1UP: Puzzle Quest: Galactrix Preview

1UP's brief hands-on time with Puzzle Quest: Galactrix revealed a decidedly more complex game than the original. Not only can the candy-colored hex-shaped gems flood in from any direction now (rather than simply falling from the top of the screen as in the original game, they instead spawn from whatever area of the board you're currently working in), but you can also stock up to three ships, each with their own unique combat skills and specialties (making for some welcome variety). The galaxy map is a sprawling spider web of solar systems, and -- though 1UP wasn't shown any explicit examples -- they were told that Galactrix will feature city-management mechanics similar to its predecessor, with plenty of assorted minigames tied to your home base's evolution.
