The Speed Gamers Destroy Mario!

A popular gaming marathon group called "The Speed Gamers", are attempting a complete console run through of the Super Mario games this weekend. They are attempting to complete the 10 major console Mario games in under 48 hours! The marathon will consist of:

Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels
Super Mario Bros. 2
Super Mario Bros. 3
Super Mario World
Super Mario World: Yoshi's Island
Super Mario 64
Luigi's Mansion
Super Mario Sunshine
Super Mario Galaxy

All in under two days.

This is a marathon to raise publicity for later marathons by the group, such as a similar run through of the Metroid series, starting the 15th of next month, and raising money for St. Jude's Children's Cancer Research Hospital.

The group, who have been hosting regular game sessions to raise money for charity since March this year, will be airing this attempt live both on their official site (www.thespeedgamers), and on www.ustream.tv.
There will be live commentary, two chat rooms, and prize give aways after each game completed. So check it out and help the speed gamers raise awareness for their cause, and show people that gaming CAN help others.

Is Luigi's Mansion really a "Mario" game?

And what defines complete?

kevnb5775d ago

the link gives me a 404 error anyway.

Nitrowolf25775d ago

yes what do they mean by complete?
get all the stars and beat the game complete
or beat the last boss complete

ChampIDC5775d ago

By coompleting, they mean just beating the game. They use as many warps/shortcuts as possible. Plus, they're a pretty fun crew to just hang out with in the chat. They're working through Galaxy right now. Since the link doesn't work on this page, check out thespeedgamers.com to see their broadcast.

Well at least something good is coming from this.

bit of fun for a good cause. St Jude's is an excellent place to donate money to. I hope they make their goal.

Not with those D-pad controls

Needs more appreciation. I never had an N64 so this was what I played. Sure the Yoshi hat mechanic at first is a slog but you unlock Mario and the others for real and then it takes off. Personally I never had an issue with the controls. Can't forget the mini games and the 4 player rumble over download play.

Indeed, as stated in the article there were tonnes of control options and very much a 'take whatever you like, leave the rest' attitude to most of the game's extras.

My top 3 are Mario 3, Mario World and Mario 64. Mario Odyssey is also excellent, and I enjoyed Sunshine but didn't care for the Galaxy series.
