Sorry, no trophies for 1942 or Bionic Commando

The upcoming 1942 and Bionic Commando PSN games are not going to support trophies, according to a statement by Capcom PR Manager Tim Ng. Many speculated after a recent PlayStation.Blog post that the upcoming downloadable Bionic Commando title would support PS3's Achievement-esque Trophy system. Considering how popular they are for Super Stardust HD, we really hoped Capcom would've been able to add these shiny accomplishments into their games. Perhaps they'll reconsider for future titles down the line.

Not a big surprise. I really don't expect a ton of games to support trophies for probably a month or so. I wish more would, but this is where the issue is in adding something like this already into the life cycle of a console.

I believe eventually all games will, but anyone who is surprised that current games or games that will be released over the next month do not support it at least not right up front need to have reality check.

Nitrowolf25771d ago

ill agrree
i dont exspect much games to support trophies for a while.
i dont know if its been comfirmed or not but im hoping that soul calabur supports trophies.

hunter215771d ago

well said, couldnt agree with you more.

Pornlord5771d ago

I thought Sony mentioned that games for the next month or so would not have trophies (or were not required too) BUT they will start requiring developers add trophies in after that.

I'm not suprised by this either, Stardust is fun though. I really hope they patch at least a few games for me. I've got uncharted so that will be fun to dust off and kick around again. I still want MGS trophies at least though.

sonarus5771d ago

Soul calibur trophies will probably make it in as a patch at best. Sony should have gotten developers involved with the trophy concept long before they announced it

solidt125771d ago

It won't be til next year til all games have trophies. If it's a game deep into development that ships this year it probably won't have trophies.

PSN throphies will be just like the SixAxis are marketing move from Sony just to say, "Me too"... it will not be widely supported by developers because it's not a requirement... If sony wants developers to support this they will have to a) risk pissing them off by adding more to the development cycle and require it before the game can go gold or b) a la sixaxis 1-2 games will support it.

meepmoopmeep5771d ago (Edited 5771d ago )

yeah, like the Newton and Avatars?

if you did research, Sony is going to make it mandatory to have trophies in the future but won't push the devs that are too far in the dev cycle to add it or the past games, so no, it's not just a side-feature.

testerg355771d ago (Edited 5771d ago )

I think it won't be supported for now, but it will eventually. PS3 fans are expecting it now which is unreasonable considering Sony barely released the feature. Hell it took Sony 1.5 years and PS3 fans won't even give devs 1 week.

Pornlord5771d ago

I don't think most sony fans know that trophies exist yet. And the sony fans on this site already know that they won't be in the games coming in the month of July (because developers were not funded for trophies on the initial presentation)possible won't see full support until fall sometime. I agree with you comment however on it being unreasonable.

AllroundGamer5771d ago

"adding more to the development cycle" - yeah implementing trophies is soooo difficult, just making all the 2d trophy icons for one game must take like one day for one graphic designer :D and the detection is also difficult, for a programmer maybe 1-2 days to create a log/stats with the detection of things, that are connected to the trophies...

Snukadaman5771d ago

Trophys are all you droids have been talking about since this has been released....saying no one knows about trophys is a cop out as usual...

GiantEnemyCrab5771d ago (Edited 5771d ago )

So true man. These trophies are so ghetto and piece mealed together, another rip-off idea from Sony that has flop written all over it.

well i dont understand why... If Live can get Achievements then why cant the Devs use the same Achievements with different art or maybe the same art. This is kinda weird.

Fishy Fingers5771d ago (Edited 5771d ago )

Because Achievements would of been worked into the development cycle from day one, Trophy support on the other hand would not of been.

Overr8ed5771d ago

yea now makes more sense reading Stalking's Comment.

Once again. It's capcom. Stop expecting things.

fishd5771d ago

Capcom and trophy support????

AllroundGamer5771d ago

maybe Capcom should go exclusive with MS, since they are pretty much just pi$$ing off PS3 fans on purpose... personally i don't remember any Capcom game lately, that would make me play it till the end (Dead Rising, Lost Planet, DMC4) so the quality of their games went down a notch, and i'm probably not the only one, that has the same feeling...

nycredude5771d ago

Developers are seriously dropping the ball with their laziness regarding adding trophy support. I think done right it can add legs to older games and a boost in sales to old and new games alike.

kewlkat0075771d ago (Edited 5771d ago )

Developers support a lot themselves on the PSN, so they do what they want and when they want. Almost like they are not Obligated to, or they will get to it whenever..

All devs not created Equal. So you can't expect synchronization on PSN.

Some dev go the extra mile but TIME is MONEY.

Charmers5771d ago

Yes it is always developer "laziness" isn't it. Some would argue that perhaps it was Sony "laziness" that has brought this issue about. The trophies should have been THERE on launch day, but no you wait nearly 2 years for them then and all of a sudden you expect every developer to be supporting trophies. If you want to bash someone bash Sony for not having basic features in the console from day one.

nycredude5771d ago

I agree but they should still make time to add this in since it will benefit everyone involved..

@Charmers I am not bashing I am just saying that imo it would benefit the developers (higher sales) and consumers (better and longer lasting game) if they add it.

@StalkingSilence I hope they evaluate it and use SSHD as an example. That game clearly shows that it is worth it to add trophies. I am really looking forward to this game and trophies would be great!

Charmers5771d ago

@ nycredude it is unfair to expect developers to revisit games that came out before the trophy system was in place and rewrite the system into the games. I do not see why you would expect them too either, once a game is done it is done. You have every right to expect patches to fix games that have bugs and errors in them, but to expect them to have to rewrite a new feature in is grossly unfair.

I personally don't believe putting trophies in will make a great deal of difference to the sale of a game. Most that are interested in a game will already have bought it, you would have to be pretty lame to go "oh I will buy the game now because it has trophy support".

The same applies to games approaching completion or at an advanced stage of development. Now if you are willing to see your games delayed so they can work in trophy support then fair enough. However who wants to bet people would be moaning about games being delayed.

The thing about trophies is this, although the feature is now there it will take time for it to be widely adopted yet PS3 owners want it all down by yesterday. It can't be done so you blame the developers, when in reality you should be blaming Sony for this, they should have had this trophy system in place from DAY 1.
