The life and death of Hideo Kojima’s Silent Hills, or the greatest game demo of all-time

Monotone Critic writes:

With recent news regarding Kojima no longer working with Konami, one can only worry about the fate of the Metal Gear Solid series in the hands of the publisher who kills off everything they touch.

My attention however is directed at Silent Hills, and what could potentially be the franchise’s second death, the first being its development being handed off to a different team following Silent Hill 2’s success as one of the greatest horror games of all-time.

Silent Hills needs to happen especially after the huge hype P.T made for it. Konami cant be dumb enough to let Kojima go without finishing this game.

Ratty3357d ago

You may be underestimating their stupidity.

breakpad3357d ago (Edited 3357d ago )

basically the PT demo has no big relation with Silent Hill (except maybe with SH4) ....so Kojima could easily made a completely new game exactly like PT (replicating the the good stuff) and change the name and IP ...the creator behind the IP has importance not the IP itself

Mikeyy3357d ago

Breakpad that's a good point! I never looked at it that way.

SaveFerris3357d ago

If Hideo Kojima does leave Konami, it will mean he won't be making Silent Hills, but there is nothing stopping him making an original game 'inspired' by P.T, huh?

He is likely bound by contract to support Konami and Metal Gear, but once that contract ends he can choose to, or not, sign on as a contractor to do Silent Hills I suppose. All we can do is wait and see.

I really don't know why Konami would remove his name from the box art even if KojiPro is dissolved. The game was made under that banner/studio. It almost seems spiteful.

Ratty3357d ago

PT didn't have much in common with the Silent Hill franchise to begin with. It could definitely work.

The box art thing is weird at best. His name was on the cover of every single game he worked on since MGS2. Even the games he was on simply as producer had "Produced by Hideo Kojima."

So why remove that now just because his studio was disbanded? I suppose I can understand why they took it off the MGSV cover (I guess) but why remove it from the older games that are already out?

Gatsu3357d ago

Oh please god...I hope Kojima and Del Toro still manage to do it somehow T___T... Would be the greatest horror game to ever come.

I need to see Kojima talk about all this shitty stuff that's been going on now. He can't put twitter pics etc, so we don't know what he thinks of all this. Maybe before E3 we see.

ziggurcat3357d ago (Edited 3357d ago )

i honestly think people are jumping the gun on this silent hills won't happen anymore thing.

there's been nothing stating that this game isn't happening.

They're gonna make it a next gen multiplayer silent hills game again and will be free to play. Of course im not hoping for that. But I really hate the fact that they used the face of an actor to be the protag. It just takes the sense of 'you' in a horror game.

Ratty3357d ago

I agree with you if they were going first person with the actual game but I see nothing wrong with it if they were planning on a third person view.

nidhogg3357d ago

I get your point. But think about it.. in the past silent hill games the protags were always these generic american faces that looked so neutral that they could be anyone. But anyway for me it's just not the same when a face of a celebrity is used. It's like i'm watching 'him' being attacked by those creatures and not 'me'.

SaveFerris3357d ago

They could even make it episodic, with DLC of course.

isa_scout3357d ago

Konami is right up there with Capcom as one of the most ignorant publishers/developers. Silent Hill and Resident Evil were the best horror games until they were both butchered. Kojima is Konami. I mean what the hell do they have without him? I know that the MGS series is created by hundreds of people but Kojima is the heart and soul of the series. How do they retain the wit, humor, and sillyness of the series? Kojima is one of the only developers that can write something serious and silly all in the same stroke. Phantom Pain will be the last MGS I buy if Kojima is not attached to it. As much as I love the series it just won't be the same without seeing Kojima productions in the opening credits.

Ratty3357d ago

They don't have anything left without him. MGS was the only thing bringing in any money for a while.

I'm guessing Kojima was an expensive employee and they thought Metal Gear would be more lucrative if they didn't have to pay for his expenses/decisions and just live off the IP.

Konami basically killed Metal Gear, Silent Hill, Castlevania and Suikoden. I guess you can throw in Zone of the Enders as well.

KimoNoir3357d ago

maybe all of this "kojima left konami" bullshit is another one of kojimas psyhological games that hes so good at

cyphertech3357d ago

Kojima seriously needs to speak up and clarify this.

Interesting that Konami is releasing nothing of note and still enjoying high profits. I guess this is the allure to companies.

VenomUK19d ago

It was probably due to the half-hearted release of the Metal Gear Solid Collection v1.

Imagine the extra sales Konami could’ve made if it had put some effort into it.

JL293018d ago (Edited 18d ago )

Half hearted? MGS: MC is the best collection of Metal Gear games you can get with tons of bonus content.

Why are you mad? Because they didn't make the games 4K so you can see the low resolution textures and warping better? Most of you cry babies never even touched the MSX Metal Gears.

SimpleDad19d ago

Of course, they rereleased MGS series on modern platforms. Thank You Mr. Kojima.

Since The Contra Revival Shows Konami Still Cares, How About A New Castlevania?

Hanzala from eXputer: "Contra: Operation Galuga is a classic revival done right, but why hasn't Konami done the same yet for the bigger and more popular Castlevania?"

shinoff218355d ago

Slowdown. Let them get these suikoden games done first. Alot of us are still waiting for those

XiNatsuDragnel55d ago

Castlevania fighting game for wii needs to be remade plz

Aphrodia55d ago

well, the new C ontra was made by Wayforward, who have been taking sooooo many of these classic franchises and making new iterations of them. Imo they aren't very good at it. And I don't see operation galuga being a large enough success to possibly give them Castlevania.
