Xbox One Preview Update Adds 60fps GameDVR Recording

Another update is rolling out to some Xbox One Preview members right now which adds the ability to record 60 FPS gameplay directly with Game DVR. The Xbox One is the only console that offers built-in 60 FPS recording. You can take a look at the new smooth gameplay on the Xbox One website as many preview members are already posting clips to test out the feature. The ability to record at 60 FPS was a popular requested feature and it's great that they made it available so soon.

Wow that is pretty damn good! The quality of the DVR recordings were terrible before but now are so good that I don't feel the need to use my capture device.

60fps is pure joy.

It's a shame that the DVR doesn't capture voices like the PS4 one does. That's the real setback now.

@Septic I can't watch the videos right now, are you saying the quality is much improved in terms of compression artifacts and such, or it's the same but smoother?

I'm wondering if they're just brute-forcing the resource for 60fps, or if they are using a new method of encoding and compressing?

Yes, it'll look smooth on playback. If you have Firefox or Chrome (may be on other browsers now) YouTube displays 60FPS now so most YouTubers have videos up with 60FPS to select from on the video quality. Looks much better than the 30FPS videos.

No it will look like exactly what it is - 30fps. Practically all TVs and Monitors are at least 60Hz (displaying 60FPS) yet you still see the juddering of 24fps movies or 30fps games.

Simply put, recording 30fps footage at 60fps just means 2 identical frames are used to make up 60 framerate AKA same as watching 30fps. It can not look smoother as the extra frames do not exist.

OT: I suppose it's good for games that are 60fps, but the 720p recording is plain crap. The compression likely destroys fidelity too. Uncompressed 1080p/60fps footage can be as high as 1GB per 10 seconds footage.

Good update. Love how MS are making such steady progress evolving the system. I Hope they update the dvr recording quality to 1080p next so the footage doesn't look so downgraded compared to actual gameplay.

Yes, the Xperia Z3 a Sony device...

To my point, the capabilities of M$ and the XBOX ONE's software is stronger then what's available on the PS4.

The XBOX ONE's upcoming remote play and media streaming options are compatible with literally dozens of manufactures, and hundreds of devices not just Sony devices like the PS4.

I'm not sure why my OP was flagged as trolling. Everything I stated in that post was true. You will not see these features in their full state as they exists on XBOX ONE ever coming to the PS4.

I post facts that people of other systems just can't seem to except, but they are previously announced facts for sure. That's evident simply by looking at the amount of disagrees I get from information that's confirmed and is directly from any given company.

And what games on PS4 hit the magical 60fps? At least on XB1, Forza 5 and Killer Instinct are solid 60fps performers.

It is not a coincident that this update is release close to E3. DX12 anyone? For sure Forza 6 and Halo 5 will be 60fps and that is just the beginning folks.

Come on... it's a great feature and a welcome one, but stop trying to connect dots. Has nothing to do with DX12. It's not going to magically make everything 60fps like you're suggesting.

Very nice addition, and it's something my slightly older capture card doesn't allow me to do. I'm loving being in the preview program and asking for something and actually getting it shortly after.
Nice to see Microsoft step up and listen as well as deliver in a timely manner.
