After unveiling three new Tekken 7 characters (actually one new characters and two returning ones) last weekend, Bandai Namco released a batch of beautiful 1080p screenshots of Josie Rizal, Jin and Devil Jin.

I cant see any next gen visuals on those screenshots..

same apply to MK X....

I was really excited to see how beautiful fighting games could look this generation because it's a fighting game. It only renders 2 characters on screen at once most of the time and it's all in an enclosed stage/area. They could make them look so detailed and beautiful with current console hardware, but instead, all these next gen fighting games look like absolute trash visually. It's far from the generational leap I expected from a genre tha could have benefited so much from the extra horsepower. It is sheer laziness on the developers' ends.

I know what you mean. I remember the first time I played Tekken Tag Tournament on PS2. I was amazed by the graphics! It was in a whole different league compared to Tekken 3 on PS1. It would have been nice to see another big leap in graphics for Tekken this gen, but it doesn't look like we're going to get it.

Fighting games are designed in a much different way than other types of games. They put their focus on fluidity of animations and frame rate and complex move sets. This gen so far I have seen a huge improvement on particle effects and other things to make it look visually stunning. Fighting games aren't about realism they are about fast paced fluid fighting action. These screenshots look very impressive to me.

Back in the day, fighter had both fluid animation and were visually impressive. In the past, Dead or Alive, Soul Calibur, and even Tekken have pushed visual boundaries while also having good animations. The character models in Dead or Alive 5 are exemplary for a last gen console. Some of the best there are and it also has some of the best and most fluid animations in the genre. Fighting games don't need to render much in terms of AI and environments and blah blah blah. Fighting games this gen should look much better than they do now, but they look underwhelming
