ESO Will Become Pay-To-Win? Take A Look At This Leaked Image

Skyrim Fansite writes: "A leaked image of a 50% experience boost potion has the Community wondering if ESO will become pay-to-win.

A few days ago, an Elder Scrolls Online player named Lionxoft shared a datamined image on the official forums. The leaked image shows an experience boost potion that grants a massive 50% Experience Point bonus for two hours. As it stands now, there is no potion or in-game item that comes even close to granting such a boost."

Life Long Elder Scrolls fan. For Long while i wanted bethesda to make an ES MMO Thinking how great it would be to have the ability to play with others, start and join factions with other pplm quest with friends, show off armors ect.

But all i want now is to play ES as it use to be how morrowind, oblivion, skyrim were..Gotta say zenimax/ bethesda messed up on eso big time and gave Elder Scrolls a black eye imo.

Feel Sorry for those whose first experience with any ES game was eso.

Have you played recently? the game has grown a lot since beta

GameNameFame3342d ago (Edited 3342d ago )

I've played it recently.Have to say, it got pretty good.

It has good production value and really good customization.

Anyone who didnt like it due to beta and launch issues, I think it is definitely worth a revisit.

Also, anyone who is raving about this. the article is about 50% experience potion for 2 hours. and you have to wait 7200 secs between potions.

2 hours is really isnt that bad, imo...

ESO is a good game. It is. But I am NOT a fan of paying $60 and then having a million microtransactions. They will push you towards subbing. In that case, they should just follow the DCUO model and make it f2p entirely. It will keep player count up, and they will make a ton of money off the 20% that sub and spend $100/month to play...like DCUO.

Lucreto3342d ago

Most of the microtransactions are cosmetic and are there if you want. There is nothing pay to win on it.

joab7773342d ago

I appologize. Wondering why I get all these dislikes. I hate the f2p model like DCUO. I prefer FF14. But I have a bad feeling about ESO that it will keep adding microtransactions. If it does, ot needs to go f2p entirely. Everytime I play a f2p game, I end up subbing anyway and then have to pay for inventory etc. anyway.

If ESO stays entirely cosmetic, then no issues here. But we will probably start seeing exp boosts, then something else.

No, I think f2p destroys games and communities if there is also a sub model. Thats all. DCUO is a great game but costs a fortune to play.

Apollosupreme3341d ago (Edited 3341d ago )

This was a money grab plain and simple. They outsourced and built a generic MMO with a ES paint job.

It makes sense for them to go pay to win now. They're not going be able to mend the fence with those fans who hate ESO, they've probably taken a hit on their bottom line and so they're in financial damage control...

Christopher3341d ago

XP gain potions are not Pay 2 Win. All you're doing is paying to advance faster, but advancing faster isn't winning. It's just a time saver.

If you don't understand that, then you should not be playing MMOs, IMHO.

All they really needed was es 6 with co-op!
That would have been so much simpler! Can you imagine skyrim with co-op?

Conkerkid113342d ago

Isn't it already pay-to-win? What do they offer subscribers over players who don't pay?

BellePelouse3342d ago (Edited 3342d ago )

10% xp boost and monthly crown(the real cash currency in game)
For now the best thing you buy is better mounts, anything else is purely aesthetic.

joab7773342d ago

Pay to win is a tricky term. To them, they offer nothing that gives you a direct advantage in PvP head to head.

But all of them offer extra experience, more inventory space, etc. They make it very inconvenient to play without a sub. And now, instead of just subbing there will be a ton of microtransactions also...like DCUO and SWtor.

FF14 has the best model. The game is like $10-$20 and 10-15/month to play. Thats it. They don't ask you for more money. Everyone is on equal footing. To me $10/month is fair, b/c you log a TON of hrs into these kinds of games. You will play it more in a week than you will 90% of all other genres. If ots not your rhing, it's not your thing.

warriorcase3342d ago

Its not pay to win. Its just cosmetic and continence stuff. Mounts, costumes, health potions etc. Not a real game changer at all

Volkama3342d ago (Edited 3342d ago )

Consumables are probably the worst things a f2p game can include imo. Bottomless well to toss money into.

MasterCornholio3342d ago

"f2p game can include Imo"

And when it isnt a FTP and costs 60€ to play it?

Thats when it gets really bad.

Volkama3342d ago (Edited 3342d ago )

Yes good point, I forgot it's still got a box price.

I'm relatively open-minded when it comes to monetisation of games and teso does have huge development and running costs to recoup, but consumables ruin games for me.

BellePelouse3342d ago

I play this game and personally i don't care if people want an xp boost let them have it.
Leveling up and questing is more than half the fun in this game for me, but if people want to get to the end game faster and pay for that, it doesn't change a thing for me.
