a decent racer but very few people mainlined it over GT or Forza.

EazyC539d ago

I'm not a divine authority but I notice a pattern where these huge corporations turn completely tone deaf of what the "average fan" wants.

vallencer539d ago

Hate to break it to you but project cars 3 was published by Bandai in 2020. EA didn't buy codemasters, which owned slightly mad studios, until 2021. Either way the sales were super poor for the game and it's not surprising EA would just drop the game. BUT it still sucks because it's one less sim racing game on the market. Especially because the first 2 were really good.

Tzuno540d ago

and focuses more on cartoon network games
